Walk the Thorny path! SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! CURSED WINDEKU !

Hello everybody! Happy new year and I hope 2023 will be an amazing year!

Today's spotlights will be on Cursed Windeku, a rare monster from the Chaos Legion Death expansion and the theme for this Share Your Battle Weekly Challenge!
Besides Dragons, Death is truly great on the lower league and does have some quality monsters that can easily wins you multiple battles including our today's guest:

Let's take a look into Cursed Windeku stats and Abilities:

  • Tankiness: 10 Health is decent for the Tank Position but the lack of Armor and other resistances like Void or Shield makes it vulnerable compared to other popular tanks.
  • 2-3 Melee Damage is decent for the 1st position coupled with a decent Speed at 3
  • Thorns is bae, incficting 2 damage (3 if Amplify) to melee monsters attackers makes you win a lot of battles just because enemy monsters suicide to thorn damage
  • Heal at level 5 adding more resilience to this monster and synergize extremely well with its high health restoring 3 Health every turn
=> These 2 abilities will compensate for the lack of base stats tankiness and making Cursed Windeku a worthy Tank for "only" 6 Mana!
=> Death Summoners are Kings of Debuffs: MIMOSA with Void and -1 Archery damage, ZINTAR with -1 Melee Damage and THADDIUS (more on later)
  • Slow always welcome in this speed Meta!

The Battle

30 Mana ; Standard Rules

Enemy was spamming Earth Magic composition and only played 1 Battle with Water Deck so I've opted for this lineup and found myself surprised facing the most annoying composition to play against:

CardPositionDescription
SummonerMy go-to Summoner for Death, not only it nerfs Magic Damage by 1, great against Earth Team Magic Spam and -1 Health always help in close battles!
TankOur Main Event! 10 Health, Good Damage and Speed, Thorns and Thaddius making it more resistant to magic damage.
2nd Tank4 Speed + Flying helps a lot with evading slow monsters attacks in addition to Scavenger and 6 Base health making it perfect to fill the Tank position after Windeku
3rd PositionLife Leech: The longer the Battle, the more health it gets! Cursed Windeku and Riftwing will allow enough time for Venrari to stack some Health!
4th PositionStun: if enemy monster is hit with stun, it'll cause it to skip its next turn
5th PositionMy main damage dealer that will target the backline with Sneak and 3 damage
6th PositionMy second damage dealer with Sneak and 2 damage + 1 Armor protecting it for enemy sneak attack

Round 1

  • Starting up with Summoners, Kelya +1 Armor will get in the way of my sneak attackers however Thaddius -1 Health debuff made 3 monsters with only 1 health.
  • Serpent of Eld attacks first damaging Windeku and getting 2 Thorn damage back, Pelacor bandit sneak attack is wasted on Uraeus armor same as Silent Sha vi attack on Deeplurker
  • First Blood from Deeplurker taking down Uraeus on the first hit!
  • No Stun this turn from Revealer
  • Scavo annoyingly repairs Serpent of Eld Armor

Round 2

r2.PNG

  • Cursed Windeku turning the tides: after Serpent's attack, Thorns got rid of its armor and Windeku dealing the final blow netting the first kill for our team!
  • Deeplurker opportunity slains Venari before giving it the chance to restore its health with Life Leech
  • Revealer takes down Pelacor Bandit
  • Cursed windeku still standing strong after Feasting Seaweed attack and destroys its armor again with Thorns
  • Riftwing reaching 10 Health thanks to scavenger

Round 3 - 4

r3.PNG

  • The battle is not over yet, sadly Sha-Vi attack was wasted on Deeplurker repaired armor but Cursed Windeku took down Feasting seaweed
  • Windeku is OUT after taking a hit from Deeplurker, Thorn damage got absorbed by the repaired Armor
  • Riftwing scavenging to 12 Health and took down the 1st position
  • Silent Sha-vi finally slays Deeplurker and eliminating the major thread.

Round 4+

and now we're stuck: Scavo keeps repairing its armor from Sha-vi attack and Merdalii healing from Revealer damage
BUT Revealer saves the day with stun: after stunning Merdali, it could not heal therefore by staying at 1 health, it was eliminated on the next turn:

The battle is finally concluded with a satisfying victory over the most annoying water composition. GGWP

How important Cursed Windeku was?

Well, very important! First from the Thorn damage allowing me to take down Serpent of Eld as fast as possible and second from his tankiness and surviving for as long as possible allowing my sneak attackers to do their job in the meantime.

Revealer stun was also relevent to nullify Merdaali heal and end the battle shortly.

Any changes can be made in this battle?

As long as I have the Quatro: Cursed Windeku, Riftwing, Silent Sha-vi and Uraeus, the rest is secondary.
Magi Necrosi would be a great addition! With Snipe it'll target Merdaali on the 1st turn and Scavo on the 2nd turn and would end the battle fairly quicker is easier!
