Proposal Suggestions

(Edited)

What's up all my Splinterlands peoples. I know, I know, "But Witty, you don't really play, do you?" True, I'm not a sweaty die hard grinding out the utmost from my battle allotments and I sold pretty much my entire collection, but I still play. The rewards are typically worth the time. And, even though some of the fun has been stripped away with all the bot nonsense, it is still fun to see if I am good enough to beat those bots or other players.

image.png

Upon writing this, the account I am using as an example, is 27-18 with a 4 match win streak. The leader currently is just blowing people away somehow with only 4 days into the season. In fact, my win percentage is as good as or better than all but three people currently in the top 20 of that league's leaderboards. So, maybe I know how to play and maybe I can do it without max level cards. That being said, I have a few suggestions and questions for @clayboyn and @yabapmatt regarding possible proposals.

Low Level Cards

The picture above, is from a silver league battle. You will notice something, not all of my cards are 'max level' for this league. Did you know that if you use low level cards, you get penalized? For some reason, this match, I did not.

image.png

However, in this one, I was docked 24% of what I could have or should have or would have earned, had I had those max level or proper level cards. I don't even know what the cutoff is or what constitutes a card that is 'low level'.

image.png

All of the cards I used, I own. I didn't use any 'starter cards' nor had I rented anything. But still, I was scrutinized by the system currently in play to have a reduction in my possible earnings for the match. I'm kind of scratching my head at this.

Why am I being penalized for winning with lower level cards? That's like telling a 4th grader, who got on the A honor roll every semester, that they can't move on to fifth grade. "ya kid, you're smart. You got great grades, top of the class even, but you have to repeat 4th grade next year because your teacher used an outdated method to teach you one math problem the second week of school. Everyone else passes though, because they had max level cards."

🤣 I am suggesting, since a player's rewards are already dictated by the SPS staking mechanism, that this 'rule' be repealed and modified. A person should be congratulated for beating the AI and stronger players, using (a) lower level card(s). That takes skill, not money. Yes, starter cards should still be docked, but not 'low level cards', they still own them and bought them, right?

Rental Penalties

The second thing, and maybe this already exists, I haven't seen every single proposal, maybe about half, is maybe those that rent cards and SPS, should not be allowed to get any of the season rewards? Doesn't that make sense? Isn't there an SPS staked amount quota to even play in a certain league? (hint hint) Daily grinds, sure, give them their cookies, but if they aren't as vested in the longevity of the game, why should they be allowed to earn anything each season? Shouldn't those be for players that own their cards and stake their SPS?🤔

SPS Burns

Finally, and maybe this is already the plan and in the works and I just don't pay close enough attention, but there is a way for SPS to have more utility. Those soulbound cards? Let people pay X SPS to unbind them. The SPS could be burned, it would put new cards out there on the market and would give SPS a higher demand as people start burning it 'unlock' their cards.

Just some thoughts fellaz. What does the rest of the #splinterlands community and players think? Feel free to chime in with your thoughts and if you'd like to see any of these things seriously considered. Oh and REMEMBER TO BE YOU! I always am, even while scratching my head.

I think you have some really good pointers here, I also think that owning your cards and own sps should be rewarded and if you rent, sure get rewards but I don’t think its fair they get season rewards.
I know it isn't easy to be new, but If you don’t need to own your own cards or sps but still get same rewards... People wont lvl up their cards or care to own.

Great post Witty and I agree with you 100% 🤗

My point exactly with them not wanting to own the cards. Like leasing a car your whole life or renting an apartment. What do you have to show for it at the end of the day?

Nothing.. So True!
The saying "if you don’t hold it, you don’t own it* fits well 😁

And we worked hard to earn our own cards so that should be rewarded 😜
ESPECIALLY since we also helped so many new players in different ways.
I think I given away more cards over the years that I can count 😂 Hahahaha
But it's been a little cause of this, if I give them and they see they now own a Nice amount of cards, it inspires them to buy themselves. That worked most times, except for the few new ones in our tree guild that I gave cards to and they like thx... Then they left the guild 😳 WHAAAAT? 😂 Hahahaha

Don’t know anything about splinterlands. But from reading this they are very valid questions and it’s horseshit to be penalized for that.

I still haven't played but I enjoy reading the character bios and stories.

I'll be honest; I rarely play anything but brawls anymore specifically because of the stupid rule that causes me to lose a bunch of rewards due to not having high-level cards. Your analogy is brilliant! Or as I've thought of it, "you're so awesome you can beat people with better decks, but you get nothing because you haven't invested as much as they have." Dafuq?

I get the purpose; they want to generate income by selling more packs, and getting more commissions off selling cards through the markets. But it's a shitty way to try to encourage those activities. Just like removing starter cards from brawls (in the middle of a fucking brawl, no less) was another shitty move to try to force people to spend.

It's definitely all about the $$$. As a PIMP, I can sorta understand, but as a relatively new SPL player, it's made it much, much harder to get excited about the game.

Why I sold a bunch of them off. I still face bots in both leagues with rented maxed out decks and it's just stupid. But, I try to win sometimes.

With respect to the battles that you show in this article, I want to point you that it is clearly stated in the rules of combat that if you use low level cards you will be penalized with a reduction of your earnings. To avoid penalization in silver league figths you must use cards that have at least levels 3,2,2,1 (common, rare, epic, legendary). It is not necessary that you have all your cards at maximum levels for that league, only the stated minimum level for each league.
For example, in the second battle you used two level 1 common cards and 2 level 1 rare cards, that are below the minimum level required, so you has been penalized for that.

But why? Wouldn't that make me better than the player I faced by using lower level cards? I know what the rules are, I don't agree with them.

I was against the "anti-skill" card minimum level update when it happened. It makes the game optically look exclusively money oriented and not skill oriented. Most people don't want to watch or bet on a game where money is the driving factor (they want to do so on games of skill or luck), people want to see underdogs they want the possibility of "David beating Goliath". Penalizing David isn't a great look. I've been very mixed on SPL for a long while. I still check in on the game sometimes and play some hands of cards, but if I was new I know I wouldn't have been as excited as I was at the start. The times of skill being a primary determining factor for earning are behind us, it's not about the cards anymore and moreso about speculative ROI. Great post, I agree on the points mentioned. !PIMP !PIZZA

I likely wouldn't get into it at this point. It's pretty hard to earn anything worth your time in all honesty unless you have a decent deck.
