Bad, bad Wolf!
Well, I wouldn't say bad...I just don't use it that often! π For this week's Share you Battle challenge, a card whose artistic touch I like very much!
The Spineback Wolf is a card that has been around since Alpha edition! I remember using him frequently, but rarely nowadays. It was one of the cheapest Alpha and Beta cards a few months back, if I recall correctly; probably a sign I wasn't the only one not using him that much.
I think the main reason for the low usage is more for the better options on the death Splinter for 5 mana, than because of the stats. He does have some advantages on his side:
- Very fast, with 6 speed from level 1!
- Reach as base skill, gaining thorns at level 5
- Armor from level 1
One of the main problems for me... he's rather squishy, besides his speed: only 4 health until level 5, meaning a couple of magic attacks and the wolf is toasted! But in rulesets where speed matters, he can actually be quite useful! Especially in the back, where the high speed can help dodge sneak attacks, and the ones that do hit get some thorns back!
On to the battlefield! I used my alt account for this battle:
Rulesets:
- All monters have the divine shield ability
- All melee monsters have the sneak ability
This ia a great ruleset for the Spineback wolf, for the reasons already mentioned.
Strategy:
- Haunted Spirit as tank
- Haunted spider, to try and poison the opposite tank
- Phantasm, a very fast card too, that should be placed in second position, to serve as an offtank in case the main tank should fall - major screw up! π
- Spineback wolf in the back
- chicken as cannon fodder, to burn some sneak attacks
Both my melee monsters were very fast, and that would give me an edge here.
Given the ruleset, almost no monsters were harmed because of the divine shield ability.
In round two, however, the chicken had already died, which left the spineback wolf in the last position, and the thorns ability was already in action.
And in round 3, the high speed of the wolf proving usefull as well! Wolf kept dodging attacks, and the ones that hitted, lost health.
So miss after miss, the wolf was able to resist until round 6! Only with one health, but enough to leave the opponent with only 1 card left.
And even with my screw up in the line up... it was a victory! You can see the whole battle here!
What about you? Is the Spineback Wolf in your regular line up?
See you on the battlefield!

I like that wolf. It is almost always used when I play with death team.
Really? It's cool to see the different strategies; my wolf just growls for staying on the bench at every battle with the death splinter! π
Nice use of the wolf, he certainly did his bit!
