Hello Splinterforge Fam! I'm jadedaniel / danieljade, a casual silver league player sharing some tips on making your team based on the boss ability. This is my first ever Splinterforge post and I am trying share my experience and knowledge and hoping to make an in-depth tips and tutorials about the game. And if you are new to the game, I suggest to try and read this first: Splinterforge gitbook user guide to have the basic introduction about the game.

Ill be attacking the silver boss as it has the Scattershot ability. As you all know Silver boss has 2 base ability and one random ability. It also has the Forcefield Ability. It is the active boss as I'm writing this post so to speak. Lets get started.

Boss's Attacks hit a random enemy target.

With Scattershot ruleset, I dont use taunt ability monsters as it is useless because scattershot bypasses taunt and as the description entails, it attacks a random monster. If you are a splinterlands player, you may have known the summoner Lily shieldpaw. Unlike in splinterlands, Lily's Camouflage skill works againts bosses and makes them attacks the first monsters in your team so its my best choice summoner in this ruleset.

forcefield.png

Boss takes half damage (rounded down) from attacks with power +5

We dont have much firepower with this ruleset as it limits our max damage to 4, be it melee, range or magic.

First we need to think of a team consisting of 2 summoners and 7 monsters that can survive longer and deal decent damage to the given ruleset at the same time. Here some important things you may need to consider before creating your team:

  • Speed Tuning - As I called it, you may want to match your team speed with the boss. the timing of the attack turns is crucial to sustain your tank. You may want to make your healer and armor repair monsters to be exact or faster than the boss.
Also take note that speed is normalized to use a turn meter type system, faster characters will attack more often instead of everyone attacking every turn
  • Sustain - Your main tank need to be alive as much longer as possible even if the boss enters enrage. Usually needs 2 healers and 1 armor repair.

  • Reroll - If the rules dont favor your team, you can just reroll it but it will cost you some forgium. I know some players who dont use reroll and find ways to overcome it, but for me if you want to go for the leaderboard and get a good LB reward, you just need to reroll so you can deal more damage.

In my case, I dont usually think of the random ability of the boss as we can reroll it and I try to get the deathblow ability when testing my team as it is like a free ruleset.

If you are playing splinterforge long time, you may have noticed that most of players used Jacek as the summoner. Jacek gives our team +2 speed, Scattershot ability which is kinda useless as its just the boss we are attacking. But the most important ability he gives is "Piercing". In Splinterforge, there are some abilities that dont work as normal and is replaced with a 1.5x damaged instead but it does not stack. Here are some of the abilities:

1.5.png

After choosing the 2 summoners, Next thing to consider is who will be your main tank? Theres a lot of monster to choose like "The Kraken", "Agor Longtail", etc. but first monster that comes to my mind in scattershot ruleset is Runemancer Kye as a tank . With a decent health pool, life leech and armor, Kye can sustain the team.

Next is we need 1 healer and 1 armor repair to sustain the tank. Crystalsmith is my to go monster with her 3 speed. As for armor repair monster, Swamp Spitter and lone boatman is my choice but you can also use Scavo hireling and Adelaide Brightwing.

Next monster I consider fielding is Arkemis the Bear, with protect and halving ability it can give a lot of sustain in our team. Also he got 3 attack damage which is perfect for the forcefield ability of boss.

Now lets try to have Swift or Slow monsters to tune in our speed with the boss. Lets try to pick Sinash and Ruler of the seas as they both are perfect for it. Then lets try to have our main damage dealer. Most of the time I choose a double attack type monsters such as axe master and The Vigilator.

My tip is going to Peakmonsters and head to rental cards and search for the abilities to have better choices. And also dont forget to set the level in which league you want to attack.

As you can see, Main tank is Kye. With Lily's buff and camouflage ability, Kye will have 9 hp and will be target of the boss. This is where "speed tuning" is important. Without swift ability, Kye speed will just be 3(base) + 2(from jacek) totalling of 5. Imagine the battle in your head and you can visualize that the boss will attack first because it has 7 speed, And your other monsters with abilities like heals and armor repair will fall behind in terms of turns.

Strategically we include swifts in our team and Kye will attack first before boss as we have speed tuned it now. She will life leech 2 hp making her max hp to 11 and with the help of repair and heals she can sustain the damage and will not die in the first round. If lucky, boss will be inflicted with halving by the bear and will make the magic damage of boss down to 2.

round3.png

Round 2 start and Kye attacks and life leech again bringing her to 13 max hp now. With armor repair, the boss 6 melee damage will be offset and will only deal magic damage and range, so if inflicted by halving, 2 magic damage and 5 range damage will be inflicted to kye. By then Crystalsmith and Lily's heals will be huge. Notice that in round 3 that the heal kye receives from Lily is a juicy 5hp! not to mention there's still crystalsmith readying her heal also. At this point, Kye is unkillable until the boss enters the enrage mode in the 11th round. and every 2 rounds the boss will be enrage again adding the boss stats damages and speed.

enrage.png

Let's be honest, we dont watch the battles and see the battle logs and just hit the "skip to reward" button. But it's always helpful to review the logs sometimes especially when your damage is low or not within your expectation. See what round your main tank survives and if it survive after a few enrage rounds.

I managed to deal 3.6k damage and earn almost 70 forgium, electrum and xp which is a decent damage in my opinion.
