BEST WAY TO ACCUMULATE CHAOS LEGION CARDS!

avatar

What's the best way to accumulate Chaos Legion cards?

  • Packs from Splinterlands?
  • Tokens off HIVE marketplace?
  • Individual cards?

I'll explain my analysis - coming up!

Youtube Thumbnail FINAL.png

As of this video creation, we are just over the 7.5 MILLION Chaos Legion packs sold! That's HALF way through the 15 Million total packs available! I think that's incredible for the game. While many folks before the presale started thought that the 15 million packs would sell out as early as the first day or the first month, I referenced a more likely timeline at around the 6 month mark. Although the day-to-day right now seems slower than 6 months, I DO believe there will be a panic and fear of missing out as we get closer to the 80% sold mark.

There are three main ways to accumulate Chaos Legion cards right now. To fully understand the pros and cons of each method, we'll look at costs as well as potential additional benefits! The first, and most straight forward, is through Splinterlands! You can buy Chaos legion packs for $4 each, and if you buy in bulk and have vouchers available, you can accumulate a few bonus packs along the way! Here are a few things to consider when making purchases through Splinterlands.com!

Screenshot 2022-02-24 203223.png

The first consideration is using affiliate accounts to make the purchase. Splinterlands referral program gives back 5% of credits spent on summoner spellbooks and packs by accounts that use your referral link! Hopefully, if you are making large credit purchases, you've already set up a dummy referral account, but if not, I would highly suggest doing so! OR if you'd prefer to help me on MY journey, feel free to use MY referral account: JosieB!

Next consideration is bulk purchases. As I was recording the video, vouchers were ranging from $2.00 to $2.40. If you purchase 100 packs, you're able to get 10% more packs from vouchers! If we assume that vouchers are at $2.20, the math will give you 110 packs for $422. Take 5% off for the $400 spent from the affiliate program, and you're buying each pack for $3.65! If you happen to have the capital to buy 2000 packs and 400 vouchers, the math finishes at $3.53 PER pack!

The last part to consider is AIRDROP points that go towards future legendary Chaos Legion airdrops! Depending on where you speculate the value of these airdrops to be, you can tack on around $0.25 PER pack of value!

The second would be through a secondary market. In the secondary market, you are buying Chaos Legion packs as tokens, likely through the HIVE-Engine network.

This method is quite straight-forward. The biggest hurdle is to get the right tokens in the right wallets to interact with the HIVE network. If you have any questions on this, feel free to post a comment below, and I will get back to you!

The third method would be by purchasing individual cards through Splinterlands or third party sites like peakmonsters or monster market. This way, you're able to build up individual splinters and actually pick and choose cards that you care for.

When buying individual cards, make sure to use Splintercards.com to check on the market price for cards, and compare them to the market for CHAOS packs to see if prices are currently inflated or deflated!

To wrap things up, here are the three key take-aways:

**ONE **- buy packs off splinterlands.com if you value future airdrops.
**TWO **- buy packs off the secondary market if you are simply looking for chaos legion cards.
**THREE **- buy individual cards if you are looking to build up specific splinters and/or upgrade specific cards.

At the end of the day, the actual values calculated across these three markets are pretty equal - this is why nft games are so amazing - there is a free market that balances out all areas

Thanks for this great summary! So far I was always buying cards/packs in my main account - mostly with credits. But you are definitely right. It does make a lot more sense to do it in an alt account or support a great content creator like yourself!

I think it is a different story if you are buying cards with your in-game DEC, since this won't count.

Thanks for the awesome advice! And keep up the great work!

Cheers,
@andy-plays

Depending on the extent of credits you're purchasing, I think it's 100% worth setting up an affiliate account! I decided to make a purchase of 1800 Chaos Legion packs, and was an affiliate to my husband's account, so he was able to receive a good chunk of credits to spend on individual cards!

Yeah, that makes sense! Wow, for 1800 packs I would really think that it does make a lot of sense!
Great idea!

Wow, love your advise in buying packs using a dummy account. I've been doing that even when buying single card. That 5% is a bit smaller for now, but as you accumulate, it will be enough to buy a new card or even a chaos legion pack.

Yes!! 5% adds up - especially if you're in it for the long run!

Nice summary as @andy-plays mentioned. The one piece I think worth mentioning/adding would be 'waiting until the AirDrop ends' to stock up or grab those fewer more expensive CL cards on your wish list. I suspect many more packs will be cracked open and enter the market if they are no longer providing AirDrop points. I will use that opportunity to jump up a league, hopefully. Still a more than a few months between now and then. Lot can happen. Will share this on Splinterlands Digest Twitter.

That's so true. When SPS airdrops end, I bet that people will start cracking packs left and right. I'm hoping the cards that we currently have don't lose TOO much value!

Hi @josieb,
As everybody mentioned, thank you for the "dummy account" tip! I knew it would give 5% back in credits while buying the spellbook, but I didn't know it about the packs! Does the 5% "cashback" work for any purchase within the game?! Thank you for your help.

You're welcome! I'm not sure if it works for ANY purchases within the game, but I know for a fact that it works with purchasing potions and packs with CREDITs. I don't believe DEC purchases do anything!

That is an awesome analysis, currently I am trying to build up certain splinters and have been doing a combination of buying individual cards, packs, and rentals.

That's awesome! I'm a fan of owning cards once I try them out through rental - but it's all up to your available capital!
