Splinterlands art contest | Karst Harpy
Good evening Aliens!
Today I want to present you my entry to @Splinterlands art contest this week for which I chose the Karst Harpy card, this time my decision to recreate this card is because I really like it aesthetically it seems brutal, but I had not dared to draw it because being honest the subject of painting feathers is not my forte or my favorite activity haha, I feel that the feathers are quite complicated for me, including the wings, but this time I took courage and decided to change the way of painting to maybe get a better result, I feel that I achieved it, because I really liked how the feathers look this time and I feel that this was due to the fact of using a different brush for all this drawing, it is a brush with an "oil" texture but if you detail well it looks more like a pastel texture, this brush is beautiful, I felt really comfortable working with it and of course I wanted to give that paint finish to the drawing, so I didn't worry too much about making it perfect or paint everything correctly on the lines of the sketch, something that was also a challenge for me, was the fact of not painting hair, since I'm super used to do long or short hair abundant in my illustrations, this time I had to replace that for this kind of feathers and I thought it was going to look horrible luckily, it wasn't, I hope you like this version of Karst Harpy as much as I did.
I started the sketch a few days ago and yesterday I started painting, this time I wanted to draw half of her body, simulating a pose where she is lying on her legs, honestly the sketch didn't convince me at all but it said the same thing I always say when something like this happens: "Trust the process" I started to apply the colors on the skin, this time choosing many shades of pink, a little bit of red on the lips and blue for the eyes, I added a new layer where I started to mix the colors to give a little bit softer texture to the skin, then I started to paint the clothes, starting with the feather bra and then I started to give it more shape adding lights and shadows to create the texture of the feathers, this was easy with this brush since I could modify the width and direction and it gave me very good results.
I continued painting the rest of the clothes and then the "hair" for which I painted with a very saturated orange on the sides and in the center with a pale pink, then I added some lights and shadows to the hair to give it a more realistic result, here it was more difficult the feathers but I did my best, I changed the background a tone that matched better with the drawing and then I started painting the wings, I applied a base pink and then I started adding darker pink to create the shadows.
Then I started to paint feathers with a lighter tone, and some orange details on the top of the wings, this time I didn't want to draw the diamonds that the original drawing has because I was afraid of ruining the wings, since I feel that these have been the most beautiful wings I have done hahaha, then I took care of the background, leaving this color that I had put but then I started to draw a sun behind her, using yellows, oranges and pinks I also painted on the bottom some small mountains.
I finished my drawing by adding some highlights on the face and then editing the image to increase the contrast and saturation a little bit.
Y aquí un Close up de la imagen para que puedan apreciar la textura tan bonita que quedo con este pincel, me gusto mucho la verdad, me encanta que se vea como si fuese pintura real.
And here is a close up of the image so you can appreciate the beautiful texture that was left with this brush, I really liked it, I love that it looks as if it were real paint.
