Playability, tokenomics & the quest for new players

Last Friday, as I strolled past one of the local card gaming stores in my neighborhood, I couldn't help but notice the bustling crowd of players engrossed in their physical card games. It seemed as though there was an air of excitement in the store, which could possibly be attributed to the recent launch of a new extension for Magic: The Gathering. This observation sparked a question in my mind: How does the popularity of these physical card games compare to the online gaming world? Specifically, how many players does Splinterlands, a renowned online game, boast?

Estimating the player count of Splinterlands seems to be a topic of much speculation. Some suggest there could be around 30,000 active accounts, while others argue that multiple accounts must be taken into consideration, potentially bringing the number of active players down to 5,000 or 10,000. Furthermore, even within this estimated range, it raises another question: How many of these players actively engage in their own bidding and trading within the game?

Recognizing the recent satisfaction of the game's demand, the Splinterlands team has been dedicating considerable attention to refining the tokenomics of the platform. This focus is evident in their impressive burn of nearly $500,000 worth of assets, a clear testament to the strength of their fan base. However, concerns about the game's economic stability, coupled with the looming costs of server maintenance, have prompted the team to implement additional rules aimed at reducing potential gaming advantages. It's worth noting that triggering increased demand for in-game assets could significantly enhance their long-term value.

As an avid player and dedicated member of the Splinterlands community, I would like to present some proposals that aim to elevate the gaming experience, both in the real world and through a user-friendly mobile app. Implementing these ideas will not only strengthen the player base but also offer new avenues for engagement and enjoyment.

Physical Card Game Integration:

Collaboration with physical card game manufacturers, such as Mindbug Card Games, to develop official Splinterlands physical card game sets. This would provide an opportunity for players to engage with the game in a tangible, face-to-face environment.
Organizing physical card game tournaments and events that mirror the online gameplay, allowing players to experience the excitement of competitive play outside the digital realm.
Offering cross-platform rewards and exclusive in-game bonuses for players who participate in both the online and physical card game versions of Splinterlands, promoting synergy and fostering a strong sense of community.

User-Friendly Mobile App:

Development of a dedicated mobile app that provides a seamless and immersive gaming experience on smartphones and tablets. The app should be optimized for various screen sizes and operating systems.
Intuitive and user-friendly interface design, making it easy for both new and existing players to navigate and enjoy the game on mobile devices, especially when selecting the team.
Implementation of incentives, such as daily login rewards (+2 energy), achievements, and milestone bonuses, to encourage regular engagement and foster long-term player loyalty on the mobile platform.

Integration of Social Features:

Incorporation of social features within the mobile app, including chat functionality, friend lists, and the ability to challenge and interact with friends. These features will enable players to connect and build relationships within the Splinterlands community, regardless of whether they're engaging in the physical or digital version of the game.
Integration of social media sharing options directly within the mobile app, allowing players to easily showcase their in-game accomplishments and attract new players to Splinterlands.

By expanding Splinterlands into the realm of physical card games and offering a user-friendly mobile app, we can tap into new markets and provide existing players with exciting opportunities to enjoy the game in different ways. These initiatives will not only enhance player engagement but also strengthen the Splinterlands brand as a leader in the gaming industry.

I am enthusiastic about the potential of these proposals and would be thrilled to contribute further to their development and implementation. Thank you for considering these suggestions, and I look forward to witnessing the continued growth and success of Splinterlands.

Sincerely,
The General
