Summoner's Week: Underboss Fabino
Introduction
Underboss Fabino is the second strongest summoner in the Rebellion that has Summoner Tactics after Akane. While both of his abilities are on the offensive side, it has a mix of increasing your team's firepower or put one opponent's monster on the chopping block after a few rounds.
Underboss Fabino also has the coolest name among the released Rebellion summoners. My only complaint is him not being in the Death Splinter because I feel like his name and abilities would fit in there very much.
To be honest, he's a bit difficult to handle since Earth melee is a niche strategy. You might want to check my other post to learn more about tips and strategies that are easier to digest:

is a Common summoner from the Rebellion Series.
Level 3 Common summoners allow the use of:
Level 1 Legendary monsters;
Level 2 Epic monsters;
Level 2 Rare monsters;
Level 3 Common monsters.
Underboss Fabino is good due to his abilities. Both are very useful depending on how you would use them. The Melee Earth Splinter build also gives an element of surprise as you normally build Magic damage with Obsidian on Earth Element.
+2 Melee (2): Gives 2 melee damage to any monsters on the board up to 2 monsters.
Poisoned (1): Gives poisoned status to 1 monster on the board. Poisoned opponents takes 2 damage at the start of every round.
Pros
- +2 Melee ability is Good with Double Strike abilities. Since Double Strike allows you to attack twice, this also means you get twice the value of your extra melee damage. If you can put it to two monsters with both Double Strike, you get a total value of 8 melee damage per round.
- Poisoned ability is Good when dealing with key targets. Since Cleanse ability can only be used on monsters on the first position, using this ability on monsters beyond the 1st position monster guarantee that it would die.
Cons
Healed Out |
All healing effects and abilities are disabled during this battle.: Healed Out is good with Underboss Fabino's Poisoned ability. The disabled healings allow the poison to accumulate an no technically get negated by the heals.
Are You Not Entertained? |
One extra gladiator can be used for this battle.: With this rule of combat, you can use Katrelba Gobson or Quora Towershead in combination with the extra damage.
Equalizer |
The Max Health of all monsters on the board will be equal to the Max Health of the monster with the highest max hsealth.: Damage is the highest priority in Equalizer and having extra 2 damage on two of your monsters will help a lot. |
Fog of War |
Removes the Snipe, Sneak and Opportuniy abilities for this battle.: Fog of War is not too bad but still a disadvantage. If you wanted to use the extra damage, you need a Reach or Flank ability which limits your options since Sneak and Opportunities are nto available. |
|
Keep Your Distance |
Monsters with Melee damage type cannot be used during this battle.: Keep Your Distance is a bad rule of combat since it forces you to choose the other ability, technically disabling the Summoner Tactics. |
|
Noxious Fumes |
All monsters on the board are given the poisoned status at the start of the battle. Poisoned monsters take 2 damage at the start of every round.: Same as the Keep Your Distance but for the Poisoned status. Since all your opponents are already poisoned, it wouldn't make sense to use the poisoned ability. |
Quora Towershead |
The extra damage will be good in order to secure the last hits which would increase her stats through Bloodlust ability.
Katrelba Gobson |
Same reason with Quora Towershead but with a Double Strike and Sneak abilities.
Grund |
The Double Strike doubles the potential of the increased damage from Underboss Fabino. |
This build is only usable in "Are You Not Entertained" Rule of Combat. But if you want to use it in other rules of combat, then just remove Katrelba Gobson. This is, although, the srongest lineup with Underboss Fabino.
Lineup
Underboss Fabino
While the poisoned status looks appealing, the bonus damage is by far stronger due to the availability of Double Strike in their monsters.
Croire
Although you cannot use the Weapons Training ability, you can still get value of the Flank ability. This, technically gives Reach to a melee monster which positions them in a safer position than the 1st position.
Grund
This is where you add the first +2 melee. With Double Strike, you get a total value of 4 damage instead of 2. The Flank ability also allows Grund to attack while in 2nd position giving him a better survivability.
Katrelba Gobson
This is where you add the second +2 melee. The middle is always the safest position. It protects this monster from attacks from the front and back. Same with Grund, her Double Strike ability gives more value to the extra damage while also giving her more chance to last hit her opponents, activating Bloodlust for further stat increased.
Spirit Hoarder
This is a mini core with Mycelic Slipspawn. Her Triage makes Mycelic Slipspawn live longer helping your other monsters live longer as well.
Uraeus
A low cost monster with Sneak ability. It's just a help with Katrelba Gobson.
Mycelic Slipspawn
With the help of Spirit Hoarder, its Taunt can assist you in redirecting Opportunity, Sneak and Snipe attacks. This also redirects all magic and range damage except when they have the Scattershot ability.
Giving 2 extra melee damage to a monster with Double Strike will give it a total damage of 4 and not 2 since they would attack twice per round. This is the most efficient way of usin these increased damage by the new Rebellion summoners.
Since it's Melee Mayhem rule of combat, I can also place any melee monsters on any position and it can attack. That's why Grund and Hill Giant were placed in the 2nd and 3rd positions.
I've been meaning to try this build for a long time and I was actually surprised that I lost quite a bit on it.
The reason for the loses is not because the build is weak but rather the other lineups are too strong. I always say this but I felt like the Rebellion Summoners, except for Akane, was too weak. If we compare Tarsa vs Underboss Fabino, it would be really clear why.
Underboss Fabino gives 2 melee damage to 2 monsters, so that would be a total of 4 damage. Tarsa, on the other hand, if you use 6 melees give 6 total damage. That's 2 damage more with 1 less mana cost.
While I like the idea of Summoner Tactics, I wish what they would've done is something like, "+1 damage to all monsters (you'll pick either opponent's team or yours)" or "1 poisoned monster on the board."
The other option is a double edged sword, something like, "Give +5 melee damage to 1 monster but reduce max health by 3" or "Increase max health by 5 but reduce damage by 3."
If those were the condition, I think the Rebellion summoners would receive more love.
