Splinterlands — PIZZA 4 Brawl report

The Calzones had a rough fourth place finish last Brawl, but we only had 54 battles for the last Brawl. This time around I had higher hopes as we were entered into 70 total battles. Six of those 70 battles were on my schedule.

Thaddius v Thaddius — With no abilities I opted for two of my highest health cards up front with a mix of heavy hitting magic and ranged attackers in the back. Fortunately for my my team hit harder and sliced through my opponent. Win (1—0)

Kelya v Obsidian — I always worry when I see one of my Kelya lineups against a magic heavy team, especially lead by Obsidian. Kelya has a lot of strength in armor, which magic passes right by Loss (1—1)

Sloan v Jacek — My first Brawl battle pitted against Jacek. I'm not sold on Jacek because the scattershot ability can lead to a win or a loss like happened for my opponent here.Win (2—1)

Kelya v Kelya — It isn't often I end up not losing a card, but it helped I had a level four Kelya going against a level 1. Isgold is such a great card when it can get going. Win (3—1)

Tarsa v Tarsa — I was concerned when I saw my opponent had the higher level Tarsa, but I felt good seeing Chimney lined up. My opponent had the better positioning and I was crushed. Loss (3—2)

Tarsa v Tarsa — Another Tarsa battle with me a lower level. I need to get my Tarsa up to level four! I was done in by my favorite combo, why didn't I use Grum and Chimney 🤷‍♂ Loss (3—3)

🤷‍♂🤷‍♂ 3—3. Batted .500 this Brawl. Faced some different lineups and played some unusual ones myself. It will be interesting to see how the new Riftwatcher cards start to play a role in the Brawls. 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂

I fared a bit worse, but the good news is the Guild performed a bit better and we placed third. Third place rewarded enough merits for me to buy another Gladius case. The addition of Merits to the daily chest seems to help accumulate 2000 Merits much more quickly. It isn't always fun seeing Merits show up in a daily, but it sure is fun opening a Gladius case.

Relenor Cleaver is a new one for me and looks to be a fun addition. I'm think it will work well behind Diemonshark. One more Alva and Gobson and I'll be able to level them up. I wish there was a way besides Brawls to at least practice with the Gladius cards as I feel I don't yet have a great grasp on the best synergies and strategies for using them. It will come with time, but it would be fun to be able to test them out in other situations.
