DAILY BATTLE JOURNAL EP.5 (20-5-23) - Dispel, The Most Underrated and Ignorable Ability

image.png

Dispel as an ability is very much similar to Fury and Deathblow. They are rarely used because their effect are rarely triggered. Although Dispel might have better chances for trigger, because its able to cancel buff effect (such as Strengthen or Inspire). But since it only affect the target being hit, the impact will felt minor. Additionally, Dispel is possessed by only a few number of cards, and for most of them, Dispel only attained at later level (currently only Goblin Firemage and Venari Spellsmith are the only Level 1 cards readily available with such ability).

But one crucial fact, Dispel, in addition to cancelling buff effect, are also able to cancel the effect to Martyr, Bloodlust, and Weapon Training. Those are some of the harshest ability effect because they are stackable by each trigger. And where you are in a slim chances to grab the victory, Dispel could come out to save your day!

WATCH BATTLE

So here I will share a single battle on how Dispel have cancelled the effect of Martyr. (https://splinterlands.com/?p=battle&id=sl_2ad3a504e309d51ee91300428ab281d3)

The battle has 40 mana cap, with Little League and Lost Legendaries ruleset, and only Earth and Death splinter are excluded from use. For my formation, I used:

PositionCard NameLevelManaHealthArmorSpeedDamage TypeDamage
SummonerTarsa44-----
1st RowAntoid Platoon34422Melee1
2nd RowMagma Troll143-2None1
3rd RowXenith Monk246-3Melee1
4th RowGoblin Firemage143-2Magic1
5th RowScavo Firebolt144-2Ranged2
6th RowClockwork Aid14171None-

My opponent formation:

PositionCard NameLevelManaHealthArmorSpeedDamage TypeDamage
SummonerKeyla Frendul24-----
1st RowVenari Marksrat233-1Ranged1
2nd RowTide Biter234-4Melee2
3rd RowCruel Sethropod33432Melee2
4th RowHardy Stonefish31211Melee1
5th RowScavo Hireling332-3None-
6th RowRiver Nymph243-3Magic1
The Little League ruleset have rendered the 40 mana cap to be useless. And therefor the maximum deployable mana will be limited to 4 mana times 7 cards. Its a tit-for-tat conditions for both formation. My formation utilize a full 28 mana cap but with lower level on each cards, while my opponent formation utilize only 21 mana cap but having 2 to 3 level for each cards.

My primary focus is to maximize my mana usage while keeping balance between melee, magic, and ranged cards. So far Antoid Platoon has been the best 4 mana Tanker because of its Shield. Magma Troll will follow behind due to its Reach. Xenith Monk follow up as the secondary Tanker. Its Heal ability should balance any incoming damage, once Antoid and Troll strike down some cards and minimize opponent firepower. Goblin Firemage and Scavo Firebolt will be my main back-row Striker. Finally I have Clockwork Aide for reason its armor should block of any Sneak or Opportunity attack; while Swiftness is essential to take blitz attack in this battle with limited health.

The opponent have quite an odd formation. It sacrificed Venari Marksrat on the front row just to get benefir on Martyr. But oddly Tide Biter which have reached take preceding position than Cruel Sethropod. Hard Stonefish seemed to be a cannon fodder in its position. Behind it, there's only Scavo and River Nymph. This formation seemed to rely its striking power entirely from Tide Biter which soon will gain +1 buff from Venari Marksrat.

Round 1 opened with an easy kill from Scavo Firebolt against Venari Marksrat. This quickly triggered Martyr against Tide Biter. Meanwhile other remaining cards stay unfazed.

image.png

Tide Biter not only now gained a dangerous 3 melee damage, but also gained 6 speed, which could be a threat with my low speed formation. Fortunately my whole formation managed to chip away half of Tide Biter remaining health. Here we saw Goblin Firemage cast its Dispel on Tide Biter and return him to its original conditions.

image.png

The opponent firepower become numbed as Antoid Platoon armor deflect 1 damage from the melee damage. Any slight extra damage from opponent will surely sent Antoid Platoon into its demise. But pity that Antoid Platoon finally have to meet its end when Cruel Sethropod step up and deal the finishing blow. This happened right after Antoid Platoon put its finishing blow into Tide Biter.

image.png

Entering Roudn 4, my superior firepower have to met against Cruel Sethropod thick health while being supported by its never-ending Repair from Scavo. Meanhile Troll Magma which in its critical health managed to survive due to lack of firepower of both Cruel Sethropod and River Nymph.

image.png

Round 5 opened by River Nymph which send Troll Magma to demise for good. But Xenith Monk and Gooblin Firemage make a counterattack and strike deep and directly into Cruel Sethropod.

image.png

The tide of the battle turned into my side as Xenith Monk put the final blow into Hardy Stonefish, which measn there's no way for River Nymph to catch on with Xenith Monk automatic Heal.

image.png

Finally with only Scavo Hireling as my opponent front-row Tanker and River Nymph stay right behind. The fate is sealed as there's no chances to make comeback for my opponent. In addition, I still kept my full arsenal behind ready to barrage.
