Larry Is Alive 13 April 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for saturday, the 13th day of April, 2024. Burnley manager Vincent Kompany began serving his one-game ban today as the Clarets hosted Brighton at Turf Moor. In that game, Burnley goalkeeper Muric allowed a simple backpass from his team-mate Sander Berge to roll under his heel into the net, thereby preventing his team, Burnley from securing a vital Premier League win over Brighton at Turf Moor.

Assistant coach Craig Bellamy said he won't blame the goaltender for the calamitous goal as everything was down to how the team played today. This is quite thoughtful of him.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Venezuela. He finds out that on this day in 2002, the military coup that had put businessman Pedro Carmona Estanga as interim president of Venezuela the day before crumbled, and Hugo Chávez was restored to the office the next morning.

From Venezuela, Larry goes to the world of golf. He finds out that on this day in 1997, Tiger Woods won the Masters Tournament, becoming the first African American golfer and the event's youngest winner.

From the world of golf, Larry goes to Russia. He finds out that on this day in 1963, Garry Kasparov, a Russian chess master who won the world championship in 1985, was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, U.S.S.R. [now Baku, Azerbaijan].

From Russia, Larry goes to France. He finds out that on this day in 1895, Alfred Dreyfus, a French lieutenant accused of selling military secrets to Germany and convicted in an irregular trial amid the backdrop of anti-Semitism, was imprisoned on Devils Island, off French Guiana.

From France, Larry goes to England. He finds out that on this day in 1771, Richard Trevithick was a British mechanical engineer and inventor who successfully harnessed high-pressure steam and built the world's first steam railway locomotive in 1803 was born in Illogan, Cornwall, England.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from the Russia. He finds out that on this day in 1964, Doku Umarov, a Chechen separatist and guerrilla leader, who declared himself Emir of the so-called Islamic Caucasus Emirate, which include the southwestern Russian republics of Dagestan, Chechnya, Ingushetiya, North Ossetia-Alaniya, Kabardino-Balkariya, and Karachayevo-Cherkesiya was born in Kharsenoy, Checheno-Ingushetia, U.S.S.R. [now in Chechnya, Russia]

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
