Smaller accounts can get into a lot of trouble for these things.

If you are talking about over zealous behaviour of the spaminator bot and those associated with it then I've already made my concerns known.

Its perfectly acceptable to use a link to the URL of a photo on the web for illustration of a point as long as it is clear that you are not claiming it as yours.

In any case its fair use and drives traffic to the original source.

Yes, you have already proven your ignorance on the topic.
That is why I unvoted your witness.
Perhaps you should look into the discussion from 5 years ago, why the steemcleaners were born.
I dislike them with a passion, but we kind of need them.

I just think it is incredibly unfair how some accounts get away with things, which would get other accounts into trouble.

I'm an experienced technology lawyer with 30 years experience in copyright law and its application online. I dealt with some of the earliest DCMA take down notices back in the late 1990s.

I also think it is unfair if small accounts are punished for what is legal and acceptable fair use use of photos.

I'm not "getting away with" anything.

I'm perfectly correct in my use of this image and so is anyone else doing the same thing of whatever account size.

I also agree we need some sort of spaminator like function, but am concerned about its current mode of operation.

This is why I have been working quietly to try to improve things.

I am not saying it is your fault, but: you are getting away with something others got into trouble for.
