Nobody Wants Neutral Cards Stuck on Land or Everybody's on Holiday?

avatar

It's been a week and a bit since claiming land deeds became possible in Splinterlands.

The first two territories, Pristine Northwest and Broken Lands went out relatively quickly, considering not enough details are known that may determine how good your choice was.

Without being officially confirmed, as far as I know, I believe the color-based association between splinters and territories, of which I talked about in a recent post stands.

Actually, I believe what Nate said in this week's town hall is pretty much a confirmation. He said his son wanted land in Broken Lands because he loves the Earth splinter.

If we look again at the associations, we see Broken Lands is associated with Earth:

TerritorySplinter
Pristine NorthwestLife
Broken LandsEarth
Land of ProsperityNeutral
Central FireDragon
Wild NortheastWater
Great LowlandsFire
Shimmering CoastsDeath

I was already convinced of this association, but if anyone wanted more proof...

Back to claiming deeds. For at least two days we were stuck at region 43, in the Land of Prosperity territory, which is associated with Neutral cards.

Just a short while before starting to write this post someone claimed another region, or more likely a couple of tracts, so we moved to region 44 as I write this.

Still, it's only 2 regions into the Land of Prosperity territory, and those aren't fully claimed either. In at least 2 days, but maybe even 3. I haven't had a hawk eye on them, since I'm not interested in claiming mine yet.

In my previous post on land I was talking about Dragon, and how many would be interested to stake Dragon cards (especially summoners) on land buildings. But how about neutral cards?

Yes, we have the Rusty Android that's been joked about for so long it's practically destined for land. But how about summoners?

There are no neutral summoners except Lux Vega. Yes, you could probably fill the spot in with a summoner from a splinter.

But if the splinter bonus will work as I expect, based on each slot filled with a card from the matching splinter, then on the Land of Prosperity your bonus is automatically lower because you can't use a neutral summoner. Unless you have and use Lux Vega there.

Maybe there's something I'm missing. But by the lack of desire for Land of Prosperity plots so far, it seems others may have questions too.

Or maybe it's just a slowdown for the holidays.

This leads to another question.

The way claiming was designed, sequentially, what happens if most people are waiting for territories that come later on? Do we have a blockage? How is it resolved? Just wait it out? For how long?

What if someone waits for a region in Shimmering Coasts (because he's a Death Splinter fan - just a situation) and claiming lingers forever at the territories before it? What should he do? Claim a region in a territory he doesn't want or wait and hope?

It looks like the center will go in no time. But we have to get to the center first...

Unfortunately, all signals point to a long time before we see any concrete gameplay for land. So claiming speed may not matter as much.

Maybe neutral will be any summoner.

By how the talk went about staking cards in the past, you can stake any card in there. But you only receive the splinter bonus if the splinter matches. In this case, it would be neutral. I don't know how they will treat neutral summoners, since there is only one neutral summoner in existence, and that is a promo card.

Yeah. I am thinking maybe there will be more 3 or 4 mana neutral summoners in the next release.

Hmm, Lux Vega owners wouldn't like that if that happens at all.

Thank you for sharing this. I bought my sole little Plot with almost everything I had in Hive so long ago, and have realized I have no plan at this point. I can't afford to get a second plot, so my decision-making with this one that I have needs to be "no regrets" - I also have a weak deck but was thinking I might like to lean into Dragon because it is the most fun.

Also, it is not clear to me if you can re-sell your land once you have converted it into an actual claim.

So many questions! I will need to makes sure to keep following your posts :)

You will be able to sell your land deeds, but only after they add this capability, by the looks of it in January.

Also, after revealing, which will be another step further into the development of land, the price of your plot will depend A LOT on its rarity, and if it's natural, magical or occupied.

Thanks! It will be wild coming to a valuation based on all these variables.
Sorry to ask another question, but have they issued guidance on the range of value that can come from staking on land? I suppose that will depend a lot on everything you listed already.
Going to be pretty crazy :)

No, they haven't. And even what we know so far is subject to change before they release it.

Nowhere in the universe is land sold this way. Starting at one region and working toward a final one. Could you imagine that?

“I want some land in Australia .”

“Sorry, bud, it’s a bit of a wait. We just started selling land in Alaska, so you basically have to wait until we sell all of the land in the world and then you can buy some.”

😂

It’s too bad you can just pick where you want to be.

I got mine in the first territory bc I was impatient and was hoping there would be some reason claiming earlier might be better.

I agree with you. Your analogy says it all.

They either went for this implementation because it was easier to code it this way or because they intentionally wanted to introduce a delay. To give people interested in land something to check out instead of being all over them with questions about land development.

2021 i have buy virtual lands and land price almost going down 90 present so i will decided to buy physical property. Hopefully this property price going never down. This year is not good for nfts or lands. Its my personal opinion.

Well, yeah, NFTs went to crazy prices in 2021. Not a good time to buy them.

If you see it another way, it is an excellent strategy to demand the neutral summoner, there are only a few and this will make it more valuable.

That's true. If Lux Vega will be the only summoner to offer the splinter bonus on this territory, those who claim deeds here will become interested in it. However, I believe Lux Vega might be more useful in battle than it will be staked on land.

I am surprised it is claimed like this. Why not let people pick anywhere, start with the region and then trickle down?

Yeah, that also has some drawbacks. People would rush to popular regions and whoever doesn't get them and get the ones no one wants will say it's unfair.

Do you need summoners for the land to output something? I just don't think it would be required unless you want to max things out and I don't think they would just allow Lux there. It should be any type except for dragon but that might just be my view of things.

You don't need to stake any cards. They improve productivity though. You need resources (natural and magical) and essences to mint items and spells.

You can stake any type of summoner, including Dragon. The only difference is, if the summoner is not compatible with the territory, you don't get the productivity bonus for using it (or not as high). At least that's how it was presented, and it makes sense for any other territory except Land of Productivity, which is linked to Neutral cards. Maybe they'll have different rules in this case.
