Looking Back at the Chaos Legion Bargains and What Has Changed 3 Days Later

Taking the opportunity to see if featured Bargain Bin cards have appreciated.

None of this article is financial/investment/legal advice, it contains a strategic valuation analysis of speculative assets that can be subject to market fluctuations. You are suggested to seek out a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) for all investments and the author is not an RIA. Splinterlands' Terms of Service identifies Splinterlands/Steem Monsters as not being an Investment Company. As defined by the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, Steem Monsters (the parent company of Splinterlands) and the Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) that was published by Steem Monsters can be argued to rise to the definition of being classified as Financial Institutions in the United States. This is a duty to warn and inform given that the actions to be described regard the valuation of assets and speculation of events to take place.

It is important to look back at past calls and see if the bargains that were presented were actually bargains. Chaos Legion Edition cards have been battered over the past two months and this is an opportunity to see if these articles are providing value in finding cards that would appreciate. Readers may want to tail the calls or fade the picks (like one would fade Jim Cramer). It's time to re-visit this article from May 25, 2023 and see how it is going.

1. Lichen Beast

The Gold Foil Lichen Beast was 49.9 cents per card when featured in the article. Now, Lichen Beast is 58.9 cents per card. This is not a significant jump, after all, it is a 9 cent (18.03%) appreciation. However, the card did appreciate and there is a possibility for greater appreciation on a per card basis if it can get past the 59.3 cent resistance point.

2. Night Ghoul

Those who jumped into the bargain bin and grabbed the Gold Foil Night Ghoul, which is still rather short in supply, can be rewarded with a modest absolute gain of $1.367 (84.91%).

image.png

Notice the short supply of cards here, those who are looking to sell would be advised to let $2.978 be the lowest price on the board and put their prices above this level so that the price goes up rather than turning a supply shortage into a race to the bottom.

image.png

$3 level is the resistance level, which makes sense, but this can easily be cracked if market participants opt to not do anything that would bring the price down. There could be another surge upward in price beyond this 84.91% jump.

So far the previous article is 2 for 2.

3. Arachne Thug

The Gold Foil Arachne Thug has not made a big move like the way Night Ghoul has, but history is on this card's side. If there was a card that could make a massive surge, it is this one. However, this card has a clear resistance zone at $1.92 before the next resistance zone at roughly $2.40. The card did not appreciate much from 3 days ago, it went from $1.798 to $1.92. That's only a 7.32% increase, it's best to just hold onto the card and wait for the resistance zone to be cleared.

image.png

3 for 3 here, but this is one is nothing to brag about at this given time.

4. Kelya Frendul

The Gold Foil Kelya Frendul was definitely at a bargain price 3 days ago, $11.50 per card. Nothing has changed here, but on a per BCX basis, the price has appreciated as it is also $11.50 per card.

image.png

image.png

The key takeaway is that Kelya Frendul faces a resistance zone between $12.25 and $12.50. If this is overcome, the next resistance zone is $14.25 and the next resistance zone is at $15.50.

So far 3 for 4 here, this is still a bargain, but it has not depreciated after 3 days.

5. Silent Sha-vi

This was part of a "Dollar Menu" offering. It was a bargain then and it is still a bargain now.

image.png

The Gold Foil Silent Sha-vi appreciated by 25.78% over the past 3 days, but this is only a 13.3 cent profit for a single BCX card.

The next point of resistance is between 70-74 cents. If the price can overcome this zone, the price can rise all the way up to $1 and get back to where it is usually priced.

image.png

The Bargain Bin is 4 for 5, which is pretty good, but let's see the last selection.

6. Disintegrator

On a per card basis, Disintegrator appreciated quite a bit, the downward pressure can be attributed to the multi-BCX offerings. 22.18% appreciation on a per card basis. It's a modest 11.6 cent gain for this Gold Foil neutral common card.

image.png

The upside is not there for this card just yet, but once some of these multi-BCX cards clear, it could certainly rise on a per card basis.

So 5 for 6 is pretty good here.

Key Takeaways

Cheap Gold Foil Common cards from the Chaos Legion and Riftwatchers sets have appreciated in the past 24 hours. It's likely that the combination of current events concerning the U.S. debt ceiling have had a ripple effect on the value of Chaos Legion packs and cards.
