Welcome to my newest @splinterlands article series "Behind the Shield," where I'll be asking 20 questions of the members of our top3-ranked guild, @shield-of-glory. By asking questions about the game and about our lives, each article will help you get to know one of our battle mages better.

Since "Behind the Shield" was my bright idea, it is only fitting that I will be the first test subject. Here we go...

Splinterlands

Q 1: What is your Splinterlands IGN and why did you choose it?

A: @DuceCrypto. Duce was a nickname from my days working for NBA-TV, and I decided to use it to make my crypto persona. You can find me at DuceCrypto across socials for all my Web3 activities.

Q 2: When did you start playing Splinterlands and how did you hear about it?

A: I first heard about Splinterlands at the start of Fall of 2021 from a close friend who I used to travel with when we played competitive Magic: the Gathering tournaments. I finally bought my first spellbook and starting playing ranked matches during Thanksgiving weekend at the end of November 2021.

Q 3: What is your favorite Splinter?

A: Death.

Well technically only the two unis, UTexas & Teachers College at Columbia (it's the education branch), but I do have a total of 3 degrees (an undergrad in journalism and masters in math education and finance).

What and awesome concept. To allow players who are not ranked as high or perhaps new to the game to allow insight to a top guild. I look forward to the coming articles. You know I will stay tuned and that is for sure. I have a question you may want to ask your next profile. Maybe find out how they feel splinterlands could make the guild experience better then it currently is. I come from a MTG background as well. And also a heavy MMORPG background. Playing at an extremely high level. And for me you had to be in a guild to accomplish your goals in a MMORPG. But currently there is no true need to be in a guild except brawls. Or the DEC bonus. But even to achieve that you need an extremely leveled up guild.

As you know in The Syndicate, the members of the guild routinely offer delegations, share strategy, and Splinterlands content. In addition, for the DEC donations for buildings, you receive a boost to your DEC win rate as well as free CP in the form of Gladius cards.

Thanks for sharing! - @azircon

Now we get to know a bit more about our fellow gamers, eh? Always nice to get a 'person' behind that IGN, I say!

Agreed, that is our main focus for this article series. We wanted to let the community get an opportunity to get to know some of the players in one of the very top guilds, without doxxing too much personal information. We hope this is the first step in building a stronger eSports following as competitive tournament play ramps on the Splinterlands game client and through third-party organizations. Humanizing the players is necessary, in my opinion, to having a successful and engaging eSports product.
