Equal Opportunity Modifier In Focus

Equal Opportunity Modifier changes how targets are chosen in battle. Instead of hitting the front unit, attacks will always go to the unit with the lowest health. This simple rule changes many battles and makes correct lineup very important.
Because all attacks focus on the weakest unit, battles become more about which ones die first than what your enemy would do. Units that normally stay safe in the back are now in danger from the start. Players need to think about health and which unit would they be willing to sacrifice to avoid losing units too fast. Equal Opportunity Modifier can be tricky and dangerous if you had a mistake in your positioning.

Modifiers

Equal Opportunity - All units have Opportunity (targets the enemy unit with the least health).
- Equal Opportunity Modifier feels very punishing because low health units are never safe. This modifier forces players to think about health balance instead of just stacking damage. As a player, you need to calculate which units are you willing to let die so the other units that have better damage can survive.

5 Combos You Can Do with Equal Opportunity Modifier
| Modifier | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
![]() | Taunt | All enemy Units target this Unit (if they are able to). |
| - Taunt is a direct way to control Equal Opportunity Modifier. When a unit has Taunt, all attacks are forced to hit that unit instead of the lowest health unit. This allows you to protect low health units that would normally die early. A strong Taunt unit can soak many attacks and give your team time to deal damage. | ||
![]() | Resurgence | Self-resurrects once per battle with 100% health and armor. All magic debuffs are removed, and all magic buffs are reapplied. Skips turn. Deals 1 physical damage to all units. |
| - Resurgence works well in Equal Opportunity Modifier because revived units can be targeted again. When a unit dies and comes back with Resurgence, it often returns with enough health to take more hits. This can delay the enemy attacks and force them to spend more rounds killing the same unit. Even with the 1 damage applied to all units when the unit with Resurgence came back to health, the value of an extra body is still very high. | ||
![]() | Lookout | Adjacent Units receive 1 less damage from attackers with Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity. Additionally, all units take half damage from ambushes as long as a Lookout Unit is on your team. |
| - Lookout reduces damage taken from Opportunity attacks by 1. Since Equal Opportunity Modifier makes Opportunity attacks predictable, this reduction adds up quickly. Units with Lookout can stay alive longer as long as you make sure that the unit beside it has lower health than the unit with Lookout. This ability helps slow down how fast units die from the Opportunity attacks. | ||
![]() | Camouflage | This Unit cannot be directly targeted for attacks unless it's in the first position. |
| - Camouflage completely blocks targeting from Equal Opportunity Modifier. Even if the unit has the lowest health, it cannot be attacked at all. This is very strong for support units like those with Strengthen or Tank Heal that need to stay alive to provide value. Camouflage forces enemies to hit other units even if the lowest health unit is the one with Camouflage. | ||
![]() | Execute | If the target has 2 or less health after a successful attack, perform another attack against the same Unit. |
| - Execute fits naturally with Equal Opportunity Modifier because attacks are already focused on weak units. When a unit survives an attack with low health, Execute can trigger a second hit and finish the kill. This makes it easier for that unit to kill the enemy and trigger some abilities like Bloodlust. |
Battle Breakdown
Early Game:
I thought I would be losing this battle on set because the opponent have a stacked team on them. They have two Taunt units with also Repair and increased damage also from Prophet Rosa. I do have higher damage but my unit's health are overall way lower than theirs as well.
Mid Game:
They have higher health and better units but they just don't have the damage enough to deal with my units. I finally broke from the two Taunt units and will start dealing with the back row ignoring the new tank because of Opportunity.
Late Game:
The late game is as expected. I have higher damage so my team did a lot better. I also realized a mistake on my end where I put Yaba's Pickle at the back hoping it would defend Daarg Deadblast from Sneak, which he did, but I should've put Ulundin Overseer at the back instead. This way, my back is protected and from the front, since Yaba's Pickle and Daarg Deadblast has the same health, the Opportunity would target Yaba's Pickle first and Daarg Deadblast would live longer to deal more damage. Even so, it still didn't change the outcome of the battle but that's something I could improve upon next time.

Closing Thoughts
Equal Opportunity Modifier is all about targeting control and planning your units based on their health. Units with low health are always in danger and can die very fast if left unprotected. Abilities like Taunt, Camouflage and Lookout help manage this risk and slow down enemy kills. Understanding how attacks are chosen is the key to surviving and winning in this modifier.
