Spirit of the Game

Spirit of the Game

This is a short and unusual post from my end. This evening I was triggered by an event at the Splinterlands Maverick Discord. I visit there often but mostly observe and try to learn. As compared to many, I still consider myself relatively new to the game. This evening a well known player mentioned that there are a lot of battles happening in the Ranked battle, where a all gold account is battling against a singleton, and winning. Please see the example below:

I first didn't understand, as I never looked into Splinterlands related abuse. This is a shame as I like to deal with abuse at the hive blockchain level a lot. So the whole experience was quite edicational for me:

Me: pardon my ignorance, but what is the benefit of losing like that?

Maverick: You win extra DEC from the gold foil bonus - so instead of winning 100-200 dec, the earning is 300-350 dec

Me: so it is an understanding between two players, or worse two guilds?

Maverick: "understanding" is a nice way of putting it, but yes

Did you see! Someone actually called me 'nice'!! Made my day! So I did some research and put the 'list' of fixed matches together as above from a player from the Goat-Gang guild.

They said not to 'single out' a player, as many are involved. I said, we start from somewhere. Also 'singling out' doesn't bother me at all personally. This is such a low lying DEC farming scheme, and also not a game problem, but a 'social problem'. Mutiple guild leaders put together a basic list real quick! It is below:

image.png

I am no guild leader. I am just a player. But whoever, doing this, please don't do this. This is a social problem, and I am very good in dealing with social problems.

This is bad for the spirit of this game that we like; don't do it!

Actions

Disciplinary actions are now swift and not subtle. As far as I know some of the players responsible are already sacked from their respective guilds within minutes. Thanks for the swift response from the Splinterland discord support team and the Guild Leaders. I will keep a personal watch out for these accounts now :)

That is an amazing and meticulous find. And it was discovered only through your communication with Maverick? What a fateful conversation.

Curious, so a coordinated effort to gain more funds via losses is the problem. Am I correct? I want people to understand the problem before making statements of oppressive actions. We know how those conversations can happen.

Apparently, it is a long standing issue of match fixing. It is nothing new, happened in isolation or in a coordinated way for a while. Actually it is not me who brought this up. I just put a screenshot together, as the data is public. Most gamers don't post or interact in the hive blockchain much, so lots of others get away with it...

That’s very good to know. Thanks for communicating this info.

Thank you for helping protect the integrity of the game. How do they manage to get matched up against the friendly match fixers repeatedly...are there so few matches going on at the highest level? They could easily hide this better; plenty of ways to put a losing team out, beyond just the one monster demonstrated here.

it takes time; my image are the combination of 9 matches played over 2 hours time. There are multiple accounts involved, they get probably extra 200 DEC a game, they probably have an arrangment and the split it. It not much, but it adds up. They sell it all which adds to inflation and stakeholder like me pays the bill :)

Thanks a lot for exposing these people. Often, I feel too frustrated when losing to such farmers on gold. one of the players has been kicked out. What a shame, actually.

I didn't expose actually, there are multiple individuals who mentioned. I just did the research and published the post.

These players might not be on the blogging side so your post could be invisible to them. Are all those games in sequence? Surely not. If I was to play @jihnjibirt I would not field a weak team such as this.

Even of this have been 'sacked' they could still continue, but to what end?

Not just one player but quite a few, some are immediately booted from their respective guilds. Yes they don't post, but there are other ways to clamp down. SL team have been moderately successful in the past dealing with these kind of things.

Bottom line; key people now know and I trust the social aspects of the game. We will get’em :)

Thank you for taking the time to research and present this issue! I totally agree that this is against the spirit of the game. I think that the devs will need to implement some sort of mechanic to discourage this sort of behavior in the long run, so it is great to see the community taking a stand against it - if most of us don't realize there is a problem then it will never get fixed!

This is not a dev problem, this is social problem. We will fix it easily.

Appreciate you keeping a log of this. Great investigative work! Hopefully we won't see these type of activities again.

No thank you! I didn't even know this thing happens, didn't even know what it means. Thank you for educating me.

No prob! I'm not very vocal on things but it's hard to stand by when seeing such blatant abuse. I love the game and don't like the thought of individuals taking advantage of it or our community. We have great developers and great community members that stuck together for years. Abuse should definitely be handled accordingly. Another community member, @pogier made a post on this too, so now we have two references!

P.S. Appreciate the upvote. I'm not active on Hive anymore and my vote is not worth anything, but double thumbs up for your support and research on the matter.

I am not worried about vote :)

I know about you and know some of your team mates. They talk very highly off you. We all have our purpose, I am glad I get to meet you. I am active in the governance of the chain, and will plan to be here as long as the chain lasts.

Hello there, well I'm not saying you shouldn't downvote my posts, but if a well written posts ganers 97$ in reward and you feel it's rewarded and decide to take off 50$ to at least remain 47$ that's totally healthy and good. But when you zero it out, it would mean the post has no quality, no engagement and it was stolen. But that post you zeroed have over 20 comments, it was curated by khal and the Leo team, So is that totally fair?
You're protecting the chain and all that, that's fine, but I never got all my stake for free, I sold my 12k stake on steem to buy hive as well when the fork happened.

Folks you know here know me too, @abh12345 knows me to be a stand-up guy, I deligate my HP to newbies to support them, I constantly engage with and promote the chain from day one. So how am I toxic to the chain?
From way back when the fork was happening I was constant on talks with @theycallmedan and we were digging it out against Justin sun, even folks from the German communities like @lizamomadsoul knows me, even @acidyo wouldn't say I've been I've been guilty of any malicious intent in the past. I've been here and not a single malicious intent from me.

Like I said, you're a curator and all that, I appreciate what you do and laud them, please go on, but the downvotes becomes not worth it, of you zero a good post with lots of engagement. Even if you reduced it to $20 because you deem it overrewarded it's still okay.
I would ask you to take a recline and reconsider this and change the downvote to a more worthwhile one. Even if it was left with $10, it'll leave an impression that it's overrewarded and not because it was stolen whatsoever

Thank you for your comment.

However, this comment is unrelated to the current post. That being said, I have had detailed discussion with you regarding this in the past. I am glad you are aware of this so we are in agreement.

FYI, this is your current outstanding 7 day potential payout

I hope there is no further discussion on this subject. Have a good day. I appreciate if you don’t respond to this comment.

It's not the right place, no issues. In the past? Yes, nevertheless I'm only saying you should make this more fair, I'm not being dramatic whatsoever, I know how this things works I've never made a post or whined. This should count, when it becomes fair, you'll never have to see me talk about it here or anywhere else again.

This is an issue but I fear some of the real real big big guns do this since ages in a smarter (behind the curtains) way where you really can earn more, not mentioning names though until I can prove evidence of what I know with facts:-).
