There are three damage types in Splinterlands, Melee, Range and Magic. There are also corresponding rules of combat that disables the use of these. One of them is Broken Arrows, which prevents the use of any monsters with Range attack type.

With Broken Arrows, you are now forced to use either Melee or Magic. Magic damage type, is the most powerful, especially if you have a monster that gets stronger everytime she kills another.

This is what we will be focusing today, to see how powerful a Gladiator named Captain Katie, when you don't build against those types.

Franz Ruffmane is a Rare summoner from the Chaos Legion Series.

Level 2 Rare summoners allow the use of:
Level 1 Legendary monsters;
Level 2 Epic monsters;
Level 2 Rare monsters;
Level 3 Common monsters.

Franz Ruffmane is very strong and his extra armor is good in deflecting some of the Sneak attacks. In this battle, though, the more important is his Conscript ability in order to use the Gladiator, Captain Katie.

Abilities

Conscript. [Support] Allow the use of one additional Gladiator this battle.

This is very volatile and can be strong if you have strong Gladiators. If not, it's just a useless ability.

+1 Armor. [Stat Modifier] [Positive Status] All friendly monsters has their armor increased by 1.

This is the same reason why Kelya Frendul is considered strong. The extra armor can save your monsters for another turn.

Captain Katie is probably the strongest Gladiator for Life Splinter. Not only she gets a huge 3 magic damage but she also has the Snipe ability that can turn the tide of battle if your opponent aren't prepared.

At level 1, Snipe is unlocked. [Target Modifier] The attack priority of this monster's attack is changed to "The opponent's monster that is not melee and/or not on 1st position"

As I mentioned, since Captain Katie's damage type is magic, then it passes through armor. Unless your opponent has Void Shield or high health, her damage will be immense at the back row.

At level 1, Bloodlust is unlocked. [Target Modifier] The attack priority of this monster's attack is changed to "The opponent's monster that is not melee and/or not on 1st position"

Bloodlust is very strong since you can also gain the armor given by Franz Ruffmane whenever you kill a monster. This mechanic also applied to monsters without Armor initially but has been blessed with Armor via Protect ability.

At level 6, Divine Shield is unlocked. [Defense] Negates one instance of damage when this card is hit by an attack.

Since you will be using Franz Ruffmane with +1 Armor, then Divine Shield is actually strong. If you place her at the last position, an opponent's melee Sneak will be required to attack at least 3 times in order to damage her, let alone kill her.

Franz Ruffmane: Franz Ruffmane is required in order for me to bring Captain Katie to the board.

1. Albahoo Forester: Since I have an extra 2 mana, he's the best one I could find. He can be changed with literally any monsters, whoever you have available.
2. Pelacor Conjurer: A very cheap target for Weapons Training. He can also act as a tank with his high health and abilities focused on dealing with melee attackers.
3. Aves Sturgis: First boss of this build. His Weapons Training ability is very strong to produce magic damage in a battle where you need to save mana for your other picks.
4. Chaos Agent: Both used as a filler and a target for Weapons Training.
5. Thanalorian Archer: I chose him not only because of the Snipe to help Captain Katie but also for the Lookout ability. It would be really destructive if my opponents focused on Sneak build. At least, with Lookout, their damage to Captain Katie will be reduced by 1, if ever the opponent decided to go that route.
6. Captain Katie: The second boss of this build. Her Snipe and Bloodlust is really strong in order to kill the opponent's support earlier.

ᗪIᗪ YOᑌᖇ ᔕTᖇᗩTEGY ᗯOᖇKEᗪ?

Yes. Even though the opponent technically countered my build by using Void Armor, it was not enough to stop my team. This was made possible by Aves Sturgis and his minion of low mana cost monsters and Captain Katie. The use of Aves Sturgis is to increase the number of my monsters with low cost monsters in exchange of using Captain Katie and Franz Ruffmane, which took a most of the mana for this battle.

ᗯᕼᗩT ᗯIᒪᒪ YOᑌ TᖇY ᗪIᖴᖴEᖇEᑎTᒪY ᑎE᙭T TIᗰE?

None. You can change Albahoo Forester but I don't think there's anyone better for a 2 mana cost monster in Modern Format. Maybe you can exchange the position of Pelacor Conjurer and Albahoo Forester but that would hardly change anything.

Franz Ruffmane and Captain Katie in Broken Arrows Rules of Combat

? 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒐𝒓 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒏𝒐𝒕?

Yes. Captain Katie, along with Franz Ruffmane is a strong combination. They may not be as strong as Quora Towershead but if you neglect Captain Katie, she would run over your team in an instant.

Captain Katie's Snipe is really strong as it bypass the tanks, which has usually the most health and most supported monster on the board. In this battle, you can see how the opponent's Meriput Magician kept healing the Imperial Soldier and Adelade Brightwing with Scavo Hireling kept his armor up in order for him to continuously use the Void Armor ability.

If I do not have any Snipe in this battle, I would've lost because my monsters won't get past through that Imperial Soldier's solid defense. But as soon as my Snipe monsters made a dent on my opponent's strategy by killing the Adelade Brightwing and other monsters supporting Imperial Soldier, their defense started to crumble which pave the way for my win.
