The Forgotten Husk of the Hunter

In this battle, I want to talk about Husk of the Hunter. This is a Common monster but do not underestimate him. At 9 mana, he brings strong range damage and useful abilities. Husk of the Hunter is not just a simple back line attacker, he also provides support to the team whenever he fights.
With 4 range damage, 3 armor, 7 health and 3 speed, his stats are balanced. He can survive some hits while still dealing good damage every round. Many common monsters feel weak at low level but this one already feels solid. When I saw Headwinds at level 3, I know this monster have serious value in Modern Ranked.

Sneak is always dangerous because it targets the last enemy monster. This means it can ignore strong tanks and target more important monsters first. It is predictable, but if enemy forget to protect their backline, it becomes destructive. In battles where the opponent isn't prepared, Sneak becomes even stronger. Combined with 4 range damage, it can quickly remove monsters without any armor.

Headwinds reduces all opponent's range attack by 1. This is very strong if your opponents uses many range monsters. If opponent uses many range monsters, their total damage can drop a lot. In Close Range or Keep Your Distance modifier, this ability shines more. Since there are limited monsters with attack reducing ability at low level, getting this at level 3 is very valuable.

Reveal removes Camouflage from enemy monsters. This is important because many Camouflage monsters hide in backline usually on the last position. With Reveal, they become targetable again. It directly counters strategies that depend on hiding key units. Usually Camouflage monsters have low health, so once revealed, they die fast.

Deflection Shroud gives adjacent monsters protection from reflect damage. This is very helpful in Counterspell or Fire & Regret battles. Even if Husk of the Hunter does not protect himself, he can support allies beside him. It is a good team ability, not just personal ability. Placing strong magic or range attackers next to him makes this ability more useful.

Battle
In this battle, I already have the advantage on the first place. Most of the opponent's monsters have 1 damage. It's funny that Husk of the Night was able to make their damage worst because there's only 2 units with 2 damage and one of them, Husk of the Night was able to reduce the range attack to 1 so that range damage just got blocked by Shield. My lineup is a bunch of 2 to 4 different damage types with a few of them having Sneak so it's a team that's really hard to deal against with. Even without the abilities on Sheng Xiao archon, my team is still a lot better than theirs.

Husk of the Hunter is not a common monster I've usually see in my battles. It may be because of the high mana or the range damage which is why he isn't popular at all. However, I see great potential with Husk of the Hunter and he is very strong, in my opinion, if you get him at least level 3. The higher he goes, the better he would but for low level battles, a Level 3 would take you to a high rank with the right team.
