On the Fence

After the craziness that is the start of the season died down a bit I have been able to advance pretty steadily and I find myself bouncing in and out of the Diamond III tier and Gold I. There was a brief moment that I made it pretty close to Dimaond II, but I thought better of it and started losing some battles to get myself back down to Gold.

As the title states, with right around one day left in the season, I am totally on the fence about where I want to end up. These new focus points have really thrown my plans into chaos. Being honest, I haven't really seen any better rewards than I was getting before. Sure, I think I pulled a Gold Foil card yesterday and I have pulled one regular legendary, but beyond that, my rewards have been pretty similar to what they were in the past system.

Basically, pretty unimpressive.

Maybe it is because I am getting so few chest in each focus. I think the highest number of chests I have gotten so far in a daily quest was five. Typically, it has been closer to three or four.

After talking with some people, I really feel like I belong in the Gold tier based on the level of my cards (most specifically summoners). It makes me wonder if I am really playing "above my pay grade" in the Diamond league. I can make it in Diamond, but do I really belong there?

I will be the first to admit, I am pretty horrible at the strategy part of the game. Right when I think I have the perfect team created, I get totally decimated. I can just never seem to figure out the right cards to play during the right rulesets.

I feel like I need some kind of cheatsheat that says if the rules are x, you should play this splinter and these cards. I have at least one of pretty much all the cards, so it's not like my deck is incomplete (except for some summoners that I stupidly sold before the big pump).

That is beside the point though.

The real issue is this:

Do I finish this season in Diamond and take the chance of getting fewer diamond chests next season or finish this season in Gold and maybe have the opportunity to earn more gold chests next season?

It's a tough call. If I could be guarnateed that the prizes in those Dimamond chests were going to be better than the ones in the Gold chests then I might be tempted. I have a friend on Splinterlands that is getting better drops from his bronze chests than I am from my diamond ones. Of course, he is getting two to three times per chests per focus as I am.

That could definitely be a factor.

I've got about 24 hours to figure it out...

What are you plans. Are you still trying to advance as far as you can this season or are you playing the odds to maybe give yourself a better chance of earning rewards next season?

I am sitting at 46 season chests right now. My goal is to maybe get that number to 50 and then decide what I am going to do. I will hopefully have enough time to drop myself down if that is the way I end up falling.

What do you think?

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure your next season chests are based on your highest achieved league this season (unless this changed recently?) but this means even if only played 1 battle in diamond, you are going to get diamond chests next season.

So far the only way to go back to gold chests for you would be to spend a full season in gold... i think.

Oh really? I was under the impression it worked the same way the last one did. I figured it was based on where you ended the season now how high you achieved. I know they made that change not too long ago, so I figured it just carried over.

Yeah, I'm 90% sure @neong is right... if you moved into Diamond, but then lose a game or two and drop into gold at EOS, you'll be playing for diamond chests next season.

I've been checking out a number of people's blogs and videos re season chests... and I'm thinking the sweet spot is actually playing in bronze (with gold level cards). The accounts that are being experimented with are making 20+ (bronze) focus chests per day playing just 30min per day. I'm playing in gold, and have to play down to 85% ECR TWICE per focus session just to get 5-7 gold chests... and from what I'm seeing, those 20-30 bronze chests are kicking my 5-7 gold chests' ass BY FAR :-(

... hmmm... Gonna give it 1 more season, and then I'm gonna start a second account switching cards between them each season... playing an account up to gold, and then ignoring it for a season and letting it finish in bronze, and then switch back.

Choices, Choices :P

Ah, that sucks. I guess I am stuck here for at least one more season. I am thinking that playing in the silver or gold tier might be the best bet for me. I know that people who are getting bronze chests are doing well just because they are getting so many of them. I expect they will adjust that in time. Sounds like you have a good plan setup in the meantime. I used to have multiple accounts and it got to be too much of a pain shuffling stuff all the time. I just don't have the time for that these days.

Yeah... I got rid of all my alts too: Just the 1 for me, 1 for my wife and another with the "spares" that mucks about in low bronze that we take turns playing for fun when we've run out ECR :P

Every time Splinterlands makes a big change it takes a season or 3 for things to settle down... so I'm not gonna do anything drastic... YET ;-)

There's always plan C: Just keep on playing for fun 🥳🥳🥳

I have been trying to keep my ECR in the high 60 to low 70 range. It has been a struggle though. I would like to keep it higher, but I need those chests!

I'm in the same boat (but bronze-silver kind of boat). I was eager to jump to silver, and realized I might have an hard time getting chests next season.
Anyway, we will have to see next season what is better: fewer better chests or more chests of lower quality...

Right now it is looking like more chests of lesser quality is the way to go!

Yeah, but it works only one season. And the following one, chests will be harder.
If one doesn't climb leagues, it shouldn't be much impressive earnings: my big rented card for Collection Power expired between 2 games. I didn't pay attention before the match, but it made me go from Silver 3 to Bronze 1. My Rshares went from 3000 to 1200. Same rating, just 1 minute between games.
So if someone stays in Bronze just to farm bronze chests, he won't make much actually. It's really the climbing that pays out, I think, and that will not last.

What if you hit your limit at the top? Does that mean I should expect even worse rewards?

I hope not! Hopefully it has been correctly balanced!
For me this season, I made at 3500 Rshares per win. So the first win brings 4-5 bronze chests and I finish the day with 15-20.
Next season, that 3500 Rshares per win will brings me way less silver chests, but I hope that the quality will make up for the quantity... I hope!
I guess we can only wait and see

Yes the announcement shows if you ever pressed the advance button that is the league you will be in next season for chest rewards.

For example, if a player reached Diamond league at any point in the previous season (meaning they achieved both the required rating and collection power and chose to advance to that league) then in the current season they will earn Diamond loot chests no matter what league they are currently playing in.

I find it best to be the top of the league than in the bottom of the next one up. I average 9 silver chest per day in the daily focus at Silver 1.

So they changed it back. That is interesting. I guess next season I will just need to be careful and not click the button like I did this season.

Good luck with your decision! It sounds like Diamond chests are not the place to be!

There seems to be a lot of changes this season that everyone is getting used to. Thanks for sharing.

I wish I could be of some help, but unfortunately this is something I have not played since the old days. Best of luck with the rest of the season!

We are in a similar situation. I might get to Diamond II, but the battles are tough at this level. I was about to post with my own thoughts.

The mechanics of the new system are so complex. It's taken three different people to explain it to me and I am still learning new things about it.

I'm just playing I can't even keep up with all the changes.

If you are not planning to move higher up to diamond 2 or diamond 1, then you should consider to stay in gold league all the way. The daily chest requirement is more suitable to farm as compare to the diamond chest.

That's what I am thinking.
