BATTLE MAGE SECRETS : UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

Up Close And Personal is a basic ruleset which will limit the use of cards to only melee card. Melee cards have limitation of being able to attack only on first row position; except with abilities which alter their targeting. It means, abilities such as Sneak, Opportunity, and Reach become extremely important as they allow greater participation of melee cards to strike. More to is, abilities which buff or debuff melee damage will become crucial.

The ruleset allows only melee cards to be used, but doesn't precludes melee with hybrid attack type. Cards such as Quora Towershead and Agor Longtail possessed magic attack with them. These magic attack will be a great advantage if we expect the opponent to deploy a full armor formation.

The battle has the maximum 31 mana cap, with Up Close And Personal as the sole rulesets; while only Water, Earth, and Dragon Splinters are made available.

Quora Towershead have rose out as a meta and popular cards in conjunction with Lobb Lowlands; but there are also other untapped Gladius card from Earth Splinter, and that is Katrelba Gobson

I decided to go with Lobb Lowland and Katrelba Gobson which countered with the same combination by my opponent. But instead of going with anti-melee Mycelic Infantry, I decided to go anti-magic with Unicorn Mustang. Then I follow up Disintegrator which is a must-to-go card against this ruleset. After Katrelba Gobson, I go with Uraeus and Mycelic Morphoid to hold the back-line. My opponent deploy powerful arsenal, having 3 damage Mycelic Infantry and followed with 3 damage Bramble Pixie. Then there is Katrelba Gobson which accompanied by Venari Scout striking Opportunity. Last but not least are Mycelic Morphoid which unfortunately didn't have Thorns just as mine.

The battle opened by Unicorn Mustang which left Mycelic Infantry left unsheathed. Then my Katrelba Gobson having a better speeed level, strike a double kill right into Mycelic Morphoid and Venari Scout, and claim a double Bloodlust! Uraeus strike a Sneak attack over Katrelba Gobson but unable to finish her. Mycelic Infantry and Bramble Pixie strike into Unicorn Mustang, but Bramble Pixie missed its attack. Katrelba Gobson make the last act try it best to strike down Mycelic Morphoid but for no use as its already debuffed by Disintegrator and only ended up kill itself.

The tide of the battle suddenly turn to my side as the battle now change to 5 against 2. Katrelba Gobson deal a direct kill with its double blow against Bramble Pixie. Unicorn Mustang and Uraeus strike into Mycelic Infantry. Mycelic Infantry tried to make last resort to hurt Unicorn Mustang but missed its attack with no avail.

The 3rd round become the fateful end as Katrelba Gobson deal double blow to end the battle for good.

Katrelba Gobson has been a new meta which a good counter against Quora Towershead. Quora cost quite some mana, and while it has melee and magic attack; it used are a bit limited because the melee only useable on the first row. Meanwhile Katrelba Gobson is a pure Striker which focus on damage output entirely. The spared mana from using Katrelba Gobson over Quora Towershead should be useable for Tanker or other Support to help protect Katrelba.
