For my modest work, I was inspired by the Splinterlands game card called "Medusa". I really liked it when I saw it, because, despite being considered a monster associated with evil, it has a sad story behind it. I firmly believe that we should not judge someone (or something) based on first impressions alone.

The first step for this drawing was to find the material where I was going to make it. I used a white sheet of paper (21.6cm x 27.9cm). I started drawing with a pencil and then used a black ink pen to highlight the outlines and make the drawing stand out. Finally, I used some colored pencils, which I "borrowed" from my daughter without her noticing (🤫¡shh!), to embellish the painting a bit, especially the sky.

Yo amo las artes plásticas, y me gusta mucho disfrutar de las pinturas y manualidades de los demás, ya que me considero bastante amateur en esto de dibujar, pero decidí atreverme a hacerlo, y en esta publicación les muestro mi dibujo el cual realice para participar en el Concurso de Splinterlands #266

Para mi modesta obra, me inspiré en la carta del juego de Splinterlands llamada "Medusa" . Me gustó mucho cuando la vi, ya que, a pesar de ser considerada un monstruo asociado con la maldad, tiene una historia triste detrás. Creo firmemente que no debemos juzgar a alguien (o algo) basándonos únicamente en la primera impresión.

El primer paso para este dibujo fue buscar el material dónde lo iba a realizar. Utilicé una hoja blanca de tamaño carta (21.6cm x 27.9cm). Comencé a dibujar con un lápiz y luego utilicé un bolígrafo de tinta negra para resaltar los contornos y hacer que el dibujo se destacara. Por último, utilicé algunos lápices de colores, que "tomé prestados" de mi hija sin que se diera cuenta (🤫¡shh!), para embellecer un poco la pintura, sobre todo el cielo.

Medusa was a monster that turned to stone anyone who dared to look her in the eye. Despite her ferocious appearance, she was a creature of great beauty. The highlight of her appearance was her head, covered with countless snakes instead of hair. The most difficult thing for me to do was to depict the snakes on her head in an abundant and movement-inducing manner - I had never painted so many snakes together before!

Before becoming the monster we know, Medusa was a priestess of the temple of Athena. She was famous for her incomparable beauty, which attracted the attention of the god Poseidon, to the point that she was raped by him. In response to this brutal act, the goddess Athena unjustly unleashed her fury on Medusa and transformed her into the mythological creature we know.

In many depictions, including the Splinterlands card, her body is depicted with a large snake tail, so I wanted to draw her with this same feature. Here I was indecisive, as I first started by making the tail for the left side of the sheet, but then I didn't like how it looked, and I wanted to modify it, so I erased it and drew it on the opposite side.

Medusa era un monstruo que convertía en piedra a cualquiera que se atreviera a mirarla a los ojos. A pesar de su aspecto feroz, era una criatura de gran belleza. Lo más destacado de su apariencia era su cabeza, cubierta de innumerables serpientes en lugar de cabello. Lo más difícil de realizar para mí, fue representar las serpientes en su cabeza de manera abundante y que provocara aspecto de movimiento. ¡Nunca antes había pintado tantas serpientes juntas!

Antes de convertirse en el monstruo que conocemos, Medusa fue una sacerdotisa del templo de Atenea. Era famosa por su incomparable belleza, lo cual atrajo la atención del Dios Poseidón, al punto de que fue violada por él. En respuesta a este acto brutal, la diosa Atenea descargó injustamente su furia sobre Medusa y la transformó en la criatura mitológica que conocemos.

En muchas representaciones, incluyendo la carta de Splinterlands, su cuerpo está representado con una gran cola de serpiente, por eso quise dibujarla con esta misma característica. Aquí estuve indecisa, ya que primero comencé haciendo la cola para el lado izquierdo de la hoja, pero después no me gustó cómo se veía, y quise modificarla, así que la borré y la dibujé en el lado opuesto.

Medusa is a character from Greek mythology, so to finish, I wanted to recreate an atmosphere that reflected this era. The columns seemed to me to be the distinctive touch, as we all recognise Greek temples by them. I also wanted to paint her with sword and shield, not in an act of aggression, but to defend herself, as we all know the myth, and how in the end she is beheaded by the hero Perseus.

La Medusa, es un personaje de la mitología griega, por tanto, para finalizar, quise recrear un ambiente que reflejara esta época. Las columnas me parecieron el toque distintivo, ya que todos reconocemos los templos griegos por ellas. También quise pintarla con espada y escudo, no en un acto de agresión, sino para defenderse, ya que todos conocemos el mito, y como al final es decapitada por el héroe Perseo.
