BATTLE MAGE SECRETS : MELEE MAYHEM RULESET

Cover Template Battle Mage.png

Rather than restrict the ordinary battle rules, Melee Mayhem open loosen the rules by allowing melee cards to attack from position other than front row. It does meant a lot because now a complete melee cards formation could deliver their full damage without need for Reach, Opportunity, or Sneak. But one thing to remember, the attack will only be directed toward the front row; which means they will be prone to being trapped by card with Shield or Thorns ability. So let's take a further look into this ruleset.

Pros & Cons

Pros.png
Cons.png
1. Some powerful Tanker card could contribute to damage while they reserve themself as secondary Tanker.
1. As mentioned early, this ruleset could create a trap that backfire on ourself. Professional players might predict their opponent to utilize full melee cards formation. They will counter with high speed formation, a full magic cards formation, or deploying cards which possessed abilities which counter the basic melee attacks.
2. Several Tanker possessed Support ability which are too valuable for them being targeted in the front row. This rulest will eliminate the dilemma of having idle Tanker just to maintain the supportive ability and placing them in front row but risk of being eliminated early.

Best Cards To Use.gif

Best Cards To Use

Deploying cards with Thorns and amplified with Amplify should be the best strategy. It will return damage every incoming attack to the first row. Venari Heatsmith is one of the best choice.

Deploying cards with Thorns and Shield also a good alternative. Cards like Dumacke Orc and Living lava are both will return the damage greater than sustained (Dumacke Orc could even deal double counter through Thorns and Retaliate).

The battle has 12 mana cap, with Melee Mayhem as the rulesets; while only Fire and Water Splinters are excluded from being used. For my formation, I used:

PositionCard NameLevelManaHealthArmorSpeedDamage TypeDamage
SummonerThaddius Brood24-----
1st RowCursed Windeku2610-3Melee2
2nd RowCorpse Fiend102-2Melee1
3rd RowCursed Slimeball101-1Melee1
4th RowCarrion Shade312-2Melee1
5th Row--------
6th Row--------

My opponent formation:

PositionCard NameLevelManaHealthArmorSpeedDamage TypeDamage
SummonerThaddius Brood24-----
1st RowCrypt Beetle33222Melee1
2nd RowRevealer245-2Magic1
3rd RowCarrion Shade312-2Melee1
4th Row--------
5th Row--------
6th Row--------
We both engaged with the same Splinter and summoner so basically both of us will be drowned in health debuff and damage debuff. I decided to pull Cursed Windeku as its important to have powerful `Tanker`. But with 2 mana left, I have no choice but to take 1 mana melee cards for the rear row. There will be Corpse Fiend, Cursed Slimeball, and Carrion Shade. At lest all of them are melee which will contribute to damage due to Melee Mayhem. My only concern was that Crypt Beetle possessed Shield which will nullified all of their damage.

My opponent rather decided to take inferior Tanker which is Crypt Beetle. Revealer follow in the 2nd row. It could be decisive card, because any consecutive Stun can deliver my formation into defeat. Carrion Shade in the last row seemed more as a canon fodder.

image.png

The 1st round run in slow pace. Cursed Windeku strike with minimum damage dut to Crypt Beetle thick Shield. But the Thorns ability have proven useful as it deals extra damage an destroy Crypt Beetle armor entirely. Revealer managed to cast Stun leaving Cursed Windeku stay still for the following turns. Carrion Shade make a suicide attack as it 1 damage got countered with the Thorns ability.

image.png

Revealer cast another spell into Cursed Windeku but this time it didn't trigger the Stun. Crypt Beetle missed his attack which are good thing because it would survive another round while allowing Revealer to chip away Cursed Windeku health.

image.png

Cursed Windeku finally sent down another attack that put Crypt Beetle end for good. With Revealer have to step up now, the chances for winning become slimmer for my opponent. My triple rear melee make a follow up strike right into Revealer depleting it health into 1 health remaining.

image.png

With only 1 health remaining, there's no chances for my opponent to survive the incoming attack. And so the fate is sealed.

Conclusion.gif

CONCLUSION

Melee mayhem really stir up chaos into the battle. A whole melee formation brawl, beating up one after another. But we could see how my melee cards got trapped against Crypt Beetle with its Shield, making their attack become nullified. Care must be taken when using melee cards entirely to avoid being trapped similar to this situation.
