Splinterlands Art Contest Week 274 - The Great Porcupine just wants a hug

avatar

It is a new week and another Splinterlands Art Contest is in motion and I thought of participating even if I am nowhere close to an artist. But I like to believe that I have a creative part and I try to showcase it through ingenuity and a little bit of help from AI, while keeping the creative line of thought on my side. And for today I thought to try to reimagine a great new character from the Rebellion's edition, the Great Porcupine. Why? Well, because even him needs a hug from time to time.

Character selection

The Great Porcupine surely has already attracted a lot of fans that are already making use of it in the Splinterlands battles. Pushed to the maximum he strikes with 3 Ranged Attack and makes use of the Close Range (Units with the Close Range ability can performed ranged attacks from the first position) and Thorns (When hit with a mallet attack, does 2 Melee damage back to the attacker) abilities. And the story built around it is pretty amazing.

The great porcupines of Praetoria can weigh up to 45 kilograms and measure up to 2.5 meters in length. They are most prevalent in the Great Plains of the Great Lowlands but can be found in any forest or grassland area with ample trees or vegetation to provide food and shelter. Great porcupines are omnivores, feeding on vegetation or launching their quills at their prey to incapacitate or kill them before feeding. They den and hunt in small family groups known as prickles.

Splinterlands - Great Porcupine Lore

Line of thought

I've started from the lore of The Great Porcupine and I went and made some additional documentation on it from the vast Internet like "A game character cartoonish realistic porcupine, large rodent with coats of sharp spines, or quills, that protect it against predation. He lives in wooded areas and can climb trees, where some species spend their entire lives. Porcupines' spiny protection keep his enemies at a distance" With this prompt I could than feed it to AI and get some variations by playing with the above words and adding few others.

Tools and methodology

With the presented line of though, I want on Lexica Art and played with different variations for the porcupine character. Some of the characters I could pick them up from my prompts and others I've searched on Lexica as similar. But don't worry as you can use any image you find on Lexica for personal use without any restrictions or copyright restrictions. So here are bellow the opted digital art pieces that I found to be inline with the majestic Great Porcupine.

The Great Porcupine character in the Splinterlands realm is a welcomed presence and I like that the team gets inspired from the animal world. I believe that there are so many animals with amazing abilities, defense and attacking skills that simply elevates this game while keeping it borderline between the real and the fantasy and magic world. Hopefully this line will continue in the future and we'll see more surprises like this one.

Will you rise with the Rebellion?

If not, you still have a chance on it, come and join Splinterlands!
