What your SPS Is Evolving?! + NFT Giveaway Chaser

avatar

What?! Your SPS Game mechanics are evolving, almost unilaterally from governance to SPS generation & more SPS upgrades on their way. In todays write up ill utilize my Splinterlands obsession for a good cause & go over exactly where we are in relation to their SPS whitepaper.

So problematic partitioning of my personal neurological storage aside for a moment, in this writeup ill have a very public Splinterlands nerding out moment & your welcome to join me.

Governance

To govern a system via laws, market incentives, or societal preference is the concept of governance in its purest form.

In recent years this term has exploded in its popularity going from one barely used, to a term, in our market at least that is almost common place.

While typically Governance in regards to blockchain is related to the blockchain itself & originally with PoW models like BTC was undertaken when the coin halved.

DPoS Models like HIVE or PoS like BSC function a little differently however. Instead of having those mining like PoW tasked with voting on blockchain governance, those voting are individuals that stake assets in that model.

PoS gets a little more complex as there can be staking requirements to vote where as DPoS models give your vote weight based on the amount staked.

In Delegated Proof of Stake DPoS you can actually delegate your vote weight to a proxy tasked with representation of your voting interest.

Though in game Governance is a bit new for Splinterlands its not for Blockchain gaming or HIVE in general.

Here is the first proposal outlined in the post which can be found via the link below.
https://ecency.com/splinterlands/@sps.dao/sps-governance-first-proposal

Please understand its to test the staked SPS & users interested in governance so its important if you plan on using governance to vote on this first 1 to give Splinterlands Devs an Idea of Governances popularity.

https://sps.splinterlands.com/in-game-governance

The whitepaper for SPS 👆 specifically the SPS governance outlines proxy usage for delegating vote weight.

Given most including myself dont have much vote weight based on our staked SPS being not that high having individuals tasked with voting on our behalf via proxy is of immense importance.

Strength in numbers, allowing humans to accomplish the impossible, & the fact this is a game isn't lost on me. While yes in game governance of Splinterlands will not change the world, However its significance should not be understated.

Now if you care about this governance & you have staked SPS be sure and participate in the first vote just to clarify its important to you.

SPS DEC earning mechanics

DEC rewards for winning ranked matches in Splinterlands just went the way of the Dodo. SPS rewards have suddenly sprung to life ushering in a new age in Splinterlands.

Now winning ranked matches Bronze rank or higher doesn't just generate DEC but instead now you generate SPS.

Even SPS rewards have been added to chests, DEC while fantastic has had issues as Splinterlands only crypto. SPS allows for much more in depth usage from governance to player delegation.

Do I believe DEC would be replaced entirely no but it has needed work with its old design be that rewards pools being exploited or volatility. DEC worked fine, but for advancing much further in the games complexity Splinterlands required SPS.

In the long run striking a balance between the two DEC & SPS to me would be ideal.

For now we can earn DEC renting or selling NFTs on the in game market or a few secondary HIVE Splinterlands markets.

You can also provide liquidity on a few blockchains with SPS or DEC for rewards of either or both.

DEC just became hard to get in comparison which leads to a higher resale price of chaos legion packs & DEC average price.

SPS became more readily available, however right now limited use cases exist for the time being prices will reflect this.

Causation leads to corelative effect within a market supply increasing with limited demand prices lower. Decrease a supply with an existing demand prices increase though not always the case, with Splinterlands we have DEC market history to reference.

Sense of agency

Though realistically I understand how optimistic asperations I have regarding blockchain technology & its potential uses are less then feasible.

One aspect I care most about in terms of what blockchain has to offer is consumer agency IE the individual rights of people in a digital market / society.

Understand by agency I'm not referring to an ad agency nor a government agency but the philosophical concept of individual rights.

The right to repair debate is an example of consumer rights being infringed upon, many may not be aware, but John Deer has made it illegal to repair your own John Deer equipment outside their approved channels.

In construction this makes it impossible for small businesses to own a John Deer Skidsteer.

Above is a Bobcat Skidsteer Bobcat being the brand, John Deer while thought of as mowers or tractors has Skidsteers & construction equipment.

Why is this connected to Splinterlands?

For starters I play a good amount of matches sitting in a airconditioned skidsteer, however what I'm driving at is while we get game governance in Splinterlands, currently I cant fix my own john deer equipment.

