Sticks and stones may break my bones but none of your arrows shall harm me. ๐Ÿน๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿ‰

Dragons. Mythical, powerful, and fearsome beings of immense power with a fondness for hoarding treasure. As a child growing up, I've read countless tales of Knights in shining armor on their quests to save the Damsel in distress, usually from a terrible Dragon holding her captive. Whilst the hero of the story prevails more often than not, the story always makes known the fact that countless numbers before have tried and failed, their bones usually littering the treasure filled cave amongst the Dragon's hoard. โ˜ ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฐ

The theme for this week's challenge is a mythical creature of myth and legend. I present to you - DRAGONS ! ๐Ÿน๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿ‰

cue Game of Thrones theme song... raging fires from dragon's breath ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Ok, not quite that kind of Dragon, but the Dragon summoner class and their associated summons (which also includes their fair share of dragons of course). To be more specific though, the Legendary Chaos Legion Dragon Summoner - QUIX THE DEVIOUS ๐Ÿน๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿ‰

Quix had wandered the chaos realm for so long, heโ€™d almost forgotten where his life had begun. Most of the memories only came to him in dreams now, flashes of images that were hard to connect and make any sense of. It was only when he came upon the Ravaged Void and rested by its black well that something stirred within him. It prompted a deep hunger for mana and he became obsessed with magic. Not only that, but the images he saw in his dreams became clearer and he witnessed great dragons. Some of them were native to the realm of chaos and some looked completely alien. Their nature appealed to him and demanded his attention, and so he remained by the void where over time his power grew, the vast emptiness filling him with potent energy.

Now, the Dragon splinter is probably my favourite among all the splinters. I find that they're the most flexible splinter, being able to employ cards from the Dragon splinter AND one other splinter. Think of this like an added advantage of CHOICE VS your opponent if he/she chooses only to pick cards from 1 normal splinter!

Quix the Devious is a Legendary card released during the Chaos Legion expansion. It has definitely found it's place in many Dragon decks given its availability and usefulness. It's effects on the battlefield are ๐Ÿน-1 RANGED ATTACK๐Ÿน to all opponents and ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿป+1 SPEED๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿป to all your units. It's summoning cost is, like all other Chaos Legion Summoners, 4 ๐ŸงชMANA๐Ÿงช.

Quix the Devious_lv1.png

The release of Chaos Legion gave the Dragon splinter another Summoner in the form of Quix the Devious. Now this is an amazing card which effectively combines Contessa L'ament together with Pyre from the Death and Fire Splinters respectively. Imagine the abilities of 2 summoners combined into 1, which only costs 1 more mana! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Quix becomes a supercharged version of the both of them, and what's better still is that as a Dragon Summoner, he has the added bonus of being able to pick cards from TWO splinters! This is definitely what I'd consider game changing! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

๐Ÿ“ŠCard Stats by Level๐Ÿ“Š

stats quix.png

As a summoner, his stat growth is pretty much as standard as they come along. The higher the level of your summoner, the higher the level of Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary cards can be fielded. Of course, this is also subject to the limits of the League you play in. At the Diamond and Champions League levels, the full power of a maxed level Summoner can be unleashed with no limits! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

๐Ÿ“Important Rulesets Rundown๐Ÿ“

Here, I detail the list of combat rulesets that may affect my choice of team (which is, in this battle scenario, going to be an even mix of Melee, Magic and Ranged) when I use Quix the Devious as my Dragon Summoner choice.

Quix the Devious
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Attacks will never miss
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Gives units more protection.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Units lose all their abilities. But that doesn't really affect Quix's abilities on the battlefield.
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Ranged units can't be used.
N.A. Ranged units can attack from the front.
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Units with no flying will die.
N.A
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Units can attack from anywhere
N.A. Even summoning cost
N.A. Blast damage
N.A
N.A
Situational. Could add more damage if the opponent's front unit is stunned
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Improve units survivability
N.A. Melee units are affected.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Costs 4 or less mana
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Doesn't affect summoners
N.A. Magic units cannot be used
N.A. Gives melee the positional attack advantage enjoyed by ranged/magic
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Will die to poison.
N.A. Odd summoning cost
N.A. Slow units become fast
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Doesn't affect Summoners
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Strips all Summoner abilities
N.A.
N.A
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป All abilities stay intact
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Allows melee to attack even if it's not in the first slot.
๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป It is NOT a Neutral unit.
N.A. All ranged/magic units have the Snipe ability.
N.A. Loses all armor.
๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿป Only Melee units can be used. Would make one half of Quix's ability redundant.
N.A.

โš”๏ธ๐Ÿ›กMy Battle Showcase๐Ÿ›กโš”๏ธ

Let me present a battle I fought recently in which I used Quix the Devious. My opponent used General Sloan from the LIFE splinter as his main pick, while I also used the WATER splinter together with a DRAGON splinter card.

At first glance, it would seem like my opponent had an advantage.

  • His Common cards were all at level 4 whilst mine were only at level 1 or 3.

  • His Rare cards were all at level 3 whilst mine was only at level 2.

It wasn't game breaking and I wasn't overwhelmingly outmatched, but I was at a disadvantage across the board nonetheless. Would I be able to turn the tide of battle against such an opponent then? Victory or defeat would lie in the small details.

