Chaos is upon us!

In about half a day, the Chaos Legion expansion will be unleashed on Splinterlands. I know all of us are aching to open our pre-sale CL packs. But I'm tiding down my excitement for a few hours to complete this week's Battle Challenge.

Death's Anti Magic Corps

Now that I've somewhat tempered my Chaos Legion hype, let's take a look at this week's featured Monster card -- Animated Corpse.

Death Splinter has always been my favorite team. In the Gold Leagues, I often heavily rely on the "Toxic Triad" -- Haunted Spider, Skeleton Assassin, and Venari Bonesmith. With these three, it's like Poison is almost a guarantee. And it's quite convenient that all these only have three or four mana costs.

Yet again I'm dubbing another dependable specialized squad on Death Splinter -- the "Anti-Magic Corps". As the name suggests, it's a team of monsters meant to counter magic-heavy opponents.

At the forefront is the melee tank with Void (an ability that halves all magic damage). You can use either Bone Golem or Animated Corpse for this, but since Animated Corpse is this week's featured card, I'm going to battle with this monster.

Bone Golem

At the back, have as many monsters with Silence skill as you can. It's one of the few skills that stack up, so each card owning that skill nerfs your opponent's magic attack by one.

Phantom Soldier
Death Elemental

I've got all the cards I need for this quest except for a sufficiently-leveled Death Elemental. So I'm specifically renting a Level 4 card for my experiment. And note that I'm battling on the Silver Leagues so I'm only talking about monster skills that a level 4 Summoner can unlock.

Anti Magic Corps In Action

I would have preferred to face off against a summoner with a +1 Magic buff to better showcase how strong a counter-force this squad is for Magic opponents. However, I still got a chance to duke it out against Djinn Oshannus. And this Legendary Magic card was often a massive headache to deal with, so testing out this anti-magic team against Djinn was something I thought was show-worthy enough.

After the debuffs were applied, we now have my opponent's magic attacks reduced to one. And since I got two monsters with Silence skill, it wouldn't have made a difference if my opponent had a Magic attack buff. All their monsters' magic attacks will still end up to one.

We all know how a one-magic attack fares on monsters with Void skill. The attack is 100% neutralized and does no damage at all. I expected this to happen as I was building up my anti-magic team ... but I'm quite tickled that the one dealing this zero damage is no other than the legendary, Djinn Oshannnus.

With strong magic attackers like Djinn Oshannus, Mischievous Mermaid and Dwarven Wizard incapacitated, the battle was easily won.

To End

Is Animated Corpse a good card to play? Yes. Its Void skill synergizes extremely well with Silence. A favorable combo that's not hard to come by in Death Splinter teams. Although, you might find a better all-rounder tank that works with an anti-magic setup too in Haunted Spirit. It has Magic Reflect and Self Heal skills. So maybe ... if I'm mostly certain I'm squaring off against a magic-only team, I'll go with Animated Corpse as the tank. But if not, I'll probably go with Haunted Spirit. Its Self Heal skill and stronger attack make it a safer bet for most battles.

that is such a great way to build an anti magic team and although I am in the bronze league only but I come across magic comp teams and they just shred through the light teams I sometimes use for daily quests.

I am also partial to the Death element as I usually have a Haunted Spirit as my all around tank.

I feel you. Battling in Bronze league against Magic-heavy opponents feels hopeless. Then there's also that Earth's Llama + Kron combo which is high magic too. It's really hard to fight against those teams on Level 2 summoner cap. On Silver, we at least get these Void and Silence skills to counter them.

Yeah, Haunted Spirit is one of the best cards there is! haha.
