A. How to avoid overpriced rentals?
B. How to avoid getting canceled rentals?
(Dec Give-Away for chosen followers, see the full details below)

On the last day of the season, the demand for power cards is too high that's why some of the cardholders took advantage of this situation to earn more money.

I came up with these ideas after I put myself in the shoes of those whale cardholders.

Tips and Tricks
A. How to avoid overpriced rentals
1.Use Peakmonsters for renting.

2C5518E5-235B-48A5-B408-452035B3C337.jpeg

First, Peakmonsters have more rental listings than splinterlands market that's why you have more choices to rent. You can find cheaper rents in peakmonsters that you can’t find in the splinterlands market. All of the listings in splinterlands market can be seen in peakmonsters, but not all the listings in the peakmonsters can be seen in the splinterlands market.

Second, you can easily rent as many cards as you want in peakmonsters in a single confirmation compared to splinterlands market where you will individually rent.

2.Rent a few days before the end of the season.

The ideal renting period is 72hrs to 48hrs before the end of the season. Rental price within this period seems more normal compared to the rental prices when the timer drops to the last 24hrs. People thought that they will save up money if they will rent at the last day. Rental price in the last 24hrs exceeds 5 to 8 times of their regular prices and the bad thing from this pricey cards is that some of the cards that you want to rent were no longer available that's why you will be forced to settle from the leftovers.

3.Know how to compute the collection power

3BD0D53B-7961-45F4-BDCA-B2ADCB1D32E9.jpeg

BCX x Base Collection Power = Total Collection power
This formula is commonly used for high-level cards where you will multiply the bcx to the LVL 1 collection power to get the total power. If you will know the resulting power of the card that you will rent, then you can manage and budget your following rentals. But if you were using peakmonsters you can easily view the collection power of the card and they will also display the equivalent power per dec.

B. How to avoid getting canceled
1.Know the names of the Top Holders or Whales - Higher than 10 Million Collection Power (preferably top 20 richest splinterlands player)

Top holders are the top contributors in the rental market. The good thing about knowing the names of these people is that they have a very slim chance of canceling your card rental. Why do you think so? For example, top 5 - byzantinist with 20 million power, if you will put yourself in his shoes he doesn't have the time to cancel his million card rentals on the last day of the season and return its normal rental price a day after. I found this trick effective and I’ve been renting from these top holders for the past 3 seasons and almost none of them canceled my rental.

2.Rent for utility and not for power

I prefer you guys to rent a normal foil card that you can use in battle, instead of a high-power gold foil card. Since gold foil cards were more in demand in these situations, they were more likely to be canceled than the normal ones. To catch up with the power given by the 50x Gold Foil Card, I recommend the Alpha/Promo/Beta cards since they have more collection power compared to the other recent editions. (Check the power chart).

3.Always check the status of your rented card
If you’re using peakmonsters, you can easily view the status of the rented card under the tab “rent”. If your rented card has an exclamation point(!) beside your remaining rental time, it only means that your card was being canceled by the owner. By knowing this simple information about the cancellation you can rent ahead of time to sustain the collection power that will be lost when the cancellation time took effect.

By applying these tips and tricks you will have a higher chance of surviving your rental cards until the end of the season

Overall I like the ideas you posted. Rent in advance. Rent from whales. Rent what you need. All great advice. The only thing I might balk at a bit is the rent from Peakmonsters. Peakmonsters is an awesome place to rent cards and for bulk buying I'll go there everytime. However, I think their marketplace and Splinterlands marketplace are the same price, same cards.

Final side note: Sometimes I rent power simply for the same of getting a higher rank at end of season. Right now I'm Gold III but rated Gold I. If I can find cheap power I'll rent it for year end rewards :)

I rented some alpha/beta cards just to reach Silver 3 since I don't have enough dec to spend.

Thank you for this helpful article, elzaaa.

Although the whales have a lower chance of canceling, I see a name from the Top 10 who just cancelled his rentals from my guild mates for end of season. That's why he's on our guild's blacklist when it comes to rentals.

Hopefully, the Splinterlands devs will be able to add features that would prevent this problem. End of season cancellations can be frustrating for a significant part of the Splinterlands community. (Wrote a couple articles about the issue as well.)

Thank you for the insightful article! I've been trying to be more thoughtful on ranking up and renting so this was a welcome read for me. I'm still mostly a newb and enjoy reading on others' insights on how to enjoy the game more. Followed you!

For this end season, I've been renting cards I often use for earth and water splinters (like flesh golem and wood nymph for earth and so on). I don't think I've rented from the top 20 but I've been lucky so far with none of them cancelling (so far) and is looking at Silver 3 rewards this coming end soon.

Thanks for the guide! super helpful and easy to understand.

sooperhero - I usually rent cards which I like using (for example: venari wavesmith) and some gold foil cards with high rarity for power and utility in battles.

Great post! I just recently discovered about the Rental features in PeakMonsters. It's indeed a great way to optimize CP through renting. Glad you found your way to Hive.
