"Nyadran" in My Village, My Actifit Report Card: January 13 2024

Hello Guys, yeeey I'm back with my daily activity report featuring Actifit.

This day is very special because it coincides with the birthday of my hometown, my grandmother's village where I spent my childhood here with my grandmother. In Arabic, we call it Khaul, which means annual, and in the local language we call it Nyadran.

Maybe Javanese people are familiar with the term Nyadran, especially around Solo and Klaten, because there is indeed a tradition of Nyadran which is quite famous and even invites many tourists to watch the event. However, the nyadran event in my hometown is quite different, even around this area only my village is different. This is because the Nyadran event here involves all communities, both fathers, mothers and children. While in other areas Nyadran is only allowed to be done by men, without any women at all.

The nyadran event was filled with joint prayers in the cemetery area, with the aim of remembering the ancestors. Kali brought "Tenong", a kind of crock container to carry food that we filled with food ranging from snacks, pastries, wet cakes, drinks, and fruits. We will eat this meal together after the prayer is over. Unlike other regions, where in other areas the food brought is rice tumpeng with chicken ingkung, the food brought in our area has no special rules, as long as you are willing to hand over the food to others because the food brought will be randomized served to anyone.

The weather today was very sunny, where I woke up very early in the morning rushing to grandma's house with the children. When I arrived at my grandmother's house, my brother was waiting to walk together to the cemetery. Jaeak from grandma's house to eat about 1 km, although accessible by motorbike but most people prefer to walk together. When you arrive at the cemetery, you are very lucky because the view of Mount Merbabu, and Mount Telomoyo is very beautiful, so it can be entertainment while waiting for the event to start.

The prayer event lasted about 1 hour, and after the prayer was over, this was the most awaited moment because this was the time to get a surprise from the contents of Tenong that we would bury together. The tenong in front of me contains satay, rambutan fruit, bottled drinks, some wet food, and also packaged snacks for children. After eating, we went home by walking hand in hand again. I really enjoy this heart.