So how does this effect you?

You may or may not realize companies like John Deer, Apple, Nintendo, & many more have been slowly removing consumer rights.

While Splinterlands isn't going to change the world, they do now allow for consumers to have a vote on changes they propose. We are also allowed the consumer agency afforded to us by digital asset ownership IE NFTs & crypto.

Compare this with say the new Diablo 4, a video game Blizzard recently launched, the game items purchased from Diablo 4 can not be sold & even digital copies of the game have no value after purchase.

I understand you already may be aware of the digital media markets & their consumer exploitation. In fact you may already be aware of Intellectual property rights of companies that do not allow you to fix items you legally own.

Though yes Splinterlands Game Governance & asset ownership are not breakthroughs that changed society, they are important.

As consumers even as individuals, regardless of where you live, in recent years you have likely allowed for companies to infringe upon asset ownership & consumer freedoms for convenience.

Agency on a philosophical level, I believe should be celebrated when given back to consumers, & thus why Splinterlands SPS game Governance is a great achievement.

Looking back then moving forward

Never forget history, but instead I apply its lessons while progressing toward a better future.

Splinterlands while in the grand scheme of things is fairly young that being said as to is blockchain in general. While not the oldest Blockchain game Splinterlands is one of the oldest DPoS Blockchain games.

This is why I hold such irreverence for this title, DPoS modeled Blockchain games are rarer but have greater potential then ETH based games ever did.

Splinterlands has grown since its launch to a juggernaut being the undisputed HIVE blockchains MVP Most Valuable Project.

Looking forward I try to acknowledge Splinterlands significance the projects growth & what their devs have been able to accomplish thus far.

Having been a fan for so long its one of the only games I currently even play, suffice to say if its not a blockchain game I'm not playing the game.

Not strictly due to financial gain, I wont lie to you its a component but there are aspects of blockchain games not driven by greed are no less important.

This being stated I having been with Splinterlands for years now, & have learned a thing or 2.

For instance I was part of the market while Untamed Booster packs & Dice packs where still being sold in the in game market.

Dice packs being a rarer pack had better odds & a higher price with far fewer produced overall compared to untamed booster packs.

Riftwatchers Booster Packs scheduled to release in the coming months
will have a max supply of 3,000,000 total.

Compare that with Chaos legion packs the obvious similarities are obvious between the Untamed Booster packs / Dice packs.

Note how the 2 released Dice packs being 5x rarer then Untamed packs.

Since the Chaos legion packs are 5x the Riftwatchers max supply 15 million Chaos Legion packs compared to 3 million Riftwatchers packs.

The Riftwatchers are the stand in for Dice packs.

Dice packs are my highest earning colection thus far in Splinterlands as they have the best odds I have ever encountered with Splinterlands.

Out of 25 cards 50 when talking gold cards as well Dice packs have 10 legendary cards or 20 out of 50 including gold cards are legendary.

This means 2/5 of cards in the Splinterlands Dice pack colection are legendary. Which is why they made me the most money opening thousands of these is a higher profit potential due to their odds being superior.

We know nothing of Riftwatchers Packs vis a vi the total number of cards their rarity nothing. We do know they are 1/5 the total number of packs from this I can begin extrapolating my investment strategy.

My understanding is the Riftwatchers packs will be exclusively bought with SPS, think about how Dice packs where strictly DEC.

Although the demand for Dice packs came mostly from their value in the SPS airdrop as did the DEC at the time. This doesn't mean SPS being required as the only way to purchase Riftwatchers packs will not be a factor in the average SPS price.

Our current system is all supply with little demand for SPS, while slowly taking shape as the true purposes of SPS are unveiled demand will likely begin to reflect this.

Not only is the SPS supposed to be the Riftwatchers only in game payment type, but it has more uses beyond buying packs, outlined in the roadmap / SPS whitepaper.

For instance in addition to the game governance SPS delegation is outlined as being a earning mechanism.

Above is the SPS whitepaper my favorite read at this point & I read often.
https://sps.splinterlands.com/rewards/ranked-battles
You can read the full page via the link above, the TLDR is SPS staking & delegating to fellow players will according to the whitepaper be something players can do to profit off other players performance.

This is yet another reason for the SPS demand to increase, will this happen over night, no it wont.