I would say that the Quix the Devious was DEFINITELY the MVP of this match, having played it's role in turning the tide of battle. I went for a high speed strategy, with Quix and the Creeping Ooze debuffing the opponent with a total of -2 speed. The entire team ended up being debuffed to the minimum of 1 speed which would provide my team with some dodge protection. His choice of Sloan with it's +1 ranged attack meant that a good portion of his team was Ranged. This played into Quix's hands perfectly with his anti ranged ability negating the opponent and the extra speed meant I had an extra ability advantage over my opponent. All these small bits would help turn the tide of battle in my favour, thus ensuring that the other units could eventually wear down the opponent until victory was achieved! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†

1st CARD SLOT

Djinn Chwala chosen to fill this slot as the Main Tank. It's armour and health makes it a superb tanking unit whilst also doing decent damage to boot. It's Thorns ability also further brings down melee units who manage to land a hit on him.

2nd CARD SLOT

Flying Squid takes up the second slot. It is a tank on it's own right and will serve as a backup tank should Chwala go down. It also deals decent damage and has the Reach ability which allows it to deal damage from the second position.

3rd CARD SLOT

Furious Chicken fills this slot. It's role is simply to absorb 1 hit during the actual battle. It can serve as a last ditch cannon fodder tank or a Snipe/Opportunity magnet. At 0 mana cost, it's an obvious choice to use to fill up any available slots.

4th CARD SLOT

Creeping Ooze is chosen to fill this slot for it's Speed debuffing ability. It can serve as a last ditch cannon fodder tank or a Snipe/Opportunity magnet.

5th CARD SLOT

Venari Wavesmith occupies the 5th slot. It gives the team extra protection with a +2 armor buff. It sits here in this slot to give itself some protection and also deals some magic damage.

6th CARD SLOT

Axemaster sits right behind as the main DPS of the team. It's Double Strike ability allows it to deal a massive 4 damage per turn. With it's high speed and the speed debuffs provided by the team, it can safely sit right behind to tank any sneak attacks.

โš”๏ธ๐Ÿ›กBattle Action Report๐Ÿ›กโš”๏ธ

SYB Dragons Quix Ranged.gif

As you can see, both of us fielded very different decks from different splinters. ๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿป LIFE ๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿป VS ๐Ÿ‰ DRAGON ๐Ÿ‰/๐ŸŒŠ WATER ๐ŸŒŠ

My opponent used the Pelacor Conjurer as his tank in the first slot and the Disintegrator as his backup tank in the second. Both of which were VERY good choices. The Conjurer has Flying and Reflect Magic along with a decent HP pool, whilst the Disintegrator has Demoralize with good tanking stats too. His Stitch Leech and Celestial Harpy were lined up in the 3rd and 4th slots as the sneak/opportunity DPS-ers. The Pelacor Arbalest and Prismologist were his dangerous main Ranged DPS in the 5th and 6th slots which rounded off the rest of his team.

My choice of the Main Tank was the Djinn Chwala in the first slot, followed by the Flying Squid in the second. The Chicken would be my backup tank or snipe tank, as was the Creeping Ooze too. The 5th, and 6th slots were occupied by the Venari Wavesmith and Axemaster respectively.

The battle started out with all our units just duking it out pound for pound with the Main Tanks taking the bulk of the damage.

  • The opponent's Stitch Leech and Celestial Harpy would have been quite devastating in normal circumstances. However, the armor buff from my Wavesmith ensured that their initial attacks would be negated.

  • The opponent's Pelacor Arbalest and Prismologist would have had slaughtered any team ordinarily with the raw firepower they wielded, which was further boosted by General Sloan's ability. Thankfully, Quix countered them perfectly and the armor also negated their initial burst of damage.

  • My entire team's damage was focused on the 1st unit instead of being all spread out with abilities like snipe/sneak/opportunity. This ensured that the opponent's tanks went down with deadly efficiency.

  • All of these added up resulting in the opponent's units being taken out with a razor like focus, such that by the time my main tank got taken out, his entire team was dead.

Talk about doing WAY MORE than it was supposed to!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿฅณ All i expected was for Quix to possibly provide some support benefits to my team. However it ended up being a perfect counter against my opponent.

Well as you can see here in this GIF of my battle, the results were pretty good! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

This was truly an eye opener! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ†

Slowly, but surely, I wore down the opponent's team and the match was won handily with 5 of my units still left standing. My team selection proved to be the edge I needed to eventually overpower my opponent. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ”ฎHindsight is 20/20๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ”ฎ๐Ÿ”ฎ

Would I have done anything differently? ๐Ÿค” This might have seemed like a disadvantage at the start but I ended up winning handily. IF I had to use the same cards again, there would be no better lineup than what I had already used for the match. Any other combination MIGHT have resulted in a loss for me. I'm really satisfied with the results against such a worthy opponent. ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅ‡

Quix the Devious.png

I definitely can appreciate Quix the Devious and it's strengths. This is one of those cards which are very strong if surrounded with the proper team. The role it brings to the battlefield will give a player the edge in squeezing out every tiny advantage to get the win. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

For any players looking to try out Quix the Devious, I hope this article has given you some insight into its potential. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Great selection of cards dude, I use Axemaster all of the time if I can! His speed often makes the difference.

Axemaster is one of my favourite Water Splinter cards too. A pity I wasn't playing yet when it was first minted. It is so much more expensive now. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Thank you.

Most of my cards are actually rented. But ever since I started a few months ago, I've been seeing quite a bit of progress.

Slow and steady is the way.
