Greetings! Welcome to my blog. Today I would like to share with the community a very interesting drawing inspired by a splinterlands character. But it's not just a drawing of the character, no, there is a story behind it.

The drawing is the one on the cover and is inspired by the character Epona, a character with a very interesting story linked to horses.

Saludos! Bienvenidos a mi blog. Hoy me gustaría compartir con la comunidad un dibujo bastante interesante inspirado en un personaje de splinterlands. Pero no es solo un dibujo del personaje, no, hay una historia detrás.

El dibujo es el de la portada y está inspirado en el personaje Epona, un personaje con una historia bastante interesante ligada a los caballos.

The art of drawing has to do with Epona and her horse. Imagine if the cute character were to lose her horses and be forced to leave the fields she loves so much. How would she feel?

That is the feeling I am trying to express in the drawing, that of Epona looking nostalgically into the distance, imagining what it would be like to go back to the fields with the horses she took care of for so long?

El arte del dibujo tiene que ver con Epona y su caballo. Imaginen al simpático personaje si llegase a perder a sus caballos y se viese obligara a alegarse de los campos que tanto le gustan. ¿Cómo se sentiría?

Esa es el sentimiento que busco expresar en el dibujo, el de Epona viendo con nostalgia a la distancia, imaginando cómo sería volver a recorrer los campos con los caballos que durante tanto tiempo cuidó...

Step by step

In addition to showing you the art itself, I will also share the step by step drawing. It was not simple to do but it was useful for me to practice drawing with shadow and using watercolors.

I started with an ordinary sheet of paper.

Paso a paso

Además de mostrarles el arte en sí, también compartiré el paso a paso del dibujo. No fue sencillo de hacer pero me sirvió para practicar el dibujo con sombra y el uso de acuarelas.

Comencé con una hoja de papel común y corriente.

With pencil in hand I began to make the initial strokes of the drawing, trying to give shape to the character's face without pressing the graphite too hard against the paper.

Con lápiz en mano comencé a hacer los trazos iniciales del dibujo, tratando de dar forma al rostro del personaje sin presionar demasiado el grafito contra el papel.

I continued with the rest of Epona's body, adding the shoulder and the outline of the hair.

Once I was clear on where everything would go, I began to add a little more detail, as well as starting to draw the bars of the window through which Epona was looking out.

Was it a prison...?

Continué con el resto del cuerpo de Epona, añadiéndole el hombro y el contorno del cabello.

Una vez que tuve claro en donde iría cada cosa, comencé a agregar un poco más de detalles, además de comenzar a dibujar los barrotes de la ventana a través de la cual miraba Epona.

¿Se trataba acaso de una prisión...?

After defining each area of the drawing, the work on the shadows began.

It is not easy, I must admit. You have to know very well which places to darken and which places not to darken, so that the drawing doesn't look messy.

I tried to do the best I could, trying to add more black in the dark areas like the eyelashes and eyebrows, also the edge of the hair, where the shadow of the hair darkens the skin a little.

That's how it was looking at this point.

Después de definir cada área del dibujo, comenzó el trabajo de las sombras.

No es fácil, debo admitir. Hay que saber muy bien qué lugares oscurecer y que lugares no, para que no quede desprolijo el dibujo.

Traté de hacerlo lo mejor que pude, tratando de agregar más negro en las áreas oscuras como las pestañas y las cejas, también el borde del pelo, donde la sombra del cabello oscurece un poco la piel.

Así iba quedando en este punto.

Remember I said I was going to use watercolors? Well, this is where I use them.

Painting with graphite alone would have been difficult, plus it wouldn't have darkened the paper enough to create the desired shadow effect on the blonde hair, so I left the edges a little light and darkened the back enough to contrast with the light edge. When the paint dried, though, I realized it was too dark....

¿Recuerdan que dije que iba a usar acuarelas? Pues bien, aquí es donde las uso.

Pintar solamente con grafito habría sido difícil, además, no se habría oscurecido lo suficiente el papel para crear el efecto deseado de sombra sobre el cabello rubio, así que dejé un poco claro los bordes y oscurecí bastante la parte trasera para que hiciera contraste con el borde claro. Aunque cuando la pintura secó, me di cuenta que quedó demasiado oscuro...

But that's how it looked, so I finished giving other finishes to the drawing and some lines with both watercolor and graphite.

In the background I used just a little black watercolor with water, wetting the brush to darken just a little the background of the bars of the supposed prison that imprisons Epona.

Pero así quedó, así que terminé de darle otros acabados al dibujo y unas líneas tanto con acuarela como con Grafito.

En el fondo usé apenas un poco de acuarela negra con agua, humedeciendo apenas el pincel para oscurecer solo un poco el fondo de los barrotes de la supuesta prisión que encarcela a Epona.

The last thing I did was to darken the bars a little more, but they didn't take too much paint, so I decided to use a little pencil to darken and outline.

Lo último que hice fue oscurecer un poco más los barrotes, pero no tomaron demasiada pintura, así que decidí usar un poco el lápiz para oscurecer y delinear.

This is how this drawing that illustrates a possible "What if" of Epona, the one I mentioned above, was finished.

De esta manera quedó terminado este dibujo que ilustra un posible "What if" de Epona, el que les comenté más arriba.

Epona is a card belonging to a Hive cryptogame, Splinterlands. This game has a lot of cards with very interesting characters that can be used to create stories, fictions, art and many more interesting things.
