The Waiting Prolongues by 2 More Weeks

As someone invested in land on Splinterlands, and talking about land quite often, I feel, like most of my landholder mates, disappointed by the new delay in releasing Land 1.5.

The decision was made after discovering some potential attack vectors to the game economy by crafting the "right" transactions (custom JSONs), that needed urgent fixing before the game went live.

From my understanding, after listening to the Town Square with Matt, most of these critical issues were fixed by the time he went on air, but either there was still something left that was critical enough, or they weren't comfortable doing the release without a proper testing period after these changes.

Either way, despite the disappointment of yet another delay, if I were in their shoes, I would have done the same. Since Thanksgiving is next week for those celebrating it, including many of the Splinterlands team, the release was pushed back by 2 weeks to November 28th.

As a content creator who writes about Splinterlands and the Land Expansion every once in a while, I don't feel comfortable saying the thing is going to be released at a date only to show up the next day to say something else. Even when they have justified reasons, it can't be easy for them to show up with this kind of message and take the heat and sometimes see some support for their actions but still feel everyone's disappointment (including their own, I suppose).

I don't know if this will make sense to you, but even if I wasn't fully prepared for Land 1.5 to be released today, I was ready and excited.

To be honest, I believe the more prepared you are when the game starts, the fewer things you'll have to do after a while, and you will get bored sooner of Land 1.5.

If you are not fully prepared, then you still need to unlock plots and get better workers well after the release, and that keeps you active and with a goal, other than harvesting rewards and eventually putting them into the (future) LP.

I guess on November 28th we'll all be a little more prepared.

It'll also be around the time when Rebellion will become available on the Mavs test server, a week before Rebellion launch, and probably around the date when the Land 2.0 draft will be published.

If things remain set in stone, we'll have a busy schedule at the end of November, and the beginning of December, just considering Splinterlands...

The decision was understandable. It was just unfortunate that it was decided on the last minute. From reading the discord replies of some team members, it seems most bugs are easy enough to fix, and have little effects like UI related. It is just that when they fix one, another one pops up after.

Yeah, that's why there was needed more testing time to reach a more stable situation. It's unfortunate the period overlaps with the Thanksgiving period, otherwise, probably next week would have been a good time to release it.

It's just two weeks but I am a bit worried about them not being able to keep deadlines. I wonder if it's better to just say that it should be released when there are no major breaking bugs within some time period. I do understand that releasing things broken isn't the best though but I just think that they should debug and then mention a final date after the debugging is at a good enough state.

They said that, but discovered (or were reported) these critical issues over the weekend. The problem in software development is you rarely if ever have a bug-free product. The more complex the program, the higher the chance of discovering a bug after it gets used by more people on different devices and contexts.

This is very wrong. People have already been waiting for a long time and now things inside the project are deteriorating. This is not the way the team should do it. These people are theirs..They will stop playing the games when the interest is lost. .

Sometimes things happen that need to be fixed and it wouldn't make sense to launch the game knowing it has vulnerabilities. Timing isn't great and people were excited to get started, but we'll get past another disappointment if the game runs smoothly when it launches.
