BATTLE MAGE SECRETS : SILENCED SUMMONERS RULESET

image.png

Silenced Summoners is the ruleset which in my opinion bring back the balance of battle. Summoners have been a critical factor in any battle. Not only the brought a permanent buff to the entire formation for just few mana, but also their number are limited and cost some fortune, creating greater inequality between those well financed and not. And so here we have another view on Silenced Summoner as the rulest.

Pros & Cons

1. With summoners having no effect, bringing summoners with lowest mana cost should be the best strategy, thus spare any mana for the monster cards.
1. Several Splinter empowered very well with their respective Summoners effect, for example Earth Splinter with Obsidian magic buff. This in turn caused several players to optimize on collection which attune to such Summoners effect. In turn, without those effects, players must change strategy and rely on other cards which not within their collected list.

Best Cards To Use

There're no particular preference under this ruleset other than having Summoners with the lowest mana cost which would spare more mana to the monster cards. Unfortunately the lowest mana cost of Summoners only available for Alpha and Beta edition which is 2 mana; and for Modern the lowest is 3 mana. The effect of this ruleset would felt for much more for battle with low mana cap.

The battle has 20 mana cap, with Silenced Summoners as the rulesets; while all Splinters are made available. For my formation, I used:

PositionCard NameLevelManaHealthArmorSpeedDamage TypeDamage
SummonerTarsa24-----
1st RowLiving Lava27721Melee3
2nd RowScorch Fiend101-2Melee1
3rd RowGrenadier131-2Ranged2
4th RowLava Spider335-3Ranged1
5th RowVenari Marksrat132-1Ranged1
6th Row--------

My opponent formation:

PositionCard NameLevelManaHealthArmorSpeedDamage TypeDamage
SummonerOwster Rotwell23-----
1st RowCursed Windeku2610-3Melee2
2nd RowSilent Sha-Vi355-4Melee3
3rd RowCorpse Fiend101-2Melee1
4th RowMagi Necrosi265-4Magic2
5th Row--------
6th Row--------

I had confidence that I would strike down this battle easily, but fate have other in minds. I decided to pull an anti-melee formation by deploying Living Lava, and then put a handful of ranged cards to barrage from the rear squad. Scorch Fiend stood right behind Living Lava to delay attack in case Living Lava is wiped out. Grenadier is a powerful ranged costing only 3 mana. Next I have Lava Spider a ranged cards with mediocre health. Combined with Venari Marksrat in the last row. I expect any Sneak attack would end up boosting Lava Spider and boost the damage output. I should have bring Pyre instead Tarsa in this battle, which supposedly would spare 1 mana.

My opponent decided to bring Cursed Windeku which would be an easy target against Living Lava. What I didn't expect is a Level 3 Silent Sha-Vi stood behind Cursed Windeku where its 3 damage would be a killing blow for my formation. A Corpse Fiend semeed stood as a cannon fodder where Magi Necrosi follow next. This is a very dangerous card against my full melee and ranged formation.

image.png

The battle open with a massive blow into my formation when Silent Sha-Vi and Magi Necrosi both score a kill unto Venari Marksrat and Grenadier. Venari death is expected, but Grenadier death is a huge lost. Living Lava shoot an arrow dealing 2 damage to Cursed Windeku. Living Lava then come to strike into Cursed Windeku dealing 3 damage, but for this Living Lava has to sustain 1 damage from Cursed Windeku strike and 1 damage from Thorns.

image.png

The battle continues to 2nd round where Magi Necrosi and Silent Sha-Vi gas out 5 damage into Lava Spider. Luckily with 1 health remaining, Lava Spider and Living Lava managed to finish their job to bring down Cursed Windeku.

image.png

The 3rd round took my whole arsenal as Magi Necrosi slay down Lava Spider. And then Silent Sha-Vi deal a 2 melee damage into Living Lava. Its a shame that the Shield ability only nullifies 1 damage. And still Living Lava only managed to slice 3 damage from Silent Sha-Vi.

Speed and initiative proves to be my Achilles Heels. It need Magi Necrosi and Silent Sha-Vi to finally bring down Living Lava. With only Scorch Fiend stood alone, there's no chances for my formation to survive this battle.

Conclusion.gif

CONCLUSION

I think I put the wrong strategy and expectation for this battle. The mixed combination between melee and magic from both front and back have proved to be effective to dismantle my formation. Again speed is the essence, a good speed could bring an initiative to take control the battlefield early.
