Men of War is possibly the best real-time strategy game based on World War II. This statement, in addition to being a good way to start an article, is true, although it has a "trap." The first trap is that with that "possibly" we can get into the equation "competition": Company of Heroes, Blitzkrieg and Sudden Strike. But fundamentally the trick of the affirmation is that there is not much else to choose from today.

After years in which we have been overwhelmed by RTS (Real Time Strategy) titles, we are experiencing a real drought of novelties. Company of Heroes stopped in 2015 with its weak expansion The British Forces, Blitzkrieg 3 did it in 2017, as did Sudden Strike 4. Since then the market for the many fans that the PC has of this genre has been a wasteland.

This circumstance would explain the decision of 1C Company to market a product like the one we are analyzing today: Men of War: Assault Squad 2 - War Chest Edition.

It is an action strategy game in a 3D environment over which we will control different types of military resources; from infantry, with riflemen, mortars or snipers, to a huge number of vehicles, from artillery jeeps, to the fearsome Katiusha, or Stalin organs. The diversity and fidelity in the representation of these vehicles is one of the favorable points of the saga.

Once in action, our objectives vary from stealth missions in which we control a single sniper, to massive battles with dozens of armored vehicles and hundreds of soldiers in which our participation is limited to a small part of the action.

Men of War reached the market in 2009 and since then it has been renewed and expanded through sequels and DLC among which the most important have been Assault Squad (2011) and Assault Squad 2 (2014). In the meantime we have enjoyed expansions centered on Vietnam or the Soviet perspective. Since 2014 the game has grown on the aforementioned Assault Squad 2, which have been added, such as DLC, expansions such as Iron Fist, Airborne and Ostfront Veteranen. These successive extensions have improved the game mechanics such as the veterancy of the units, the self-supply of the units and the DirectX 11 support.

War Chest offers us a pack with all this software, at a reduced price, including in addition to the remastered version of the original Men of War 2009 baptized as Originis.

Men of War: Assault Squad Origins is exactly the same game from 10 years ago reissued on DirectX 11 and on which all the improvements that have been added to the saga during this decade are applied. The first thing that will catch our attention is the multimedia section, where the DirectX11 allow transparency in water or vegetation, a better behavior of lighting, particles and a better rendering, which adds the remastering of all audio. More interesting are the improvements in the Artificial Intelligence of the troops, which can now replenish ammunition autonomously and improve their combat performance as they gain experience surviving mission after mission.

Do you want to sell us the same game again? Basically yes, which does not have to be negative. War Chest groups under the same title the best that the saga has launched so far and becomes an ideal option for anyone who does not know. It offers content for hundreds of hours of play in a player, in addition to allowing us to enter without limitation in any game against other players or cooperatives without fear of lacking any content. Different is the perspective of that player who already knows the saga and has some of these contents, for which this release is clearly not intended.
