REGAL PERYTON : A SHADE OF LILAC

Regal Peryton Cover.png

It was the end of a long winter. Snow started to melt, glacier crumbling ever few hours. And at the 3rd day of summer, a glimpse of sunlight peek through the grey cloud. By noon, the sun emerges fully in the sky. Villager and townsfolks stare at the bright sky; for they see beyond the sunlight, a rainbow draw into the horizon. It was a good sign for a good year. A shout was heard from a boy whose hand pointed into the sky. From the rainbow comes a flock of bird. It comes closer, it's no bird, it's a winged-stag. It's a Regal Peryton! As the flap of their wings cover the sky, the sunlight permeates through, creating a shade of lilac into the plain. People stand still as they felt bestowed by the aura of tranquility and serenity.

What could we ask more from a magic card with moderate health and high speed but just cost a fair mana? Here we have Regal Peryton as the answer. It's a very versatile card, an all rounder choice against most formation. What's more, there's Obsidian as the Earth starter summoner which make Regal Peryton just more popular choice in most battle. And don't forget it's a very rare to have 5 speed traits at Level 1. So here's let's see the overall pro and cons of Regal Peryton:

Pros.png
Cons.png
1. Raw (means no specific abilities) mid-mana card with only single ability. Thus it's easy to use Regal Peryton as You don't have to give much thinking of how the card combined with other cards. This also means it safe You some times when arrange battle formation.1. In situation where mana cap are limited and You require a lot of magic damage, it's too costly to pay 5 mana for just 1 magic damage at Level 1.
2. Very high speed at only Level 1. Also added with Flying ability, Peryton have the best evasion among other cards. Let's say against non-flying with 1 speed card, Peryton will have 25% + 40% = 65% evasion rate; which means almost three times more endurance. And also it's always better to striker at the first order.
3. Moderate health and evasion mentioned above, make Peryton perfect choice as backup tanker. Melee and ranged card will find difficulty, although magic card might still chips its health slowly. Therefore its best to use Peryton at low mana battle, where there's less high damage magic card being used.

Notes: You can find the guide to read the chart above here.

From the above chart, Regal Peryton (reference No.10) started at Level 1 with exceptional health/mana compared to other Earth Splinter magic card. But the damage/mana is rather low as shown that it's only a little bit better from Centauri Magi (reference No.12). But as the level progress, Regal growth tremendously. The damage health grow and maintain position as 2nd best; while damage flew into the 2nd or 3rd best. And at this level, Peryton still have the highest speed.

Market Price Analysis

image.png

Market price for Regal Peryton have been dropping the last week, although the last 6 months have fluctuation steadily, my assessment it's between $0.25 to $0.4. As per this post was made, the price is at $0.33. Among Rare category card, the price for this card is in mid-upper price range. Meanwhile the price for gold foil is in a downtrend, with current price at $2.91. We can find the regular and gold foil price ratio is quite high at 1:9. This is a good ratio as this means the gold price in undervalued (see my previous post here where the ratio are rather lower). And considering there's a downtrend in gold foil price, in my opinion purchasing gold foil card would be a better choice currently.

Progression Analysis

image.png

Regal Peryton have a balanced growth, rotating between health, speed, and damage. At Level 3, Peryton will shift a bit into a Striker, where it got 1 damage addition but exchanged for 1 health reduction. The good side, the health will be regained each level until Level 6. The final damage addition will be gained very late at Level 8. Therefor in overall, Peryton's traits progression will keep Peryton role as a backup Tanker, rather than as a Striker.

Rulesets To Be Watched

RulesetStrategy
image.pngAim True will jeopardize all Regal Peryton speed and Flying benefit. Regal Peryton shouldn't be used with this ruleset.
image.pngThere's rarely any magic card which have Flying ability. Regal Peryton will prevail where with damage and ranged card struggling against Peryton evasion and other magic card destroyed by Earthquake
image.pngRegal Peryton would be turned upside down, from the fastest to the slowest card. At least in this ruleset, Peryton can still benefit from Flying evasion, which is better than Aim True ruleset.

Watch Battle.png

Here's one of my battle experience with the full magic card formation. Click Here for the battle link. The battle have 52 mana cap, with Unprotected and Noxious Fumes modification. For my formation, I used:

Summoner : Obsidian
1st Row : Unicorn Mustang
2nd Row : Regal Peryton
3rd Row : Mycelic Slipspawn
4th Row : Centauri Mage
5th Row : Goblin Psychic
6th Row : Queen Mycelia

My opponent formation:

Summoner : Obsidian
1st Row : Unicorn Mustang
2nd Row : Disintegrator
3rd Row : Regal Peryton
4th Row : Goblin Psychic
5th Row : Supply Runner
6th Row : Mycelic Slipspawn

With Obsidian as the summoner, it's very beneficial to have full fledge magic card. But it's also a high risk if it's to meet anti magic card. It's very common to have a head-to-head magic formation where the 1st Row is lead with Unicorn Mustang. Mustang's Void ability and high health is just perfect counter against magic card formation. Luck is on my side, since opponent couldn't benefit from Demoralize ability brought by Disintegrator. But it's also a mistake from me for bringing Queen Mycelia, since it's Protect ability is negated by the prevailing ruleset.

image.png

Round 1 run with both formation throw attack into he Slipspawn. My Slipspwan survived with 1 health, while opponent was destroyed. But this upperhand nothing, as on the next the poison effect killed my Slipspawn.

image.png

Round 2 is a mess up. Both Goblin clashed, and opponent ones managed to act first, causing the last hit to my Mustang while healing his own. By the end of Round 2, Regal Peryton has toke roles as the backup tanker.

image.png

At the start of Round 3, the poison seep through all cards. All managed to survived expect my Mycelic which exactly was left with 2 health. And thus the tide still isn't turning back, it's a 5 vs 3 now. At the end of the Round, I lost Peryton by magic attack in exchange for opponent Mustang.

image.png

One thing have made difference in the previous round. Because Centauri Mage moved to the 1st row, my Goblin managed to cast heal into Centauri. And it become clear by the start of Round 4. The fate is sealed for my opponent as all of their card are under 2 health. Once the poison blow again, only Centauri Mage managed to stood-still with its 6 health. And there I came victorious.

Conclusion.png

The above battle really shows how Peryton was easily overcome by magic attack. But during Round 3, it was actually Goblin that landed the last hit to Peryton. Unicorn Mustang and Supply Runner with their 4 speed are still unable to land their strike into Peryton! This is how Peryton a real challenge for damage and ranged card. The missed attack really delay attacks from reaching Centauri Mage. Although Peryton was lost in the 3rd Round, with Obsidian +1 damage boost, Peryton have contributed a fair damage through the last 3 rounds.
