Things I Wish I Knew When I First Started

Hi all, this is a list of some stuff I wish I knew about during my first season of the game.

Hit Chance Calculation

I'm pretty sure the tutorial does go over how speed affects who goes first, but it never went into detail on how the hit chance is calculated.

The breakdown is as follows:

The faster the defender is compared to the attacker, the chance to dodge increases by 10% for every point of speed difference. So if attacker has speed of 1 and defender has 4, there's a 30% dodge chance. Flying and the Dodge skill give 25% chance to dodge each, while blind is an extra 15%. All of these can stack and go over 100%.

Magic can never miss unless the defender has phase.

Being faster than the defender does not give any bonus chance to hit since the base hit chance without modifiers is already 100%. Flying can also be neutralized by other flying monsters or having a unit with snare.

Do keep in mind though, that Brighton Bloom gives all friendly units flying, so if the enemy doesn't have magic, flying, or snare, your units gain 25% chance to dodge.

Learning How Much Power Each Card Has

This is more important now than ever since end of season rewards are now tied to current league rather than highest reached. I have accidentally rented Chaos Legion Reward Cards because I thought their power was the same as the older reward cards.

Yep, that really hurt.

If you ever need a more visual guide to reading the Power Chart and how to differentiate the different tiers of cards, I'll link the guide I wrote below.

Peakmonsters makes it easier to get good rental deals for End of Season Rewards

Everyone knows that you can filter cards on the marketplace by price/BCX. But it doesn't actually tell you how economically efficient it is. Peakmonsters however, does give a breakdown. The below image was taken on the final day of the season (30th September)

Here you can see the the collection power, cost to rent per day, and how much CP/DEC each card will give you. Personally I look for cards that give at least 90/CP per DEC and it goes a really long way towards renting economically. Or at the very least, not burning an even larger hole in both your DEC and bank balances.

Furious Chicken is Amazing

It took me until the middle of my second season playing to finally try and rent the chicken and boy have I been missing out.

Literally free to play in battle, you can basically slot this thing anywhere and it genuinely can decide games by being the cannon fodder that takes an extra 1 to 3 hits. (with armor and divine shield) It also has no attack, meaning it can take the hit against an enemy with snipe if you put it second.

The importance of positioning

Positioning matter quite alot in the game, especially if you don't want important units from immediately getting smacked in the face.

In this case, my units were positioned this way because I was expecting to go against fire. Albatross is at the back to protect against Sneak, and all the fodder is in front to protect agasinst the hound and spy. Opportunity always goes for the lowest health minion first, in the event of a tie, it will go for the one closest to the frontline. (in this case, the chicken and ooze)

Here's a link to that battle:

Here's another, but this time vs a Yodin

Conclusion

Thats my list of stuff I wish I had known early on, do leave an upvote if you found it helpful and comment what other stuff you wish you knew about!
