For this occasion I share a rather brilliant sculpture called Unicorn Mustang. This sculpture is majestic, to call it somehow, as it represents a mythological creature that although it is well known by many for being something tender and adorable, certainly this unicorn must be very dangerous and wild.

Below you can see a comparison of the original card and the sculpture I made.

Para esta ocasión comparto una escultura bastante brillante llamara Unicorn Mustang. Esta escultura es majestuosa, por llamarla de alguna manera, pues representa a una criatura mitológica que aunque es muy conocida por muchos por ser algo tierno y adorable, ciertamente este unicornio debe ser muy peligroso y salvaje.

Step by step

I always show the step by step of my sculptures, especially this one because you may be curious about how I did to achieve the shine that the sculpture has, as it gives the appearance of having a quite shiny brown coat, so join me to find out.

The first thing I did, as I always do in this type of sculptures, is the base or the frame that will hold it.

I used materials like wire, glue, thread and aluminum foil.

Paso a paso

Siempre acostumbro a mostrar el paso a paso de mis esculturas, sobre todo el de esta pues quizás tengan curiosidad sobre cómo hice para lograr el brillo que tiene la escultura, pues da la apariencia de tener un pelaje marrón bastante brillante, así que acompáñenme para averiguarlo.

Lo primero que hice, como siempre hago en este tipo de esculturas, es la base o el armazón que la sostendrá.

Usé materiales como alambre, pegamento, hilo y papel de aluminio.

The framework was the first step, the second was to start covering the framework with the plasticine. In this case I used a rather opaque orange color, because according to the lore of the card they are called brown unicorns.

The process of covering the whole frame is slow but progressive, because you have to try to cover everything with the orange plasticine.

El armazón fue el primer paso, el segundo fue comenzar a cubrir el armazón con la plastilina. En este caso usé un color naranja bastante opaco, pues según el lore de la carta se les llama unicornios marrones.

El proceso de cubrir todo el armazon es lento pero progresivo, pues hay que tratar de cubrir todo con la plastilina naranja.

Then I molded the plasticine to create a smooth surface as close as possible to the body of a common horse. I started shaping the legs, then the back, then the neck.

Posteriormente moldeé la plastilina para crear una superficie suave lo mas parecido al cuerpo de un caballo común. Comencé dando forma a las piernas, para luego seguir con el lomo, luego el cuello.

Already at this point the unicorn was taking shape, although at the beginning the shape of the frame did not convince me at all, because I thought I had done it wrong...

But no, it was enough to start molding to realize that yes, I had done it right. See below how the figure is coming out, where I had already finished the front legs and the whole neck area.

Ya en este punto el unicornio esraba tomando forma, a pesar de que en un comienzo la forma del armazón no me convencía del todo, pues pensé que lo había hecho mal...

Pero no, solo bastó con comenzar a moldear para darme cuenta de que sí, lo había hecho bien. Vean a continuación cómo está quedando la figura, donde ya había terminado las patas delanteras y toda el área del cuello.

To make the head I made a shape similar to a pear, but a little more elongated. The thinner area of this part would be the snout of the animal, while the wider part would be the back area of the head, where the ears would go.

On the other hand, the frame had a piece of wire that would hold the horn of the beast.

Para hacer la cabeza hice una forma parecida a una pera, pero un poco mas alargada. El área mas delgada de esta parte sería el hocico del animal, mientras que la parte mas ancha sería el área trasera de la cabeza, donde irían las orejas.

Por otra parte, el armazón tenía un trozo de alambre que sostendría bien el cuerno de la bestia.

For the unicorn's hair, I noticed that it was a dark color, for this reason I decided to use a deep purple color, to contrast with the light color of the body.

At first I only placed the small pieces of hair similar to tiny bananas, to which I then made thin lines to simulate the hair strands.

Para el cabello del unicornio, me fijé que el este era de un color oscuro, por esta razón me decidí usar un color morado intenso, que hiciera contraste con el color claro del cuerpo.

En un inicio solo coloqué las pequeñas piezas de cabello parecidas a plátanos diminutos, a los que luego hice líneas delgadas para simular las hebras de cabello.

The sculpture was practically finished; now I had to paint it to make it look much better, to give it the finish it has in the cover photo.

The paint I used was silver and gold. I diluted it in water so that when painting it would be like a thin layer of frosted paint and not a thick layer of silver or gold paint.

Ya prácticamente estaba terminada la escultura; ahora bien, debía pintarla para hacerla lucir mucho mejor, para darle el acabado que tiene en la foto de portada.

La pintura que utilicé fue plateado y dorado. Esta la diluí en agua para que al pintar quedase como una fina capa de pintura escarchada y no una gruesa capa de pintura plateada o dorada.

Below you can see how the unicorn's body looks like after applying a couple of coats of this diluted silver paint; on the other hand, the purple hair was painted with some golden brushstrokes, also diluted.

A continuación pueden ver cómo quedó el cuerpo del unicornio tras aplicar un par de capas de esta pintura plateada diluida; por otra parte, el cabello morado lo pinté con algunas pinceladas de color dorado, también diluido.

The last thing I did was to work on the base. I had covered it with aluminum foil, but then I cut a piece of cardboard to make it firm. I glued it to the wire and the aluminum, then I covered it completely with plasticine.

Then with a stone I stamped this texture into the plasticine and finally I gave a few golden brushstrokes along the whole base.

Lo último que hice fue trabajar en la base. Esta la había cubierto con papel aluminio, pero luego corté un trozo de cartón para que quedara firme. Lo pegué en el alambre y el aluminio, luego lo cubrí completamente con plastilina.

Posteriormente con una piedra imprimí esta textura en la plastilina y finalmente di unas cuantas pinceladas doradas a lo largo de toda la base.

This way the figurine was finished. I leave below a series of photographs of the final result.

De esta manera la figurita quedó terminada. Dejo a continuación una serie de fotografías del resultado final
