Pink-winged Stick Insect in Terrey Hills plus Orchids : February 17 2022
Somehow got moving earlier and not for markets. When they are rough I stay away. Planned to go shopping for the week. Slot in a walk before in the Terrey Hills side of the National Park was the plan
We have had a lot of rain this summer. Mushrooms know it and are early.
Rice flower - not quite in focus with new phone
This was a test photo. These flowers are really hard to get focus right. I figured the double decker effect might fool the lens. It did but not the way I thought.
Bigger mushroom action. A little further, I saw something large and pink flapping off track. I went looking
It is an insect thst was trapped upside down - hence the flapping. I released it and turned it over - stopped flapping but did not move
Not seen one before. It is a pink-winged phasma - podacanthus typhon. It is a type of stick insect and is endemic to SE Australia
That got me walking into the bush and looking for chiloglottis orchids in the rainforest segment
Leaf and bud is a good start
Right next door was this flower open - chiloglottis seminuda or sylvestris - hard to pick
Next one is more like seminuda - turtle orchid
Back to the features of the first one on this plant
Walked up on the track that cuts through the bush higher up. It is not great for orchids but it is shady on a very hot day. Weird spotty fungus
Lots of fringe lilies along this way. They open on warm sunny days only.
Not seen this banksia before - much smaller than the others and less delicate
Twins in yellow
Climbing pea flowers
Zoom in to see spider action on right hand side
Spider grevillea is always a favourite
Nice walk with the mission of seeing first chiloglottis for the season on this track met. Changed shirt and then did the shopping for the week. Did forget the berry fruit. Once a week is my rule until this check in and mask bullshit is over.
Spent the afternoon learning about gaming platforms here on Hive. I am not a gamer but happy to learn how to earn crypto off the platforms. Splinterlands it was and bought my first SPS tokens to stake. 31.99% APR is a no-brainer. Bought CHAOS the day before to get a Chaos Legion pack or two. Game looks hard work to me. What I love is the easy way to move tokens around - fast and free. I have so little time free to do any gaming. Maybe less Facebook scrolling will do it.
Also spent time working some old/new software to split test stuff. Called Split Test Monkey. It is easy enough to is if one has HTML web pages to test. A bit harder for page builder pages.
Dinner: Pasta with smoked salmon and baby spinach.
Simple. Make a roux (butter and flour). Add in some chopped garlic and spring onions to soften. Add a little milk and S it warms up add in a few tablespoons of cream cheese - one at a time and get it to melt. Top up with a little milk occasionally. Cook pasta separately. When it has 2 minutes to go drop in torn spinach leaves to cream sauce. When pasta is draining drop chopped smoked salmon into sauce. Drop in pasta and serve with cracked pepper. Note: no salt - plenty in the salmon
