Hive Communities should be using LeoThreads

Our Bubble

I was responding to a comment yesterday and once again got hit with an idea for a article. It happens 90% of the time I'm commenting. Something someone else says will get my mind whirling in a direction I hadn't thought of and voila! new material.

This one happened to be about the "bubble" we live in here on LeoFinance. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but for the most part, it's the same group of people day after day all saying the same sorts of things in their own unique ways. Yes, we've got some outliers that come up with some outside-the-box ideas sometimes, but again, most of what we consume is all in the same genre: finance, whether it's crypto, government, or TradFi.

But there is really a lot more going on in #LeoFinance than just money, and it all starts with LeoThreads. I saw @khal "thread" yesterday that the number of "threads" have 3-4x'd over the last couple weeks. It's starting to catch on here in the community as many of the smaller authors are finding it can be a great way to get their name out there. It's also an easy way to interact with some of the bigger authors, like @taskmaster, for instance, and even better, probably the most benevolent whale on Leo, @onealfa, has started using almost his entire stack of voting power on threads. The opportunities continue to multiply and the team hasn't even released the vastly improved UI yet.

Where are They?

This got me to thinking, why aren't we seeing some of the other communities on Hive using #LeoThreads? I mean the benefits are massive. I just laid them out: more exposure, access to whales, and opportunities to collect votes. It seems like a no-brainer to me.

So why haven't they been using it? The only three reasons I've been able to come up with that make any sense are:

  1. They haven't heard about it yet.
  2. They don't understand how powerful it can and will be.
  3. They don't know how easy it is to use.

Otherwise, why wouldn't they be here?

Personally, I think the first reason is probably the biggest although it probably goes hand in hand with the second. As much as we all like to think we, as the #LeoFinance community, are the most important, or the most active, or the biggest contributors to the Hive community as a whole, it is simply not true. Yes, in my opinion, I think we are probably one of the strongest communities on Hive and as such, have probably the most well-rounded vision of what Hive can be as an ecosystem. But there are literally thousands of Hive users out there that have never opened the Leo front-end.

Potential Users

The #Actifit community, for example, has 600 MAUs (monthly active users) with over 7000 subscribers. How many #Actifit threads have you seen recently? Any? #CineTV has over 2000 subscribers. I've seen a couple little reviews but that's it. The City of Neoxian has over 3700 subscribers. I don't think I've seen their name on threads once. Yes, there is some overlap on some of these numbers, but the vast majority of them are individuals who have never been to #LeoFinance. The photography buffs of which there are hundreds; the foodies, also a good-sized number; the gold & silver people; the travel people; the specific country people--Phillipines, UK, US, Venezuela, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, etc.; all have communities here on #Hive that aren't utilizing this tool.

Hashtag

Every single community on Hive should have a hashtag on threads. Every one. Before we worry about converting the Twitter people of the world to #LeoThreads, we should be marketing to our own base of users. These people already have Hive accounts. We don't need to go through the whole "keys" thing. They are the warmest "leads" we're ever going to find. And they're right here on Hive.

We, as the Leo community, need to get out from our own comfortable echo-chamber and start engaging some of these other communities to bring them on board. It's in their best interest to start using threads and it will benefit every single person here. More users equals more transactions which equals more visibility to the outside world. It's not like there's a huge learning curve or anything. Hell, I can do it. Enough said.

In my mind, this should be our focus for the next few months as @Khal gets the UI ironed out. The more people we can get using it inside this ecosystem, the better the dev team will be able to test and see where the cracks are and what needs to be improved. If there's anything that's been proven over the last few years, it's that we here on Hive will have the patience to go through some growing pains. I don't think the same can be said about the outside world. It's still a "what have you done for me lately" world that wants instant gratification. Quicker if possible. We need to test the system with loyal users who are going to be willing to roll with the inevitable punches.

Our Challenge

If you read my post yesterday, you'll know that I'm trying to get the "Monthly Author" badge. This is the idea (spurred by a comment) I came up with to help me get there. I'm going to find a community that looks interesting, post something relevant, and try to engage them via comments on my post(s), and comments on other peoples' posts. Hopefully by doing this, I'll be able to bring some people over to threads to see what it's about. Once they're here, I think most of them will see the value and potential almost immediately.

So, in conclusion, that's my challenge. Go visit a couple new communities that look interesting to you. Ecency has a button on top you can click to see a list. Peakd does as well. Engage a new community and see what you can accomplish. Post something relevant in the community and then throw it up on threads and let people know it's there. Better yet, post someone else's work on threads and help them get more exposure. We're all in this together and the more of us there are, the more successful we all can be.

Remember:

Hive is the Way. LeoFinance, the "Gate"way.

Thanks for reading.

Yeah, something got screwed up. It disappeared from my blog. Like completely. I couldn't find it in the feed either. I know it got published the first time, but then it was gone. Fortunately I had it in Peakd so I was able to find it again but...who knows what happened? I have the computer savvy of an infant so I'm sure I effed something up. lol