You should however keep this in mind going forward I certainly do, understand SPS is significant in many ways. While the price may not reflect this currently, things change relatively fast in blockchain asset markets.

First time somebody may actually win something in Vegas?!

Video Games

Not often do I hear of games launching in recent years that are not full of issues at launch. Nintendo products & the only other exception for this year being From Software. By which I mean From Software Elden Ring & a few Nintendo Titles aside this years games are not great for are current tech being the best its ever been games are somehow worse, but why?

I wrote about consumer agency earlier now lets discuss why in a game the players agency is so important.

Video Games where years ago a set purchase rarely modified if ever modified at all. Before live service models where possible Video Games where less likely to update or change.

This meant greater attention was payed to the project even going so far as to thoroughly test a project before the games release.

Nintendo Projects clearly still receive this level of care though they are problematic for other reasons.

Nintendo has been adding to the switch what basically amounts to an emulator for old titles, problem being its not free & they are so terrified of theft they wont allow usage of these titles offline.

Due to the fear the file being used on their emulator is fraudulent the emulator for the switch is nearly useless for certain games.

With these glaring flaws Game companies see fit to charge more, for less then perfect titles features & microtransactions.

Outside Elden Ring (From Software) traditional game companies could learn much from blockchain games. Splinterlands actually amazes me with its level of professionalism displayed by their team.

Despite being so much more complicated as Splinterlands a Blockchain game being attached to several Blockchain Ledgers, oracle systems, privatized servers & more.

Splinterlands assets when released & the game updates are able to be used immediately, in case of cards used in matches or transferable as soon as you can access them in your inventory.

Not to experience errors is almost unheard of in games in general Blockchain gaming its unheard of.

Agency isn't entirely about individuals rights when referring to a consumers agency within commerce its also somewhat about ensuring quality or value of the product they are paying for.

Consumer protections are nebulous & typically when it comes to games quality isn't a commonly the considered metric.

From this lack of oversight typically what occurs is abuse or less then savory business practices.

Gamers that have not seen the light assume NFTs are an extension of these unsavory practices, thought of as a scam or microtransaction.

However Splinterlands as a game reminds myself of the old days when games that where poetry in motion. Where value isn't ascribed but earned by the games creators, devs, & studio.

Even better Splinterlands allows a value of game items that normal gamers haven't even considered possible.

Furthermore fans of video games lack involvement with the project a oxymoron if I have ever heard one because video games as an artistic medium is an immersive one.

Splinterlands allows us now the possibility to effect game changes via SPS staking & in game governance / voting.

I never thought I would make money playing games, never believed as a consumer I would have a say in my favorite artistic medium, & believed as a gamer my destiny was simply diminishing quality / value.

Thank you Splinterlands for giving me Something I thought impossible, hope.

Splinterlands Referral

Our next #stashpass raffle prizes I believe will include Bang Defense gun NFTs allowing winners to play yet another HIVE P2E title.

One last tip

If you rent cards out to play Splinterlands like I do you may be freaking out its harder to get DEC.

The rental process on Card auctions, Peak Monsters, or even the in game rental market utilizes Credits or DEC I prefer to rent with credits already. The stable asset Credits also gives me a better measure of the total rental costs.

I'm sure seasoned Splinterlands players wont find that helpful, but if your freaking out dont worry about this specifically. That being said the world is ending, so you may still want to panic just not over DEC in relation to Splinterlands rentals.

A little bit of rambling but I believe you said you love SPL and are continuing to invest in packs.
Do you expect RiftWatcher packs to sell out quickly?

I generally think SPS prices will move up as the projects come online. Not sure how many are cashing out after the airdrop.

Yeah Rift watchers should sell relatively quickly when compared to Chaos Legion Packs they should have a better odds with fewer common & Uncommon cards in the Rift watchers colection.

Twice previously Splinterlands launched packs in a similar manor Dice & Orb packs have better odds then their Untamed Packs & Beta Packs.

So Chaos Legion is to Untamed Packs what Dice Packs are to Rift watchers packs from this you can speculate they behave in similar ways with the more expensive rarer packs Rift Watchers being better to open.

Popularity took a hit as did the market after the SPS airdrop but from observing the Splinterlands market volume over the years I can attest to its much higher popularity. The Current market when compared to a few years ago, even after the airdrop was over & those users cashed out, their market is still in a much healthier state.
