People of the Hive communities, @sketchbook community and others, I bring pack loaded of blissful greetings to everyone reading this because this work right here boosted my confidence in portrait work.

This is my first portrait art since I started my art brand online. And it came as little commissary work from a friend from the street who is an artist and he chose the picture and request for the artwork in jpeg because he doesn’t have much. He gave me 5,500 Nigerian naira. (Ooops I didn’t tell anyone that ) I just did for the fact that I used to have a little fear getting it perfectly right or so in me so I pounced on it.

Me dio 5.500 naira nigeriana.

I know I could do it especially because it’s a side view. There is no much skin details from the picture as it’s been edited already so I decided that I must do a very good work more than the price to boost my confidence and I even finish sketching before getting any deposit from him.

It took me roughly 2 weeks, because I only do few hours a day, Monday - Friday and I don’t want to rush it.

So, great Hivers here is how I came up with this artwork here

Process/proceso

On my grid paper, I started sketching out the face with 6h pencil, starting from the dreaded hair, down to the eyes, nose, mouth, I map out the position of the ear and drew it right there till I made the completed sketch of the whole picture.

After that I cleaned up the grid lines and started toning and shading as I add more details to the drawing. With my general charcoal pencil, I sketched out well the brows, eye lid some part of the ear was done and also I made the beards with it in scribbles.
————————————————————————

I shade by using a small size Artist brush and charcoal dust from filing my pencil. I had to do it how I saw it esp the dark side at the back so I just followed suit. And I did the tiny fade facial hair with 6b and blend lightly and I made the little skin lines on the neck that I could see and used monozero eraser cleaned the line out leaving only and inscription
————————————————————

Now I moved to the hair. I Did it with the general charcoal pencil in tiny scribbles, and I used the mechanical pencil to add little lingering strands around the locks. Also the low cut on the scalp, I used 6b to make the hairs, highlights with monozero eraser and kneaded eraser. After which of course I blend well with tissue paper. And last for the hairstyle, I didn’t forget to add the little shadows of the dreadlocks on the scalp with brush and dust.
———————————————————————

Onto the cloth, here I just did some design that I could think of because I really don’t a have a clue as to how to go about what he is actually wearing on the paper. So I just tried my best with something that could look similar lol. Does it?? I’m not sure.
I made folding lines first , then shade normally and blend. And then I started using the monozero eraser to add spotlight on the it. At first here it was somehow odd to me but when I replicate the process for the hand I tried making a sequence of it at each point and I like ut better there.

No estoy seguro.
Primero hice líneas plegables, luego sombreo normalmente y mezclo.

And last but not the least the hands, shaded as usual with brush and charcoal dust, blend well and added little darker tones. I used the monozero eraser to highlight spots around the fingers. And used the 6b pencil to shaded the lighter in his hands flame. And then I was done. I hope I did good? Please I’ll like to get reviews from here. Thank you very much.

Muchas gracias.
