Splinterlands – Share your Battle – Venari Spellsmith

Hey guys,

I hope I’m not too late. Weekend was too busy, but I rented a level 6 Venari Spellsmith especially for the battle of the week contest, so I wanted to post at least the article.

Venari Spellsmith

I normally own a Level 4 Spellsmith (I’m levelling up my deck to gold max, but even if we are in a bear market, it is quite expensive, if you start from scratch. I have 2/3 on gold max, unfortunately, Spellsmith was not one of them, so I rented the magic monster from the second market.

Let’s have a look at the stats.

Venari Spellsmith Stats.JPG

Even at the base level, Venari Spellsmith has the dispel ability. This is a nice ability, but not the most important one.
At level 4, it gets amplify, which is, why I chose the monster for this battle.
If I had to enter a max level battle, Spellsmith would have had one of the coolest ability, I can imagine. Redemption. He would have self-imploded, if he had been killed in battle and would have taken one HP from each monster.
But I was only able to send in a level 6 card. I wanted a level 6, and not only my level 4 Spellsmith for the second magic attack and – SPOILER – it could’ve been a factor for my success.

Ruleset, Splinter, Mana

But let’s have a look at the general set-up.

Ruleset.JPG

  • Ruleset 1: Target Practice
All Ranged and Magic attack Monsters have the Snipe ability
  • Ruleset 2: Even Stevens
Only Monsters with even Mana costs may be used in battles.
  • Manacap 60
  • Available Splinters: Water, Earth and Dragon

I could’ve chosen water for one extra shield, but it wasn’t worth it in my opinion.
So, I chose Dragon. As was my opponent.

Lineups

As I said, I went with Dragon and Quix. Minus 1 archery attack and minus one speed was more effective in my opinion as water. Djinn Chwalla with enrage and Thorns was a good choice combined with amplify from Spellsmith.
The off-tank was Baakjira. Not a bad idea as well, as Target Practice focussed all archers and magic monsters to the second position. Fortunately, I had upgraded Baakjira to level three a couple of days earlier.

Deeplurker in the third position, River Nymph in the second to last position (another amplify) and the Chaos Dragon finished my lineup.

I hoped, my opponent would choose at least two melee monsters (four thorns damage instead of two), but he decided otherwise.
Djinn Chwalla as a tank, Djinn Oshannus (clever) as an off-tank and damage-eater for my magic attacks, A level 1 Diamond Dragon with slow, one of my hate-cards (because I don’t own a single BCX of this monster) Doctor Blight in the middle of his deck and Diamond Dragon as well as Wave Brood with taunt finished up his lineup.

I looked at both decks and was undecided, who would win. The taunt was something, I didn’t expect and the slow from Diamond Dragon would give my enemy’s monsters an advantage, but I still would have take a bet on myself.

Round 1

Round1.JPG

As I feared, he attacked first with Djinn Oshannus, but luckily I had Baakjira in second place. He ate one magic attack and then I could attack with all my monsters against the taunt of Wave Brood.

But after Round 1, Wave Brood was still standing with 6 HP. The two amplifies from Spellsmith and River Nymph had its effect with my opponents Chwalla only having 4 HP.

Round 2

Round2.JPG

The enrage of my Chwalla kicked in, so he could attack first and killed the tank on the other side. The negative effect was, that Oshannus could attack Chwalla.

Doctor Blight put affliction on Baakjira. His self-healing was out after the second round, but he still had 9 HP and River Nymph eventually killed Wave Brood, so my other monsters finally could attack the second position (a week Diamond Dragon with 3 HP (10 shield points were irrelevant due to my magic monsters).

Round 3

Round3.JPG

I was joyful, when round 3 began. Due to the enrage, Chwalla was first to attack and he had 6 attack points. I completely forgot, that Djinn Oshannus at level 3 had forcefield. Every attack with 5 AP or more is reduced to 1 damage and that is what happened. I was in shock, when I realised, that Oshannus still had 8 HP. In addition to that missed Deeplurker his attack against Diamond Dragon and Doctor Blight applied his poison on my Baakjira. Three bad things in a row. I was out of luck, but even then, I still was in a better position.

Spellsmith killed the Diamond Dragon and was therefore one of the deciding factors in this battle.

Round 4

Round4.JPG

Djinn Oshannus killed Chwalla directly in the first attack, but then it was my turn and I ravaged through his lineup. Doctor Blight applied his second poison. This time on Spellsmith. It meant, the Spellsmith would be dead before the fight was over, because he only had 2 HP left.

Round 5 to 7

Round7.JPG

Deeplurker only took 1 HP from Oshannus, which was incredibly frustrating, because in the meantime, Doctor Blight killed River Nymph, but not, before the Nymph took poison and affliction from the now-tank Baakjira. My tank could heal itself up to 12 points again and now was nearly indestructible for the last two enemy monsters.

The last round was quickly resolved with Deeplurkers last strike, as he killed this blight bastard.

Battle Results

I didn’t get much rewards, but a win is a win. It was quite a nice battle with good strategies on both parts.

Thank you Steve :o). And to think, that Djinn Chwalla along with the other reward cards is dirt cheap. Before he goes out of print, I will buy a few maxed cards and rent them out.
