# What's Happening in Rentals? - Splinter Stats Season 62 Report Card

This season was decent but it's left me a bit worried about the health of the rental market for card owners. But more on that later.

One of the cool things about this report is that I can look back on the last report I blogged about and see how I've changed against the field. Since I'm a pretty boring player and don't change up my teams much though, I can say the people in the silver leagues have improved this season.

Last season I had a 1.51 win rating compared to a 1.18 this time around. I think this comes down to one night where I was determined to finish my quest and I just couldn't win a game. Every match seemed like my opponent had the perfect counter no matter what I played and I was losing 5 games to 1. Usually when that happens I walk away but I was tired and dumb and almost knocked myself back down to bronze trying to win lol.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt though that this season was harder. I start in Bronze 1 usually and try to get to gold 3 and it took 12 days to get there while it took just a few days the last two seasons.

I went into this season thinking it was tine for me to snag a legendary card as its been several months but no such luck. I did get 3 epics and a gold rare worth about $20 so not all bad.

I also did take matter into my own hands a bit. After buying a Splitnerlands NFT of DJINN OShannus with only 50 mints, I decided it felt wrong to not have a copy of the card to play so I bought it. So even though I didn't get it the way I wanted it, I did acquire one legendary rewards card this season :)

Overall my rewards for this last season were substantially worse than the season before coming in at 5439 for 138 wins vs a much larger 9067 for a much smaller 101 wins. The moral of the story is it pays to move up the ranks early in the season.

Rentals are my bread and butter. This season though it really felt like my bread was a little stale. While the numbers were comparable from one season to the next, the only reason why is because For the first 5 days of last season I was moving and so I couldn't manage it and 2/3rds of my deck sat unrented.

This season I was on it all season and I couldn't get anything going. Prices are collapsing and I don't see any way to turn it around in the near term. There's simply way more inventory on the market than there are renters so the only way to get your stuff rented is to continually lower your price below the last person who lowered theirs.

Because cards have no additional cost once you own then, there are no administrative costs, and no wear and tear on digital assets, there is no actual floor on rental prices except .1 dec. That's where so many cards have already dropped to and where the rest are quickly going.

It may already be happening as the price ramp in cards recently stagnated and turned down but at some point people will stop buying because they aren't profitable and start selling. That could lead to a painful downward spiral in the game. Devs need to work some magic here and get player growth back on track, especially now that we have 75 million cards coming online and no player growth in 2 months.

SPS was a bright spot for me. I started using the hive/DEC and SPS/DEC liquidity pools and it really sent my airdrop points much higher when prior to that my airdrop was decreasing. 3972.865 last season vs 4151.432 this season.

I think SPS is going to be the key to Splinterlands going forward so building my stake and not selling any at all is imperative to me. Also, with MANA and AXIE and even HIVE running up, I think SPS is well positioned for a run to probably $1.50-$2 in the next few months. Especially since I think Splinterlands is probably setting itself up to be its own Metaverse with land and stories and NFTs. It's all leading somewhere and this team has vision.

So another season in the books and more twists and turns and good and bad in the Land of Splinters. I think over this next season my goals will be to get to Gold 3/Silver 1 much faster and also just write more about the game and my investments in it.
