Cycling Roam through Glendalough, Ireland

avatar

As weather forecast said it is going to be sunny day and both my wife and I were off so we decided to go in a small cycling trip, sort of exercise. We got prepared with food, coffee, water, hammock and went to "local" place.
What was great as well was that there were not that much people as it was work day.

At the end it turned out to be rather nice exercise.

Cycling to there was nice and easy. It is a bit up and down ride as the lake is in the hills, but we have some stamina as we go cycle every day to work.

After around 30km we decided to take a small break, drink our shake, some coffee, smoke and resume. We somehow always seem to be lucky when it comes to spots and finding places to rest. Like this one, we could just stay here for the whole day.

Next stop was Glendalough with it's lake, serenity and calmness. Beautiful nature!

We could get lost here any time, also, we will be sure to come here when my brother comes to IE. It wasn't that warm so we skipped the swimming part. We were swimming in our own sweat.

First ting we did was to drive around the lake to explore a bit. See the nature. We didn't need rest that much as we were resting 10km ago, and ride here is also slow and flat, no ups and downs.

Next stop was making our spot.

Hammock to trees, food in bowls, coffee in cups...eat, drink and chill. Swinging, almost fall asleep. We stayed there for around 2 hours. Serenity and indulgence.
If we could live nearby or have something like this next to our house.

After serenity we went to get something for desert, spent some time on some meadow with frisbee...like we didn't have enough exercise.

Small ride around second lake, few pictures and unfortunately time to go home. Some ruins of the monk town we saw on the way back. All good things must come to an end. So did this visit to the lake.

As for the part of going home...

It was rather nice ride, we did only one stop mid way through to replenish carbs and caffeine. Local places always have amazing things to taste. This was some pie with vanilla and caramel 😋

There was also this crazy dog that was following us for few kilometers.

That's wonderful, the pictures remind me of my trip back in 69, spent 3 days riding from the south most of the way up, good memories

80 Kilometers, it is beyond imagination for many ordinary people. Congrats and Appreciation. Is the cycle is some modern machine type or ordinary one just asking out of curiosity because I dont have any one trying to ride such a long journey in cycle.

A good post with such beautiful photos and some gifs like effects. The lake seems to be a perfect place for a break..

It is regular bike. Even hardtail that is harder to ride on the road. Thick wheels.

What a lovely day out with your wife. 81 Kilometers is not a short ride either but a decent distance. The ice creams look fantastic. More people should be doing what you guys are doing.

That dog must have liked you! :)

What an exercise! I have some stamina too but I would find such distance challenging. And you are even smiling on the last photo! :)

Looks like a great place and it must be easy to spend a day there. Or take your tent with you and spend a few days there.

Refreshment on days like these is very important and you seem to get it right :) No exercise without carbs! :)

Thank you for sharing and have a lovely day!

Yeah. It is great thing when you can eat sweets without regret.
I wouldn't mind building a house there to be honest. When you get sun like this you cherish it even more, at least here on island
