Greetings to all Art lovers

In this post, I want to share my FanArt inspired by one of the cards from the Splinterland game, and it is a Sea Monster. This time I not only drew it in pencil, but I also wanted to experiment by digitizing some parts of the drawing in Photoshop to achieve a more striking effect.

En esta publicación, quiero compartir mi FanArt inspirado en una de las cartas del juego de Splinterland, y se trata de un Monstruo Marino. Esta vez no solo lo dibujé a lápiz, sino que también quise experimentar digitalizando algunas partes del dibujo en Photoshop para lograr un efecto más llamativo.

I just started a digital Adobe Photoshop course, I find it a very useful tool to make cool stuff. So, I wanted to take advantage and use my original drawing to practice some things, like the different blending layer options, the brush and gradient tool, as well as some options related to image adjustments and some filters.

To start this Sea Monster drawing, I used a sheet of white letter size paper and a black graphite pencil. Since this is a water monster, I drew it as if it were emerging from the sea. It must be terrifying to be out at sea and see this monstrous creature. For that reason, the unfortunate boat that encounters this monster is empty. I think its occupant decided to jump into the sea before facing this creature.

Recién comencé un curso digital de Adobe Photoshop, me parece una herramienta muy útil para realizar cosas geniales. Por eso, quise aprovechar y utilizar mi dibujo original para practicar algunas cosas, como las diferentes opciones de capa de fusión, la herramienta de pincel y degradado, así como algunas opciones relacionadas con los ajustes de imagen y algunos filtros.

Para comenzar este dibujo del Monstruo Marino, utilicé una hoja de papel blanco tamaño carta y un lápiz de grafito negro. Como este es un monstruo de agua, lo dibujé como si estuviera emergiendo del mar. Debe ser aterrador estar en alta mar y ver a esta criatura monstruosa. Por esa razón, el desafortunado bote que se encuentra con este monstruo está vacío. Creo que su ocupante decidió lanzarse al mar antes de enfrentarse a esta criatura.

When I finished the drawing, I saved the image on my PC and opened it in Photoshop. The first thing I did was to crop it a bit, and framed it. I added a gradient fill layer and started experimenting a bit. I chose the background color and started drawing on the Sea Monster image with the brush, outlining the edges, changing the size and hardness of the brush, and using various shades of blue. I did the same with the sea, drawing some much darker shades of blue.

Then I changed the blending modes, until I got a result I liked. I also applied some noise using the different filter options. Finally, in the image settings, I increased a little the brightness, contrast and modified the exposure level. Attached are some images of this digital process.

Al terminar el dibujo, guardé la imagen en mi PC y la abrí en Photoshop. Lo primero que hice fue recortarlo un poco, y lo enmarqué. Añadí una capa de relleno con degradado y comencé a experimentar un poco. Escogí el color de fondo y empecé a dibujar en la imagen del Monstruo Marino con el pincel, delineando los bordes, cambiando el tamaño y la dureza del pincel, y utilizando varios tonos de azul. Hice lo mismo con el mar, dibujando algunos tonos de azul mucho más oscuros.

Después cambie los modos de fusión, hasta lograr un resultado que me gustara. También apliqué un poco de ruido a mediante las diferentes opciones de filtro. Por último, en los ajustes de la imagen, aumenté un poco el brillo, el contraste y modifiqué el nivel de exposición. Adjunto algunas imágenes de este proceso digital.

And that's how it finally turned out. Although I liked the result, at first I hesitated whether to publish it or not, but I got convinced. It was a work to which I dedicated time and that served me to test some tools. So, why not share it?

Y así quedó finalmente. Aunque me gustó el resultado, al principio dudé si publicarlo o no, pero me convencí. Fue un trabajo al que le dediqué tiempo y que me sirvió para probar algunas herramientas. Así que, ¿por qué no compartirlo?
