When Down For Maintenance, The Rental Market Needs To Be Paused

After a spike of activity that caused rental card prices to skyrocket and the system to fail, one thing seems obvious to me: the rental market needs to be paused when the game is down.

I don't rent many cards from the market but I do supply the market with a sizable amount of supply.

When I was hanging out on the discord today, I started thinking about all the people who spent 100+ dec for a basic gold card on a one day rental who just lost that money and I felt bad. I also felt like it could sour their experience.

My other concern was that the momentum experienced as people bought everything they could to rank up before season end was probably going to die. And that sucks for me because I bought about $5 grand in cards yesterday knowing those prices wouldn't last but figuring the floor was going up.

What I didn't think about was that when all those listing expired, the market would be littered with thousands of cards people put up there when the rental market opened and left there.

Not only did I buy a lot of cards yesterday, but I spent hours delisting cards-especially painful as the system kept glitching under the pressure so the delisting took a very long time- and today when it came back up, I have a few hundred cards to relist but prices are cut in half from what the were pre frenzy and sometimes lower.

I'd have to imagine I'm not alone in that.

Now to be clear, I'm not upset that the system went down or even that I spent the money. I'm confident in my investment and I love this game and believe in the developers.

I just wanted to put forward a case for a system that I think favors both owners and renters that pauses the rental clock when the site goes down to avoid market shocks and to give people what they pay for.

Please leave a comment if you are on either side of the rental market (or both) and either agree or disagree. I'd love to hear opinions 😀

Also, I'm new to this blogging system but if there's some way to vote this up so more people see it, I think it's an important issue for all players, especially as the game is growing and evolving and will probably see more downtime in the future to keep up.

I agree with you and I'm sure many others do as well. When possible new players should be made to feel as comfortable as possible. Renting a card that can't be played with would leave a sour taste in anyones mouth.

Content creating tip: Always attach an image. Posts with images attached are more likely to be visited by those scanning the blog sites. Use more tags on your content. For example if posting about splinterlands some appropiate tags would be splinterlands / spt / gaming / games / hivegaming / battle.

Yeah, this is also why they need to hurry up and shorten that cooldown clock. So many people renting cards just to find out they can't use them.

Thank you for the content suggestions. I don't fully understand the tags. I thought I was just posting into the splinterlands community. I heard someone say I should always tag spt so I did that but I didn't know what would just be redundant.

As for images, I keep getting some kind of 400 error when I try to upload. Still trying to figure that out. I tried to change my profile pic too but nothing happened lol.

I'll get there :)

Your profile pic currenlty is the water summoner. Sometimes it takes a few minutes and a page refresh before its changed. Getting that error sucks. "Left Click" image / copy image link address / paste to topic will display an image. You can select from stored images on your device as well by clicking the highlighted link that says "selecting them" just under the blank template we type our content in.

Thank you for all the help and advice.
It's interesting that you can see my icon but I still can't. Even now after a few hours and having refreshed a few times, I still see the little faceless grey icon signifying I'm probably a bot lol.
