Overview

Welcome back Splinterlands battlemages to another edition of "For Guild & Glory," my brawl report series covering all the action from my three accounts: @ducecrypto in Tier 4 with @shield-of-glory from the Kingdom of Glory [KoG] alliance, @treycrypto in Tier 3 with the @yggspl-official alliance YGG Brawlers (Niðavellir) and @shaelien in Tier 3 with the always lively @the420syndicate. You can see my last report for Brawl #148 here.

DuceCrypto & Shield of Glory

SoG Brawl 149.png

I've got a ton of respect for Summoner's Tribe, as I feel it is the strongest brawling guild in the game. So when I see them in my Tier 4 brawl group, I always get a bit excited at the chance to knock them off their perch. I tend to focus a bit more on these brawls because I'm still itching to see Shield of Glory best them in brawl. Unfortunately, in Brawl #149 we finished in second place behind Summoner's Tribe by 16 wins. On the bright side, we ended up ahead of [RKO] Outta Nowhere by three wins after falling behind them in a few of the prior brawl cycles. For our final record of 99 wins and 46 losses, we earned 164 crowns, 9371 merits, and 163 SPS.

Like I said in the open, I always get fired up to face Summoner's Tribe and it showed in my results - for the first in what feels like forever I turned in an undefeated performance defending Fray 18 - Modern Gold Foil Silver League in Tier 4. I led the way for Shield of Glory with a 7-0 record while a quartet of brawlers racked up 6-1 finishes: @star-shroud, @iproto, @azipoon, and @azircon.

Without any losses to learn from, you already know I'm going to start by highlighting my big win over @cyberblock of ST. We squared off in a 53-mana opportunity battle, so I went with a taunt strategy with Agor Longtail and multiple resurrections, while they countered well with Jacek and a heavy magic attack. I was actually pretty scared of the double strike of new soulbound reward card Sorrel the Bale, but scattershot is always a crapshoot and I ended up finishing on top in this classic Kitty vs. Jacek encounter. I guess I'll have to look forward to our next chance to take down Summoner's Tribe.

TreyCrypto & YGG Brawlers (Niðavellir)

YGG Brawl 149.png

After getting back to winning ways in Brawl #148, YGG Brawlers (Niðavellir) suffered its worst finish since I joined 10 cycles ago with a third place finish in Brawl #149. With a record of 86 wins and 68 losses, we finished seven wins behind second place and 10 wins behind first place New Bot Order. Despite the frustrating finish, we still earned 82 crowns, 4556 merits, and 39 SPS.

Based on historical data, @greatplayer2020 has been the guild's best brawler and he continued to show that in this cycle with a flawless 7-0 record. @haedan chipped in with a 7-1 finish and @frozenpizza also racked up seven wins. I made the Top 5 brawler board with my 6-3 record defending Fray 16 - Modern Gold Foil Silver League.

I suffered a frustrating loss against @spl4life from the winning guild, as my Level 4 Tarsa lineup didn't have enough defenses to beat their Level 3 Mylor in a melee-only battle. Another battle I want to highlight is my crushing defeat to fellow Kingdom of Glory alliance member @plumubble, where my strategy to take advantage of the amplify battle condition by using Ilthain backfired when they used a melee-focused Tarsa lineup without a single range monster. Nice one mate! I hope this result was a wake-up call for me and my guildmates to focus a bit better so we can get back to our winning ways of taking down Tier 3 brawls.

Shaelien & The 420 Syndicate

420 Brawl 149.png

With The 420 Syndicate, I'm willing to accept small victories as we placed eighth out of ten in Brawl #149 after two straight ninth place finishes prior. Highlighting one of our weaknesses, we were only three losses behind the guild in seventh place, but due to our reduced number of filled frayed, we were 16 wins behind them as well. Our 47 win and 57 loss record netted us 37 crowns, 1850 merits, and 24 SPS.

Standing tall at the top of our brawler standings were longtime members @gord0 and @one-zero who each racked up six wins. I finished with an average record at 4-4, which is below my standard for the quality of this collection. But I need to tighten up my play if I am to start leading by example for The 420 Syndicate.

Case in point is my battle against @xensational of the winning guild YGG Legacy. In this 31-mana all-magic and blast battle we both brought similar Thaddius lineups with Djinn Muirat as tank. While I sought to take advantage of the magic reflect with Cabalist's amplify, they one-upped me by using the snipe attack of Magi Necrosi to deal substantially more damage to more monsters, significantly crippling my attack. Despite our bottom-half finishes, I know we have the talent to turn things around and improve. We just need a few more brawlers to join the 420 team, so come smoke em if you got em!

The Gladius Cases

Ironically, in this cycle of Gladius Case openings, the two Gold Foil accounts that are stacked with Power Stones managed ZERO gold foils in 7 cases (Duce 4 and Trey 3), while my only regular foil account Shaelien managed a Gold Foil with no stones in its single case opening. Oy Vey!

New Brawl Preview

With no offense intended to our Tier 4 opposition for Brawl #150, I think Shield of Glory is a strong favorite to finish first in the group as many of our toughest rivals are in other groups. In Tier 3, YGG Brawlers (Niðavellir) again has work to do as six of the nine guilds in the group are ranked in the Top 100, although we are the highest-rated guild of the bunch. In an interesting twist of fate, The 420 Syndicate is paired against the guilds who won their last two groups, YGG Legacy for Brawl #149 and Schneewittchen Mining for Brawl #148. Despite the strength of the competition, I've got a feeling The 420 Syndicate will step it up this cycle.

After what seems like forever, I will sadly be heading home after a week in Barcelona and nine days in Ibiza. So thanks to you all for bearing with my scheduling delays as I reported from the road. Hopefully, I will be able to get some non-Splinterlands vacation content out this next week before I head back out on the road again for two weeks in Las Vegas centered around the Electric Daisy Carnival. If you're enjoying what you're reading, please give me a follow and drop me a comment as I like to engage with my readers.

Until next time, I'll see you in the Splinterlands!
