Steemmonsters FOMO - Will the Alpha rush repeats?

I think it was exactly a year ago when Steemmonsters Alpha Edition packs sold out. There were only a max supply of 300,000 Alpha packs for sale and when it comes down to the last 100k packs, there was a mad rush to get them. People like @ngc and @themarkymark were buying thousands of packs at a time. It didn't take too long for the last 100k packs to sell out.

Today, we are seeing the same thing happening with Beta packs. Down to the last 100k packs and people are buying them in the hundreds. I don't think these Beta will last another month before they are sold out.

However, the situation is very much different compared to a year ago. Back then, Steem was probably at 90c or $1, so an Alpha pack only costs 2 Steem. But now, with Steem at 16c, a Beta pack will need up to 12 Steem. It is really difficult for Steemians to spend their hard earned Steem on Steemmonsters packs.

Let's take another look at the Alpha packs. There are still a few thousands unopened packs and some of them are selling at the steem-engine market, at 40 Steem each. That is 20x of what they had paid for (assuming they bought it at 2 steem per pack one year ago)!! Tell me, which crypto had a 20x gain in the past year?

Not just Alpha packs, Alpha cards had tremendous gains over the year too. I had this screenshot from a year ago when Alpha packs sold out.

Compare it to the price today.

Some cards saw their value rose 10x in just one year. Keep in mind, as Steem price plummets over the year, the Steem returns from these cards are many many times more!

It is hard to tell if Beta packs will achieve these godly returns in the future.

I think for Beta packs to be worth investing in, the game needs to attract many more players, at least 10x more. This was what happened to Alpha packs. When the time Alpha sold out, Battle hadn't even started yet. No one knows how the game will turn out. The stats and abilities of each card didn't make much sense too. We were just buying these cards for collection and hoping for the best. Fast forward a year to today, Steemmonsters had Battles, Tournaments, DECs, Guilds, and many more. The game is a huge success. Many new players joined, including some crypto whales. They added lots of value to the game and the market. Early investors like us saw huge gains in our Alpha cards. Great!

So is it worth to FOMO over Beta packs?

Yes, if you think the game can attract new playersss.
No, if you are buying with Steem. It's not worth to pay 12 Steem for a pack. You should buy them with fiat.
