Melee Mayhem Modifier In Focus

avatar

Melee Mayhem Modifier allows all melee attack units to attack from any position which removes the usual restriction of attacking only from the front. Because of this, many units can become more useful in ways players do not normally see. Strong units with high damage can now be used without the need of abilities like Charge, Opportunity, Sneak or Reach. You can just pop them off and watch them create chaos in the battle. This Modifier often leads to lineups with more melee units because almost every unit on the field can deal melee damage.

Modifiers

Melee Mayhem - Melee attack Units can attack from any position.

  • Inspire is a major power up for units in this modifier. Since you will be using melee units, then this ability would increase the power of your melee units. Inspire can also stack making your units a lot stronger. If you stack multiple units, each melee unit can one to two shot units from the enemy side.

5 Combos You Can Do with Melee Mayhem Modifier

ModifierNameDescription
InspireGives all friendly Units +1 Melee attack
- Inspire is a major power up for units in this modifier. Since you will be using melee units, then this ability would increase the power of your melee units. Inspire can also stack making your units a lot stronger. If you stack multiple units, each melee unit can one to two shot units from the enemy side.
True StrikeThis Unit's attacks cannot miss
- True Strike is very useful in Melee Mayhem Modifier because melee attacks normally rely on accuracy and they can miss. When a unit has True Strike, its attacks cannot miss which makes its damage very consistent. In battles where many melee units are attacking every round, consistency becomes very important. A reliable attack each round can slowly kill the enemy team especially if the melee unit has high attack.
BloodlustEvery time it defeats an opponent, it gets +1 to all stats
- Bloodlust is a very scary ability in Melee Mayhem Modifier. Many Gladiator units have Bloodlust and normally they need abilities like Reach or Opportunity to attack from the back. With Melee Mayhem Modifier they can attack from any position even without those abilities. Once a unit gets a kill, it gains +1 to all stats which quickly makes it stronger and harder to stop. Since you can place these units with Bloodlust on a safer location, it would be harder for the enemies to stop your team.
ShieldReduced damage from Melee and Ranged attacks
- Shield is a very strong defensive ability in Melee Mayhem Modifier. Shield reduces damage from melee attacks and also from ranged attacks. Since most players will bring many melee units in this modifier, this ability becomes very important for survival. A tank with Shield can absorb a lot of melee damage and give the rest of the team time to fight back.
Relentless StrikeAttacks deal true damage. +1 damage if the target has Void, Shield or Forcefield.
- Relentless Strike works well in Melee Mayhem Modifier because many players expect high melee damage and will try to counter it with Shield or Forcefield. Relentless Strike deals true damage and also gains +1 damage if the target has Void, Shield or Forcefield. This means it ignores the protection from those abilities which normally reduces melee damage. Units that have this ability can break through their tanks much easier.

Battle Breakdown

Early Game:
30 mana is not a lot to make a full lineup of strong units. I am glad I have Elowen Sylphie as my archon because she can control units with a lot less mana and are still very useful. The Resurgence alone gives you an extra unit in theory and two of them gives you two extra free unit. If battle goes normally, you will always come on top.

Mid Game:
The big problem with the enemy lineup is that they only have one tank. When Dread Tafarian died, their back line is now exposed and lower health units from the back can be easily killed. Elowen Sylphie's lineup, on the other hand, is full of tanks. It's sometimes surprised me that all she can use are tank units but those are good in a lot of situation.

Late Game:
With the back line fully exposed, it is very easy for my team to clean up. It's a bit of a waste not being able to use Melee Mayhem modifier in my lineup because the lineup already has Charge on the units allowing my melee units to attack from any position similar to Melee Mayhem modifier. Still, it worked on my enemy's Ironwing Juggernaut so this looked like a fair battle in my opinion.

Closing Thoughts

Melee Mayhem Modifier shows how strong melee units can be when their position is no longer a problem. In my battle, the mana was only 30 so building a full lineup of strong units was not easy but Elowen Sylphie helped by making low mana units still very useful. My enemy only had one main tank and when Dread Tafarian died their back line became exposed which allowed my units to kill them one by one. My lineup already had Charge on many units so the Melee Mayhem Modifier did not change my strategy much. I could've explored more with other melee units but the mana really hindered me on this battle. Even though the Modifier did not fully change my plan, the difference in frontline made the result clear in the end.
