Send a Coded Message to All Rebels: Rebellion Starts in 6 Days ;-)

avatar

Why coded? That's obvious: you can't begin a rebellion and tell the Chaos Overlords you're starting it and when... 🤫 😄

If you are unfamiliar with Splinterlands, it's ok if you don't "get" the references I've made up there. But trust me, this one is virtual and nobody dies. Unlike a growing number of conflicts in the real world these days... But let's not get too serious here.

For anyone not familiar, Rebellion will be the newest core edition of cards from Splinterlands, the fifth after Alpha, Beta, Untamed, and Chaos Legion.

So, this is the Rebellion we are talking about, which will start with a 30-day or shorter presale in a little over 6 days (next Wednesday, at 18 pm UTC).

Why potentially shorter? Because there will be 500,000 packs offered during the presale, and if they are purchased sooner than 30 days, then the presale ends when the packs run out.

The general sale starts when Rebellion is launched, on December 5, under the same conditions of price and bulk bonuses as the presale, but without other presale benefits such as the 2 promo cards offered for the presale or the benefits for those who rank in top 250 who purchased the most packs.

There have been a number of changes for Rebellion compared to Chaos Legion, to avoid what time proved some decisions were wrong:

  • 10m theoretical max packs together with the presale ones, with a burn mechanics implemented from day 1 (controlled sellout period)
  • up to 5 VOUCHERs can be used per pack to reduce price by up to 20% in total
  • 5% fewer bonus packs on every tier
  • unlikely to have any other bulk deals
  • cards or packs must be held (and staked in purchasable "Battle Wagons", from where they can only be used in battle) in order to partake in airdrops

Although the DAO proposal has not reached the deadline yet, it looks like it will pass and the DAO will receive 50% of the sales proceeds; for this, it'll pay 250,000 US dollars worth of stablecoins upfront. I've talked about this before, and it seemed like nothing worth debating. In fact, the vote so far says it all: 97% in favor.

Here's the original announcement. If you are active in Splinterlands, you probably have seen it or references to it by now.

I like that Matt has realistic expectations (maybe a little on the low side given that will be for about a full year) regarding the number of packs that he is predicting as sales from Rebellion. Coming from a low bar, anything extra will give them more room to maneuver going forward.

I also like many of the details we know so far about Rebellion, which for me makes it even harder to keep my resolve. But when I started focusing on land at the beginning of this year I knew I would most likely miss pretty much all editions being released until my land-related goals are accomplished or become more relaxed. That means I won't participate in the presale, even though I'd like to. If everything goes well with my land goals next year, I may purchase some packs or specific cards then.

I think rebellion might be great, but no generation of cards will be like Chaos legion, why? The bull market played a role in how well players bought it. I just felt if there was a burn mechanism just like they'll be inculcating into rebellion, CL would have done better. 500k for presale, let's see how it turns out

Absolutely! CL had a lot going for it with the bull market in the wings and after Splinterland's explosion of new players and high expectations of new products to buy. Unfortunately, soon after the presale (or during it) the crypto market entered the bear market and the whole excitement started to fade away after a while, looking at the number of packs still unsold. Yes, a burn mechanics implemented from the start of CL would have helped a lot, and that's one of the mistakes the team recognized and tried to fix this time around (and even at the end of CL).

I'm curious about that too. CL had 2m in the presale, in two stages, and they were all sold out. But for Rebellion 500k may be high enough.

Nah... That kind of hype of hard to recreate during a bear market and with the company in survival mode. But we'll have to see what 2024 brings.

Hello @gadrian Is Rebellion game part of the Land game or part of the main Splinterlands game? Thank you. Barb !BBH !CTP

It's a set of cards, Barb. I would say it's part of the main game, but cards can be used on Land too (once it is released), except it wouldn't be advisable for those from Rebellion (they have a penalty on Land).

Oh OK @gadrian Is Rebellion a website of those who are not advised to use the cards on land? Sorry a tiny bit lost. Or is Rebellion a gateway to Hive? Thank you. !BBH !CTP

No, you'd be able to find it as a page within Splinterlands, from where you can buy packs. Nothing else. Packs contain cards, and cards can be used in the game.

If you are interested, let me know...

Updates whenever they happen are very good for the project, they are interesting, they bring back people's interest and this is where updates will have a huge effect if they are given within the bull market.

I wonder if the pre-sale will sell out or not. At least, I think I will buy 100 if I can get the funds in time. I haven't decided if I will just pull out some HBD from savings to get in on those purchases just yet though.

I don't know if it'll sell out. On one end, it's been a while since CL, and CL presales ate 2m (or was it 3m?) packs like it was nothing. But those were totally different market conditions, and even the presale doesn't entice people to buy a lot for the discount and airdrops, only to sell immediately afterwards.

It is good that they learned from previous sales/sets and have implemented adjustments. Looking at the DEC price, it seems a lot are loading up to buy in the presale.

Yep, they do while DEC is at a big discount.

I think you gave an insight to what rebellion is here
I've only heard of it but have no idea about it

I'm glad I did. Sometimes we forget there are people who don't speak Splinterlandish. 😁 We need to remember that more often.

I agree with you too, that I do see some good changes or mechanisms this time round. Probably gonna miss the presale due to timezone (sleep is more important haha) but hope all goes well.

I don't think they'll go out so quickly.

Hmm I see. Based on past presales, usually it gets sold out in minutes?

This is Splinterlands' second bear market. It was born in a bear market, but things were different then because it was very small and it just launched. So, CL was launched in the bull market and sold throughout the bear market. Rebellion is the first "modern" edition pre-sold in the bear market. That's why I think it will take more than a few minutes to sell out. But I may be wrong. There are presale incentives that some big spenders may really want.
