WAVE BROOD : NAVAL PROTECTOR

Wave Brood could be considered as one of the most effective back-row Tanker you could find. Among the shortlisted cards with Taunt ability, Wave Brood are the few one to have non-melee attack, allowing it to be deployed in the back-row. But compared to Mycelic Slipspawn or Iziar (both of which are of non-melee type), Wave Brood have the highest health/mana ratio. This means Wave Brood could effectively absorb more damage and should survive over longer round.

Pros & Cons

Pros.png
Cons.png
1. Great health/mana ratio and and Close Range made Wave Brood a full-time Tanker for both front and rear position.1. Other than the health and Taunt, Wave Brood have a very limited speed and damage, which almost meaningless and almost equal to deploying a non-attack card. And more to it, Wave Brood gained almost no growth on damage and speed at all.
2. Wave Brood might have the one of the best abilities combination we ever seen. The Taunt will redirect all the magic and ranged attack; but having Return Fire, all those ranged damage will be returned, and with Void, Wave Brood will carry for longer round by dampening the redirected magic attack.2. .

Market Price Analysis.gif

Market Price Analysis

The price for both regular foil and gold foil have been in downtrend for the past 6 months. The figure chart still show both foil in the depression zone. The current regular foil is $1.08 while the gold foil is $8.42. The past 2 months have shown several brief but very significant jump in price up to 1.5x to 2.0x from the lowest price. Calculated by the total bcx needed to reached max level. The regular foil will cost around $46.00 while the gold foil will cost around $84.20. This is a great price gap and therefor enough consideration will be needed when purchasing gold foil.

But even so, purchasing this card might be a good option with the current price has steadily maintained at its lowest. We could expect another price jump in the future time.

Progression Analysis.gif

Progression Analysis

image.png

As usual, an Epic type card doesn't show much room for progression. Most of progression will be provided for new abilities. Wave Brood started with substantial amount of health, with health/mana ratio exceed most other cards. Damage and speed are very low, and with the addition of Taunt ability, it justify the dominant Tanker role of this card. The first progression bring an additional health which is very minor growth. An additional damage will be added in the 3rd level, which literally double the initial damage. At Level 4, Void will be added. Void might be less valuable considering Wave Brood already stood with surmountable health. But combined with Taunt ability, Wave Brood could be a savior for your front-row Tanker from being taken down by magic card. At least with this ability, Wave Brood could become a substitute for Tusk The Wide.

Level 5 grant an additional health, which is an even minor growth, considering the extra bcx needed to to this level. And finally the final level seemed to paid it all with Return Fire as new ability. Return Fire and Taunt seemed will be the perfect combination to fend off any incoming ranged attacks. Wave Brood could be summarized as Tanker card which effective on the back-row rather than front-row.

Rulesets To Be Watched

RulesetStrategy
image.pngUnder this ruleset, Wave Brood will lose use of its Return Fire ability.
image.pngBringing Wave Brood under this ruleset would only bring trouble to itself. The towering health of Wave Brood would only elevate the health of the opponent formation; while your formation already at handicap for paying 8 mana on Wave Brood.
image.pngWave Brood should excel under this ruleset. Both Void and Return Fire would fully be utilized with no melee cards being deployed.

WATCH BATTLE

Here's one of my battle experience with Wave Brood in my formation. Click BATTLE LINK to see how the battle run.

image.png

The battle has 99 mana cap, with Noxious Fumes ruleset, and only Fire and Death Splinter faction are excluded.

With mana cap up to 99 mana, the best strategy would be to go all out with the highest mana cards. I pick Kelya Frendul as the summoner and then followed with Diemonshark and Flying Squid, both are great as Tanker but also Striker. I followed up with Nerissa Tridawn which both strong on magic damage and supported with huge health. River Nymph followed up to cast Cleanse upon Diemonshark. I expect my opponent to deploy powerful Striker cards; so my strategy here is to redirect all those attack into Wave Brood in the last row while stalling the running rounds. Diemonshark will be saved from the poison effect, and then it will survive long enough while Wave Brood took the damage. Coastal Nymph will hold on as long as it to throw the wild arrows into any target.

My opponent take Vera Salacia as their summoner. Its a minor summoner with less useful buff/debuff. Its a waste where the battle have 99 mana cap. For the formation, my opponent seemed to follow the same pattern as my formation. A combination of Arkemis The Bear and Flying Squid. The Protect effect from Arkemis are useful but its have a more minor effect with formation already at its peak parameter. Djinn Oshannus in the 3rd row, an annoying card which overused by most players. Nerissa Tridawn followed up next. A full 4 row of Tanker are now standing in front of me. And it didn't go any better with Kulu Mastermind stand ready with 4 melee damage and Opportunity. The last row are filled with another Opportunity attack coming from Deeplurker.

image.png

The speed buff from Kelya Frendul raise my formation into a better intiatives. The whole fromation strike right into Arkemis The Bear, with 2 health remaining. Coastal Nymph shoot a randam arrow which strike into Flying Squid, strip it from its armor. I think its bad and risky strategy to out Arkemis in the front-row. Not only it has mediocre health and chances to lose Protect ability, but the 12 mana lost this card is very costly. Diemonshark survived the round although faces a huge 6 armor damage.

image.png

The poison kicks in on both formation. My formation survived entirely, with Wave Brood and River Nymph reached its lowest health. In the opposing side, my opponent lost its Arkemis, but the remaining cards stood strong as their health are left ubtouched in the 1st round. Wave Brood was taken down by Djinn Oshannus. Flying Squid step up subtituting Arkemis The Bear, but it lost momentum as Diemonshark, River Nymph, and Flying Squid combined in a blitz attack which put it into demise. Coastal Nymph launched another arrow which directly hit into Nerrisa Tridawn, dragging its health from 7 to 4. And then I though my formation will fave the onsalaught damage from Kulu Mastermind. But unexpectedly, Kulu Mastermind directed its attack into River Nymph armor, wasting its huge damage again for the 2nd time. And another surprise come in as Deeplurker failed to put an end to River Nymph with 1 health remaining.

image.png

The 2nd poison waves surge in. Only River Nymph fall down from the effect. But still the effect are massive as majority of the cards lost almost of their health. My formation gained the upper-hand with the average standing health is higher than my opponent. Diemonshark and Coastly Nymph put the killing blow into Djinn Oshannus. And then the streak continues with Flying Squid put an end into Nerissa Tridawn. It took 3 attack for my opponent to finally bring down Diemonshark this round. The battle ended with Nerrisa Tridawn put a coup into Kulu Mastermind.

image.png

By the start of the 4th round, the fate is already sealed for my opponent, because the poison wave will certainly wipe out the Kulu Mastermind and Deeplurker, both with only 2 health remaining.

Conclusion.gif

CONCLUSION

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

I think I put an effective strategy this battle. Wave Brood successfully diver the attack from Diemonshark. With Diemonshark being cleansed from poison and have to sustain melee damage, Diemonshark managed to survive until the end of 4th round. This has allowed Nerissa Tridawn and Coastal Nymph to deliver damage uninterrupted.

Do you like WAVE BROOD? Why or why not?

I really like Wave Brood for its Tanker traits. I have faced several battle where my opponent deployed Wave Brood and its very troublesome because it took more than 2 rounds to put it down. The only way to put it down is to put a brutal assault on it. The above battle shows how dangerous Kulu Mastermind and Deeplurker to strike down into Wave Brood, especially with 1 speed, there's no chance for Wave Brood to avoid away.
