For Guild & Glory: Brawl Report #142

Overview

Welcome back Splinterlands battlemages to another edition of "For Guild & Glory," my brawl report series covering all the action from my three accounts: @ducecrypto in Tier 4 with @shield-of-glory from the Kingdom of Glory [KoG] alliance, @treycrypto in Tier 3 with the @yggspl-official alliance YGG Brawlers (Niðavellir) and @shaelien in Tier 3 with the always lively @the420syndicate. DuceCrypto & Shield of Glory

After a 3rd place finish behind The Guild of Neoxian and Guardians of Glory in the last brawl cycle, Shield of Glory was looking to improve against some stacked competition. Unfortunately, we again suffered a similar fate and stumbled to 3rd place, this time behind Summoner's Tribe and Legendary Dragons. We still secured 150 crowns, 8571 merits, and 175 SPS for our efforts.

Shield of Glory was led by a trio of players at 7-1: @ign1te, @nizzyz, and @star-shroud, helping us to 3rd place. Defending my typical Fray 18 - Modern Silver Gold Foil, I stumbled to another 5-3 finish. I wasn't able to beat @cyberblock of Summoner's Tribe, but I did claim victory against @spirits4you from Legendary Dragons. They tried a creative melee-focused lineup running Helios Matriarch for two gladiators, Fina Voxom and Sarius, but my choice to use Mylor and fill all 6 monster slots helped seal the win before the gladiators got out of control.

TreyCrypto & YGG Brawlers (Niðavellir)

In Brawl #142, YGG Brawlers (Niðavellir) had to fend off a challenge from fellow YGG alliance member YGG Legacy to secure another 1st place finish. We finished 7 games ahead of our competition and collected 119 crowns, 6611 merits, and 65 SPS for our trouble.

We had four brawlers notch 7-1 records, but not pictured is @greatplayer2020, who swept their Gold Foil gold league fray for the 2nd straight week I've been here. Defending Fray 16 - Modern Silver Gold Foil, I again played a near-flawless fray, losing only a single battle from six contests. My loss to @sayee was extremely close, we both chose 4 of the same 5 monsters. Although I had more leveled-up monsters, their choice to use Temporal Master instead of Spirit Hoarder was the difference as the added damage from recharge took down my Pelacor through the heal.

Shaelien & The 420 Syndicate

After a disappointing 9th place finish in the last cycle, @the420syndicate bounced back in a big way for 4th place! As mentioned in my last brawl report, we were drawn into the same grouping as YGG Brawlers (Niðavellir), so I'm glad we performed better this time around. We won the tiebreaker with Stray [PH] since we had 11 less losses to get to 52 wins, and took home 47 crowns, 2089 merits, and 35 SPS.

Leading us to that finish was @supermuffin with a 7-1 mark, and another 6 wins from @jymydan, but when the standing are this tight every win counts! I was very pleased to finish an even 4-4 with my Shaelien account, which plays in Fray 13 - Modern Diamond with only a gold league deck. It is so satisfying to take down a maxed diamond deck with only gold cards, and more often than not, it is Astral Entity leading the way. Check out this win, where my gold league death team with the mighty Raa takes down @xurph and their Rathe life team.

The Gladius Cases

The Gladius Case opening went a little better this time around, as Duce was able to snag a few Gold Foil for the collection, but sadly nothing shiny for Trey. Shaelien was the big winner, cracking its first copy of Fina Voxom for the only account that gets to play regular foil.

New Brawl Preview

Looking forward to cycle #143, Tier 4 will be getting a little easier as there are now three guilds prepared to battle in Tier 5 for the first time: Summoner's Tribe, The Guild of Neoxian, and Immortal Gods. In fact, I like our chances for Shield of Glory to take control of first place indefinitely, as the guilds that moved onto Tier 5 were our toughest competition.

In Tier 3, YGG Brawlers (Niðavellir) in 20th place overall is the top-ranked guild in our group of 10 with competition from two Top 50 guilds: Team Possible Power and TEAM PH. I'm looking forward to making it three from three for 1st place with @yggspl-official.

On the other hand, The 420 Syndicate is in for a rough one, but I know we'll be able to punch above our weight in a group of 9. At 180th, we are the lowest-ranked guild in our group but there is room to overperform. What is really holding us back is a lack of consistent Gold Foil and A/B players. Our win rate has been good, but we just play many fewer games than the top guilds due to a lack of players to fill the frays. C'est la vie, 420 fam.
